Don't worry, if Cowher resigns, you can always sign Tom Coughlin up for the job. Rumor is the Giants might make him available to other teams.

Yep, I looked at his post and thought it was crying out for green as well.

Just going through the final NFL stats and seeing what's what.

You know what's really surprising?  Devin Hester had six overall return TD's this year (two on kickoffs, three on punts, and one on a field-goal return), and he didn't lead the NFL in EITHER kickoff-return average or punt-return average.  It's very surprising.  Look at kickoff returns, for example.  Hester had 20 kickoff returns for 528 yards (26.4 average) and two touchdowns; the NFL leader, Justin Miller of the Jets (yay!), had many more kickoff returns: 46 for 1304 yards (28.3 average) and also two touchdowns.  That means when Hester isn't scoring touchdowns, he's not giving his team great returns.  Or put it this way.  Hester scored a touchdown on an amazing 10% of his kickoff returns.  But in his OTHER 18 returns, his average was somewhere around 18 yards, which isn't very good.  Miller scored touchdowns on only 4.3% of his returns, but in his OTHER 44 returns, his average was right around 25 yards, which is excellent.

Whoda thunk it?

Lawrence Maroney was another great kickoff returner, by the way.  How that fucker slipped all the way down to the Patriots on draft day, I'll never understand.

Another surprising thing: Terrell Owens led his team, which includes some talented receivers, with 85 catches for 1180 yards, and all we remember him for is drop after drop.  (I wish the official NFL stats included pass-completion percentage by RECEIVER, but they don't.)  You know what that tells me?  They overemphasized him in their offense.  But offense isn't that team's problem.  The defense stinks.

Edited to add: Can you believe the Raiders scored only 16 touchdowns all season?  No one on the team had more than three.  God damn that's a bad team.

Does anyone still think the Broncos made the wrong decision by trading for Champ Bailey?  And people wonder why the NFC sucks...  But my vote for Defensive Player of the Year is Jason Taylor.  13.5 sacks, 9 forced fumbles, two interceptions, both returned for touchdowns--at defensive end!  Amazing.  He even had 11 passes defensed!  Some cornerbacks don't get 11 passes defensed.

I'm not really a big Cowboy fan, as a matter of fact I don't even care much for NFL football at all, but I do have a huge Cowboy's fan living here and do watch almost all their games ... so I guess I kind of root for them as much as anyone.

TO fits into the STFU group with the guy from the Bengals that wears pictures of himself on his shoes, and all other guys that call out their coach, etc ... TO has had some really bad drops no question about it, and a ton of them ... but the dropped TO passes thing is overblown a good bit. A couple of game that I watched, a ball would hit him on the heal, and the announcers would call it a drop.

He was a good ballplayer, and you're right, it's tragic; I have no idea what might have sparked the incident.

Yay for the playoffs.  My team didn't make the cut, but we ruined it for a rival and made it possible for another, so it's all good.
