Status: offline 		I do happen to like football. But there is a difference in liking it, and being some ridculous, obsessed uber fan. And the fact that maybemaybenot wants to keep this thread going till entenity, just to spite me, is almost a complement. But you know......you're right. No sense in continuing to associate on "this side of the fence". You are just not that important.

Curious to hear the fans' take on the first day.  I still can't get over what the Cowboys managed to pull off.  I think they have to be considered the biggest winner.  Arizona did quite well AGAIN.  Carolina did well.

My team, the Jets, made two very aggressive moves and were second-guessed for it all night long.  They're going to walk away with a four-pick draft.  But they got the two defensive players they wanted all along, and wouldn't have been able to get either one of them without trading.  Add in the fact that they also traded for a new starting running back in Thomas Jones, and that makes three players who will make an immediate impact in 2007.  Not bad.  You have to say one thing about Mangini & Co.: they've now been through 1 1/2 drafts, and haven't made a single questionable draft pick.

I'm not at all surprised by the Brady Quinn situation.  The Browns did all right to get him at #22, but anything higher would have been a mistake.  Here you have a pretty white boy from a big-name school who juiced up his numbers facing service academies for most of the year, and then laid a big egg every time he faced a real defense.  Really, did this boy have a single good game against a competitive team?  All that spells OVERRATED.  The commentators were saying all night long that Brady Quinn was the biggest loser of the draft.  What the hell?  He's still getting millions in guaranteed money, and he's by no means a sure thing for the team that drafted him.

He also was involved in an incident with a gun; it was his, bought and paid for, but it makes you scratch your head....


The handgun story is... he owns a handgun, registered and someone shot his roomate in their apartment, and he fired back in self defense. It was cleared by Dade county police. I don't really have a problem with that.
The stomping incident concerns me, but I think his leash will be very short if he pulls any boners.

If he can handle a little embarrasment (and it looks like he can, and with class), then he's the winner here.  He won't carry the high (unreal) expectations that come with being a top 5 draft pick.  If he does well he'll get his reward in his second contract.  He's getting the team he wanted.

Hi Lam. I agree that your Jets did well; Revis is probably the best CB in the draft, and 2nd rounder Harris is one of the most underated LBs. I'm not as high on the Cards, as I don't see Alan Branch becoming a run-stuffing stud, but if he gets dedicated, he has the talent to prove me wrong. Carolina did indeed do well; they may end up better off than any other team, in fact. All 4 picks so far have starter potential.

Status: offline 		I like what the Jets did. They wanted a corner and I think they picked the one that has a chance to be damn good down the road.
 
I have no idea why people even answer the phone when Jerry Jones calls ... but since I'm a Cowboy fan, it's all good.
 
I love the move for New England to pick up Randy Moss. I think it's a lot like the move Dallas made with TO last year. People need to look at these things for what they are. TO wasn't being paid ten-million a year against the cap in Dallas, but the sports media wouldn't expect anything less from him productivity wise, and considered the move a bust. When you consider that TO is the third highest paid pass catcher on the team in terms of the cap (Glenn and Witten are both ahead of him), then TO turned out to be a good value ... good productivity for the money. Well, the Patriots only have so much money to give Moss, so it's pretty clear that they will get him cheap ... probably about two-million. For that price, if they get more than nine-hundred yards, or more than twelve touchdowns, it will be a hell of a deal.
 
As far as getting a receiver for Brett Favre ... do you really want to give first round money for Bowe or Mecham? We are talking average, average, average!!! Jarrett will be the best of the lot, but it will take a few years, and Brett will be out hunting.

I dunno, Katy.... BB and Pioli might be drinking their bath water. Over on the Pats MB, most are pretty excited about the Moss aquisition. The general sentiment is everyone said the same thing about Corey Dillon and he panned out fine. I'm a wait and see. The only positive side I see is we aquired enough WR in free agency, that Moss is  expendable, should he mess up
As for Merriweather.hmmmm. I'm torn. Does one mistake make you poisen for life?  Not sure again. I'm prone to giving the kid a chance.

Status: offline 		No, Meriweather should not be considered poison for life.  That entire bench clearing brawl was bad, but I think that players get carried away with emotions and group behavior (the steroids make that stuff much worse).  With some discipline he may be fine.

I think Rodney Harrison will each the kid to channel his foot stomping aggression into taking opponent's heads off . . . within the rules of the game (with an occasional penalty), of course.
