Devine

I still think we should start a thread on your hypothisis.  it is totally different than whether Kerry should appologize.   Besides he did it already.   LOL

So, you are saying that Clinton wasn't eligible to lead either? He wasn't even in the National Guard.

Your hating of Bush is interfering with common sense.

Clinton didn't kill 3,000 US Troops and between 300,000 and 900,000 Iraqis with his inability to lead.

I'm a TRADITIONAL CONSERVATIVE. I hate Bush for his Fiscal Irresponsibility. His INCOMPETENCE is just gravy...

That may have been what you meant, but not what you said - proves my early point that you can't make assumptions based on what you think somebody said.

Class dismissed ;-P

How do you get THERE, from HERE:

“You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well, and if you don’t you get stuck in Iraq.” (John Kerry, October 30, 2006)

Where does COLLEGE come in?

Isn't Bush's "Is Our Children Learning", an insult to Teachers everywhere?

In the 60's, if you didn't get a college deferment, you were eligible to be sent to Vietnam.  That's the inference.

I sure hope it's an insult to some of them - we sure have some suck ass teachers out there

Must be college.   Soldiers are required to have HS educations or the military won't take them

No, I don't get it. Why did YOU bring in things not supported by the quote?

To get their HS education they must have sutided, done homework and made an effort to be smart.  So what does that leave?   College

farglebargle -> RE: Should Kerry Apologize? (11/1/2006 2:11:41 PM)

I've they've already jumped the hurdles to get through High School, why wouldn't they in College.

You see, that's why the GOP's spin doesn't make sense. Kerry took the cheap shot at Bush, and misspoke.

Compared to "Is Our Children Learning?" he looks like Eisenstein...

popeye1250 -> RE: Should Kerry Apologize? (11/1/2006 2:15:33 PM)

A degree is no garauntee of success.
I know two guys, one of whom didn't even finish high school who own businesses and have people with degrees working for them.
Then there's Bill Gates.

Not everyone wants to go to College.   It isn't required.   It isn't necessary in all cases.   It doesn't meet the goals and desires of some people.   It doesn't meet the budget of everyone even with grants (I had a grand daughter that couldn't get grants because she graducated from HS with honors early, she did 11 & 12 grades together, and the family had to fund her trip to med school).   I had a soldier that all he wanted to do in life was to drive an ash truck (picking up coal ash from furnises) - no degree required there.

farglebargle -> RE: Should Kerry Apologize? (11/1/2006 2:22:04 PM)

Why did YOU add the concept of COLLEGE to Kerry's QUOTED remarks?

I *still* don't understand why you think making shit up is valid.

Archer -> RE: Should Kerry Apologize? (11/1/2006 2:24:11 PM)

How's this for the source of the inference

At a rally at Pasadena City College in California on Monday, Kerry delivered a series of one-liners that ended with one that drew as many gasps as laughs.
"Education -- if you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well," said Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat. "If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

He was addressing a group of college students.

Was it a botched joke supposed to be about Bush? I kinda doubt it considering the history of Kerry statements
Gengis Kahn statement about behaviour of troops
Terrorizing Iraqi Children in the dark of night statement
and now this one as well.
Sounds almost like you could have lifted the You end up stuck in Iraq statement from a Viet Nam Protest speach and simply change the name of the country.
Kerry is far to smart to have made such an error without thinking he could just get by with it.

Have you asked yourself that same question?  There are alot of people on here that just put together disjointed pieces of information and come to a conclusion.

The only thing that seems to make any sense is that you are just angry with him because he is disagreeing with you and your assessment of the situation.  (Go back and read Post 50 - you are getting so upset your grammar and spelling are beginning to suffer)

It's pretty obvious that neither of you are going to see eye-to-eye on this topic and in some ways you are both right and wrong; maybe it's time to move on to something else.

OK  Lets try and make this real simple.   All military are required to have a HS education.  If they have a HS education then they met all his requirements.  Thus he can not be refering to HS but must be infering, as is his audience, to college.  If he isn't infereing college then he must just be telling a lie because as stated they met all his requirements.

Or, he misread his prepared remarks and you're spinning it as you care.

OK  if that is the case, then why did he appologize?
