I think it's like life in general, you need a little bit of both.  [8D]

When referring to my golf game, it's certainly better to be lucky. In the context football, it's a blend. Let's look at one somewhat memorable play: The Immaculate Reception

It was lucky for the ball to come bouncing out of the collision between whoever that heathen Raider was and Frenchy Fuqua in such a way that it was a perfectly legal play (Terry was cutting it a little fine when he tossed it in there for the carom action)

It was good to have a player with such nice hands, timing, and balance as Franco Harris to catch that ball a tad low, and run on into the endzone as the Good Lord (Chuck Noll) planned.

My only gripe is that folks should stop trying to match or top that name for a play. "The Catch"?? Yawn...it was a nice catch in the endzone, but not one that doesn't get seen every weekend....worse is "The Drive"...wtf? sounds like a trip to Walmart. About the only plus side I have for that "drive" was that it happened to the Browns.

However, in the interest of full disclosure, Bradshaw also threw 3 INT's in that game.

Too funny.  That made me laugh.

katy,

I looked it up, and it surprised me.  I had forgotten about it.  And those 3 INT's were probably why the game was so close.

Dan, not Steely Dan, just Dan  *g*

Katy....

I'm just gonna give you a compliment and say that I am impressed by a woman who likes football as much as you seem to. Tell your guy I said I think he should kickdown whatever it takes to take you to a few Steeler games; even if it means paying inflated prices to the scalpers.

If only!  I've never been to a game, would love to go.
Thanks for the kind words.  I don't get anything done on Sunday afternoons!

That's an honest shame. Like I said.... your guy needs to read this thread ; something tells me he's gotta be a fan of the game.

It's a lot of fun, but if you've watched football games on TV for years, you may have certain expectations.  Like being able to see every detail on the field--that's just not going to happen if you're there in the flesh.  But you get a perspective of the field that the TV can't duplicate.

Ah....C'mon Lam.... they have ''jumbotrons'' everywhere at the games. You can be amongst the crowd and if you're sitting in the right place you can watch the tube. [;)]

I used to go to a lot of Golden State Warrior games with a guy who never watched what was happening on the floor, but rather the big screen on the score board. He just liked to be at the game and drink beer.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/25/2006 11:03:53 PM)

Well, yeah, but I don't think watching a football game on the Jumbotron is like watching it on TV.  Well, especially not since I always rewind shit with Tivo.  Anyway, we agree, there's nothing like seeing it in person.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/26/2006 3:35:58 AM)

Don't worry, I think he reads everything that I write here.
He's into college football, big time, Penn State in particular.  It amazes me how much he knows about the coaches and players.
We are long distance, so when we have a weekend together (in the fall & winter) it's filled with football.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/27/2006 7:44:40 AM)

My Dom has pointed out to me that I have been remiss.  This summer he took me to Steeler's training camp, it must've been 98 degrees, yet everyone had on their black/gold.  I live in close promity and had never been there.  Some of the highlights:  Clark Haggans was applauded upon entering and leaving the port-a-john, and Dan Rooney was given a standing ovation from fans as he left the field in a motorized vehicle.  (I'm not making this stuff up).

Masterofmind1973 -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/28/2006 7:52:23 PM)

Ahhhhh American football. We have similar emotions (hatred, sheer joy, uber frustartion) with our sports teams in England. I am from Liverpool and my love for our football team (soccer to you guys) has no equal. Umm, sorry to my girlfriend for that but she understands!!!!

Just wanted to say that my father, on a trip to the US, was treated by friends to a day at a Miami Dolphins game and he says the experience was utterly fantastic.  He couldnt give a stuff who won etc. but said the game experience and the pre and post game atmosphere was second to none.  He was really impressed by the way you chaps make a day out of what is in effect an 80 minute game! And I must say I am envious of that experience.

With our football one can travel to a game and then pay through the nose to watch an overpaid group of europeans who cant speak the language thrash ones own side in front of their adoring fans who have never been to the city in which their team plays expcept to go the match!

Bitter, moi?

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/28/2006 10:01:25 PM)

I'll betcha whoever won wasn't the Dolphins.

It's a 60-minute game, actually.
