Honestly, neither was your OP....  Again, how does being a sub have to do with anything at all?

And what would happen if we said that you're not allowed to get angry?

Yours,

benji

So what's the point of the question?  You know one answer is impossible, so we'll say the other one.

Or did you want us to pinch your cheeks and call you muffin?

Yours,

benji

previously, i had inquired about opening my own store for the company and was contacted by the franchaise recruiter to begin the process. i put that on hold to see if i could get in with this store. since this occured, i have continued the process and am planning on just opening up my own. with my knowledge of everything, i have high hopes of making a good go at it.

I'm not sure how far along you got with that franchise recruiter, but I'm guessing it didn't get to the point where finances were mentioned.

Fuddruckers Franchisee Requirements:
Minimum net worth - $750,000
Minimum liquid resources - $350,000

Since bus fare to Atlanta was out of your financial reach as recently as 3 weeks ago, I'm going to guess that this is as well.  I'm all for having dreams, but completely unrealistic dreams lead only to disappointment.

Ah, well that's easy then.   Why would they hire someone back that they deemed fit - for whatever reason - to fire previously?   As a manager, I'd also question someone why a person had been working the same level job for so many years without advancing.

It might be time to visit your local community college's workforce investment department to see about getting financial aid to get some marketable job skills.

well, if it had been my regular manager, who moved on to a different store, he would have hired me back because i was his best employee and i worked when nobody else would, also, it was because of the other manager not hiring enough people to assist in the job that brought on my having injured myself in the first place, unfortunately, Georgia is one of theose stupid "Right To Hire" states and a lawsuit was not allowed. i know, i checked with several lawyers

i've seen alot of companies loose alot of good people over stupid crap like this. if i ever did manage to get a store location of my own, i would fight more for my people. i think alot of managers lose sight of what is important in a work environment. witout good people, you can't have a good product or service...without that, you can't make money...which really isn't as important as making the customer happy

Well of course it's not your fault that you got fired - I'm sure it was completely and totally one sided with no responsibility on your part whatsoever. <koff>

However, that does not mean that once fired, they'd hire you back at some point down the line when new management is in place that might not remember you.

Then again, maybe the new management reads the boards on CM.

Color me a little lost.  What does the fact that you are submissive have to do with your vanilla job?

Reminds me of some advice a restaurant owner I know got from his accountant - if you want to make a million dollars in the restaurant business, you need to start out with two million dollars to invest.

Ouch.  That was heartless.  Granted, I wouldn't hire half the people off of here, including myself, but a positive attitude is generally a good start.

That having been said, that was possibly the funniest thing I have read here yet.

Yours,

benji

ok, back to basics here..."is it exceptable for a sub to display anger"

forget all the other crap...i'm sure everyone here would be more comfortable without all the details of "why"

maybe i should have kept it simple and not expressed "why"

my mistake

Again, the point is that your being sub has nothing, not one iota to do with the fact that you're pissed that they didn't hire you for a vanilla job.  101 people have answered your question in various ways already.

You're right, that was heartless.  But do I get brownie points in making the suggestion previously about how it's actually really easy to get trained in other marketable skills through one's local community college?  ;-)

I'm working on a business plan for a restaurant that will start first year at about $2 million, and max out at around $7 million.  Provided everything goes to plan (which it will not, but why be a pessimist?), 10% of that is profit, giving me $200 000 year one.  Not a bad amount, provided I don't use it to pay back all the various loans.

The investment needed for that?  Just shy of $2 million, and that's with leased property and almost immediate revenue.  I'm looking at a $1 million line of credit to keep me floating for 2 years.

In other words, don't expect to become a millionaire overnight.

Yours,

benji

No.  You get brownie points for being heartless and damn good at it.

For certain, there's a lot of money to be made if you're smart and you have the capital to invest.  As a society, we have ceased to see dining out as an "occasional treat" and people spend a LOT of money in restaurants now in lieu of eating at home.    I've been working in a particularly successful restaurant for a while now, and it's been a great experience, particularly as I'm also working on a hospitatliy management degree at the same time.  Interestingly, most of the front of the house employees are either current college students or are college graduates that have taken time off "real careers" to raise their kids, but want a part time job to help out financially. There's a lot to be said with hiring a smart workforce - they can make or break you.

For sure.  And when your servers are making a full time wage working part time hours...they'll work really hard for those hours.

That depends.  If you have normal human emotions, I'll have to beat them out of you.
