Football FINALLY makes sense..........

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football
game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench. After
the game, he asked her how she liked the experience.

"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants and
all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were
killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then
for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was: 'Get the
quarterback! Get the quarterback!' ..and I'm like...Helloooooo? It's
only
25 cents!!!!

I was very sorry to see Ron Riveria get the ax in Chicago. When things went well it was Lovies team but when they lost it was Ron's defense. But like my Cubs, wait until next year.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/24/2007 2:09:05 PM)

At this point it's a stretch to call the Bears Lovie's team.  They can't settle the negotiation on his new contract.  I realize it's "just business."

DENVER (AP) - Broncos running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in suburban St. Louis on Saturday, less than two months after the slaying of teammate Darrent Williamshttp://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6503978?MSNHPHMA  RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) - Lamar Lundy, a member of the Fearsome Foursome defensive line for the Los Angeles Rams in the 1960s, died Saturday. He was 71.
He died after a long illness in his hometown, the Community Family Funeral Home said.  Lundy spent his entire 13-year career with the Rams (1957-69). He teamed with Merlin Olsen and Deacon Jones - both Pro Football Hall of Famers - and Roosevelt Grier to form a mighty defensive line. In 1968, the defense featuring the four set an NFL record for the fewest yards allowed during a 14-game season.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Terrell Owens needs more surgery on his injured right ring finger and might not be 100 percent until training camp.
Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips confirmed that the wide receiver needs a second procedure on the finger that required surgery last month after getting injured during the 2006 season.

Ron has always been a 3/4 guy, and Lovie is a Cover 2 guy, so it's no suprise to me that in the words of Hawk Harrelson... He Gawn!

Ron's defense made ZERO adjustments in the Superbowl, didn't you see the looks Urlacher kept shooting to the bench?

Lovie is not a micromanaging coach, he lets his coordinators do what their paid to do.

P.S. Cubs suck...Go Sox!!!! (Grew upon the south side[8D])

Sad news.

Who are are Sox? Are you trying to tell me there are two baseball teams in Chicago? That is news to me.

It looked like the Bears were playing a cover two in the Super Bowl, and the Colts were throwing underneath it the entire game.

To me, the wrong guy took the fall for the defensive problems ... then again, I really never bought in to the Bears ... they were a pretty good team that played nobody all year, and got the home field pass to the Super Bowl.

Yes the Major League, 2005 World Series Champion White Sox & the minor league team on the north side named after baby bears.

You really should get out more.

subrob1967 -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/25/2007 1:31:41 PM)

The Bears didn't stop the run, which is the 1st thing they usually do.

The Bears were within 5 points in the fourth quarter, with plenty of time to run the ball, and Ron Turner calls for a deep pass, from a Quarterback who was having problems holding onto the ball all day.

Rivera wasn't the only coach who should be let go.

yep, the Bears are the worst 14-3 team in the history of the NFL[8D]

Whis speaks out about Ben Roethlisberger not being ready to play during the past season.  It's a retrospective oopsie:

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/27/2007 2:48:11 AM)

I agree with what Whis says, katy. Ben showed lots of guts coming back, but sometimes that's not the best thing to do, and I think his season bears that out.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Jeff Garcia is disappointed he never got a contract offer from the Philadelphia Eagles after leading them to five straight wins and a playoff victory following Donovan McNabb's season-ending knee injury.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Packers quarterback Brett Favre had minor ankle surgery Monday and is expected to recover in time for offseason workouts.

Favre, who plans to return for his 17th NFL season, has been bothered for several years by a buildup of bone spurs in his left ankle. He kept putting off the procedure, and skipped out on a previously scheduled surgery Jan. 1.

          no comment....but cute, sorry...

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (2/27/2007 8:20:38 AM)

Well of course some people are not happy with Whis commenting on this stuff at this point.  And his motivation for doing so is being questioned.

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/mostread/s_494969.html

My brother and I, during the season, upon seeing how Ben struggled, spent much time discussing whether Charlie Batch should've played more during the season.  It was obvious that Ben wasn't the Ben of his first two seasons.  Of course, I firmly believe that if the qb is your guy, he's your guy, and if he's medically cleared he should play, for me it's about sending messages to the qb and the team, about leadership and confidence.  Of course I still think that Rex Grossman can be coached up to be a better qb.  At the end of the day it's all hindsight and hopefully Ben of the past will return next season.

On the eve of free agency, the Bears have locked up one of their biggest question marks — but it wasn't a player.
The Bears and head coach Lovie Smith have agreed to a new four-year extension worth an impressive $22 million. FOXSports.com's John Czarnecki reports that, according to two sources familiar with the negotiations, the Bears allowed Smith to move $2.05 million of that total into 2007 with the remaining $20 million being dispersed through the four-year extension period to 2011.

That means, with the $2.05 million applied to his original $1.45 million contract, Smith will earn $3.5 million total in 2007 in the last year of Smith's original four-year deal.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (3/1/2007 6:29:47 AM)

Good for Lovie.  He was the lowest paid head coach going into the SB, he deserves kudos.  Now if they can get Rex on track they will have a great season (or perhaps without him on track, as they've showed they can have a good season with Bad Rex).

In Pittsburgh we wait to see what happens with Joey Porter.  He's due for a bonus in early March and has one year remaining on his contract.  Will he get an extension or new contract?  What defensive scheme will be in Pittsburgh?

He gets released ! They are saying it is purely cap related. I wouldn't mind the Pats pickuing him up, but that is doubtful. < frowns>

Looks like Corey Dillon will be leaving the Patriots:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2776090

I will miss Dillon, he gave his heart and soul to this team.

Bly is going to the Broncos for Bell, which will give Denver two very dangerous CBs.

The next few weeks will be interesting, a whole lot of manuevering gonna be going on.

For all you Texan fans: Moulds was let go, and picked up by the Jaguars. < sorry, I don't have a link>

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (3/2/2007 7:17:57 AM)

Yep, Joey Porter is gone.  They are saying it's all salary cap related.  But on a message board someone said he was classless when receiving his SB ring, not sure what that's all about.  Anyway, I will miss his big mouth.  ::sob::  Yet, I am excited to see what Tomlin has planned for the Steelers.  Change can be good, that's my new mantra.   [;)]
That is an interesting trade that the Broncos are doing.
I stopped watching long ago, but Precious is hosting SNL at the end of March:
