In the NFC SF looks like a favorite to reach the Super Bowl again. It had the good fortune of making it last year and then building on its foundation even more with few if any free agent defections.

The AFC looks like a crap-shoot to me -- and the SB team from this conference will be the one that stays healthy and gets hot at the end.

Here are the storylines I'm interested in:

(1) How will Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, aging veterans, hold up over the course of the season.

(2) Will Michael Vick be rejuvenated by Chip Kelly? In theory he could be a fantasy points monster.

(3) Will the Texans get some playoff MO-JO going -- a team that's had two strong back-to-back regular seasons.

(4) Will the Jets fire Rex Ryan?

(5) Will defenses catch up to the Pistol offenses spearheaded by SEA, SF, and WSH. Will any of those QBs be knocked out for the season running it?

(6) How will Tayvon Austin (from Baltimore) fare in the NFL?

(7) What's Ben Roethelsberger got left in the tank?

(8) Is Phillip Rivers washed up or not?

(9) How does New Orleans fare with bounty gate behind it.

(10) Can Carson Palmer rebound in AZ?

Yes, Denver is off to a hot start.

Query: Had John Harbaugh thrown the fated challenge flag and forced 4th down and a punt -- would the outcome have been different?

I am curious if Dallas Clark can regain his old form.

That monster TE in DEN is a beast. I would not want to tackle him in the open field.

I think the Broncos still would have won.

The momentum established on that drive would have been lost, but

Jacoby was out of the game.
Flacco was the key to the Ravens' game. In the playoff game, he was making incredible long passes. In this game, his passes were not connecting due to pass rush pressure. If his passes aren't caught, the Ravens have nothing.
Part of the Broncos' game plan is to use Manning and his receivers, coupled with the thin air in Denver, to wear down opposing defenses. It worked here - the Baltimore defense was winded and sucking air in the second half.

It's the REAL opening day and I just want to say:

JAY! EEE! TEE! ESS! JETS!!! JETS!!! JETS!!!

Thank you for your attention. That is all.

DarkSteven -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/8/2013 6:43:11 AM)

Jets? My sympathies.

DaddySatyr -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/8/2013 7:29:38 AM)

I'm a Noo Yawkuh. Ever since I "came of age" regarding sports (1969), I've been a METS, JETS, and Islander fan.

I can't help it. It's in the water in Brooklyn.

Your guys might be in a lot of trouble today against the Buccaneers defense.

They'd have a hard time with the Valdosta state defense.

My guys are in a lot of trouble for two reasons:

1) They let the best active defensive player in the league go, in the off-season.

2) Matt Simms isn't starting (and I was calling for him to start before Sanchez got hurt).

Regards,

Bill Parcells

If the first minute of the Steeler/Titans game is any indication of the season.... its going to be a long one.

Well, damn. They upset the Bucs. Must have been your support that did it.

MasterCaneman -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (9/8/2013 2:54:28 PM)

Two stinking points. That's all the Bills had to hold onto the finally beat the Pats. Two points. Once again, the Buffalo Bills have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Unless I'm greatly mistaken, that phrase was first coined, talking about my team ((J)ust (E)nd (T)he (S)eason).

Your team's last Hall Of Fame(r) was in the 90s? Mine was in the 70s

Actually, the Bucs were their own worst enemies and played some really filthy, dirty, football.

Ed Hockulee (or however the prick spells it) shows that he hates the JETS, every time he officiates one of their games but the Bucs' penalties were egregious.

Tampa Bay beat themselves.
