Well, he's gone. According to Fox Sports, Dallas may pursue Pete Carroll, Jeff Fisher, or Bill Cowher. I'd be very pleased with any of them.

My football guru around here is dancing with glee that Bill is gone. He makes some good arguments ... like Bill spending all the team's money and picks to 'fix' a defense that was playing pretty well before Bill got here. He thinks that a few guys could have freshened up that old defense, and the Cowboys could have used those picks to build an offensive line that actually blocks now and then. My guru thinks these giant linebackers the Cowboys have, are too slow to cover ... backs out of the backfield kill them and the only option to cover tight ends, is to use a safety. Once teams figured this out, the whole defense was toast.

I grew up in Wisconsin and have lived for 13 yrs in Chicago. It is still damn near impossible being a die hard Pack fan to root for the Bears...They are a damn good team with quality players and a solid "D" guided by a coach with integrity.

In the same breath, I really dig Manning, his talent self-deprecating sense of humor...high flying offense..."Marvelous" Marvin Harrison...Tony Dunge.

Should be a great game to just sit back and enjoy.

The game between the Pats & the Colts was indeed a nail biter (as evidenced by my nubs for fingers), LOL!

I shall be rooting for Tony Dungee's team (simply because he coached the Bucs), Go Colts!

was the best of times and worse of times the Saints lost sniff but always next year but the colts won and I have no voice lol I think we have already seen the superbowl

Just musing aloud on loss of team...loss of identity. As I've said...I grew up in Milwaukee. And we lost our baseball team in '65. then we got a KICK ASS basketball team...and we lost our center. See...there was a guy name Lew Alcindor...but its ok. He faded from sight and never amounted to much.*

I think Parcells did a good job with the guys he selected for the defense, but I'll agree the LBs are too slow in coverage; let's look at one way to get around that. San Diego has a similar 3-4 defense, with massive outside LBs, Shawn Merriman and Sean Phillips. The difference is the two inside LBs, Randall Godfrey and Donnie Edwards, are small and fast and good in coverage, both were formerly prototypical outside LBs in 4-3 schemes. Basically, they can take up a lot of slack in pass coverage while the monsters on the outside terrorize the QB.

The Oakland Raiders hired Lane Kiffin on Monday night, making the 31-year-old Southern California offensive coordinator the youngest NFL head coach in decades.
Kiffin, the son of Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, earned the job with a strong interview Monday after the Raiders failed to reach a deal last week with 32-year-old Steve Sarkisian, Kiffin's fellow assistant to Pete Carroll at USC.

Hey, the Steelers had the youngest head coach for a few hours, don't forget that. Tomlin is 34. A funny from the press conference (talking about his unmentionables reactions):

PHOENIX (AP) - Russ Grimm was hired as the Arizona Cardinals' assistant head coach and offensive line coach Tuesday, two weeks after he interviewed for the head coaching position.
Grimm, who held the same roles for the last three seasons in Pittsburgh, joins the staff of former Steelers colleague Ken Whisenhunt. Grimm and Whisenhunt were considered early favorites to succeed Bill Cowher, but the Steelers instead hired former Minnesota defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin.

"Obviously, I know Russ very well from our time together with the Steelers and adding a coach of his caliber to the staff is tremendous," Whisenhunt said in a statement.

This says it all and I agree, he is a tool:

"I was underutilized in the offense," Owens said. "A new coach can be good for the Cowboys. It's not just me. But my teammates know I could have done more. I wasn't used as a No. 1 receiver. If you don't involve a guy, that person is not going to be as productive as he can be. That's how I felt."

Tell me what you don't like about Tomlin. I'm won over. The Rooney's have made good decisions in the past 2 hirings. I'm willing to go with them on this. I wonder why Grimm didn't wow them as much as Tomlin though.

I have no feelings about Tomlin as a person, as of yet, but as far as a coach, the Vikings' defense performed in an underwhelming fashion. Ranked 8th overall, but dead last in pass defense, mediocre in scoring defense, first in run defense (a product of their horrific pass defense)..... so, I just don't see anything that makes me go "wow" about him, but I of course wasn't in the same room with him like the Rooneys were. And yes, they have a good track record with coaches .

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- San Diego defensive coordinator Wade Phillips interviewed Friday with the Dallas Cowboys about replacing retired head coach Bill Parcells.

Phillips, the former head coach at Denver and Buffalo who also had interim stints in New Orleans and Atlanta, said he had a "very encompassing talk" with Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones. Phillips has a 48-39 coaching record.
