orfunboi -> RE: Goddess (11/7/2006 4:05:07 PM)

i think of it as a title, such as Mistress, Master, Lord etc....

The only one i know of who uses it in the real world, deserves it, in my opinion, so i don't have a problem with it at all.

If i met someone who called themselves Goddess, who i felt was the total opposite of that, i would ignore them, just like i would if she called herself anything else.

I thought this was an interesting definition of "Goddess".  You'll find it about half way down the page.

MstrssScarlet -> RE: Goddess (11/7/2006 4:47:14 PM)

The only time I've really butted heads with another domme (pro or otherwise) was with someone who gave herself the title Goddess.  I absolutely hate the term when directed at me.  I insist on Mistress or Ma'am.  Goddess is just too over the top. I certainly don't know of any who are good enough to fit the definition "someone who is qualified to teach others." (Can't remember exactly how it was worded, but that should be pretty close.) I may sometimes show someone how to handle a flogger, cane, whatever.  I certainly don't feel that this makes me a Goddess by any means.  And a young girl using it?  Humorous at best.

MstrssScarlet -> RE: Goddess (11/7/2006 4:50:23 PM)

Okay, here it is.  I was sorta close.  LOL  I'd never even heard of this definition before.

Goddess- Usually a Domme who have been trained under the "Old Guard" and who has earned the right to be worshipped and obeyed and who trains other Dom/mes, Masters, Mistresses, submissives, Switches, Tops, Bottoms and slaves.

I'd love to hear from some of the Goddesses on this thread.  [sm=smile.gif]

For Me, it is simply a way to indicate My preferred style of Domination.  I have used it for years, and anyone who knows Me knows that it is not a Female Supremacist thing (although I damn well will be the supreme one in any personal D/s or M/s relationship!  *Smile*) I am in the camp of "Do not call me Mistress, until you are Mine", and in some places I am plain old DustyGold.  Just the Goddess or Queen-like style of Domination.  So I mostly answer to "Ma'am", although I have been known to acknowledge other forms of address also, such as Madame, Milady etc. If I am on closer terms in a friendship I might be just "Dusty", and *gasp* some people (even on these boards!) know My actual given name!   Boys who are working toward a relationship with Me might also be instructed to address Me as Ms.<insert first name here>*Shrug*
That said, I am far from young, so perhaps this really doesn't apply to Me?
Well, that would be one Goddess heard from.

kc692 -> RE: Goddess (11/7/2006 6:16:21 PM)

**raises hand and does little happy dance**!! I am one of the lucky ones to call you friend, and I know your real name!!![sm=banana.gif]

I will say this though, I tend to agree with a lot on here about most that call themselves Goddesses, especially with the "on your knees **tch" attitude a lot of them have just because they consider themselves (or want you to) dominant.  I will also say, though, you ARE a Goddess, as anyone who has had the extreme good fortune to get to know you will attest to.

Awwww shucks!
Ya know...there are "goddesses" and then there are "GODDESSES"!  (Did you know I am, now 100 years old?)
I don't disagree with you though.  The meaning behind the use of that title has been terribly diluted, and one can see through it pretty quickly.  People either take it completely seriously (perhaps too seriously), or they immediately dismiss it with wrong assumptions.  I see alot of "Mistress", Maitresse", "Lady", "Miss", Ma'am", "Princess", "Queen" in user names all over the place.  Is there a reason the use of Goddess in the lifestyle is getting particular attention?
So, to all interested parties, here is a wonderful example of how you should give someone a chance, even though we often do jump to negative first impressions.  I think LordandMaster (LaM) is very funny and down to earth, and I do try My hardest with all the boys who come up with such fetishy names as "ilove2wearpanties" or "gr8cuntlicker". I, at least, will read the profile and then try to wade My way through the email!  That's because I wouldn't have written in the first place!  And My response, if I feel I want to make one, is always polite, and doesn't reference their screen name.  Time enough for that later, if all is going well.  LOL
**Wonders why no other Goddesses are replying to this thread**

Dnomyar -> RE: Goddess (11/8/2006 4:46:17 AM)

I have an unmentionable friend who calls herself princess and that is acceptable. A 19 or 20 year old princess is someone that has been spared the paddle. As for an older woman being a Goddess. Some are.

Caitriona -> RE: Goddess (11/8/2006 9:58:23 AM)

I'm with LA on this one.  It often makes me think of the "I'm not a doormat" submissives, and every person has some reason for stating such information up front.  It could be a sign of expected behavior, or any other number of things.

As a Pagan who believes in an immanent deity, I could very easily say I am Goddess and Goddess is me.  But I know that logic won't apply to every faith.

Jasmyn -> RE: Goddess (11/8/2006 10:48:29 AM)

Dnomyar what I think when I read 'Goddess' on a young woman's profile I can't help but think she is a woman of her time.  Girls are growing being told girls can do anything, Spice Girls, girl power, and an adoring audience at her feet by way of the internet, a few poses and pouts, hell yes she's sexy hot.  I was too shy, too many past hangups, to use what was naturally given back then and I admire their gumption.

A woman no longer has to be ashamed of herself ..her sexual desires, her ego, she's sexy hot and she knows it...she's got something they want ... she no longer has to roll over and play happy waiting for the man of her dreams to sweep her off her feet. ...if she thinks of herself as a 'Goddess' .. I think you go girl... but I also think... keep it real ... someone may think of you as a Goddess, others may think of you as an ass ..

I use it, I like it, it's just part of who I can be ... I love it when playing with denial and cuckolding and worship ... these are things I get off on ... and the exquisite torment this Goddess can cause when I refuse him a taste of my flesh or the exquisite adoration he feels when I allow him a moment to indulge ... never above the top of my stockings or only ever through cloth ... his tongue not worthy to ever touch me above the thighs without it ... the unobtainable one ... but you'll torture yourself just to be in her presence ...

It's hot.

I dont draw any conclusions about it at all.

It can be so many things to so many people:

some folks relate to goddess as it pertains to wiccan and paganism.

some folks see the goddess culture as a badge of female supremacy.

some folks describe themselves as goddesses to denote that they have the same body type as similar to the goddess figure of Mesopotamian times

some folks see it as achieving an excellence in what they do such as a master carpenter: sewing goddess, clay goddess.

some folks are healing are wanting to touch base with the part of them that is a strong powerful female.

Whether she declares it boldly or acknowledges it in silent humility,  in my eyes, every woman is a Goddess in some way, shape or form.

But who cares if a women call herself "Goddess".  They have their reasons - -  like the ones you stated above  [:)].  The reasons are infinite as are the definitions.  Unfortunately, depending on the nature of the person, some are going to be bothered or offended that these women call themselves a Goddess and some even place judgements on them.  Me, I say ligthen up about it.  Who cares - -  if they want to call themselves a Goddess - - let em.  I dont even give it a second thought.  Who am I to judge?  _____________Every woman is a Goddess;  some just don't know it yet. [;)]

I usually take "Goddess" in someone's name with a grain of salt until I actually start interacting with her. The designation can mean so many things to so many different people. It's a lot like submissives who see a beautiful woman on a profile picture and immediately start filling in the fantasy details they don't actually know right before they fire off that first email. And they wonder why the woman gets pissed when they've made leaps of logic that were never there in the first place.

I don't have a problem with a woman who designates herself as a goddess if that happens to be the role that she embodies within herself. It can be spiritual, it can be femdom oriented, or it can be just someone who is damn proud of herself and wants to flaunt it to the rest of the world. When it's someone who is unsure of herself, and she uses the title as a mask to hide behind, then I find myself concerned, and I discover that I'm probably not the guy for her, but I'm sure there are many out there who will fill her stable quite nicely.

I have a lot of experience in goddess worship from a number of different angles and have done extensive research on different applications of it because I am fascinated by it. I have dabbled in the past in female empowerment, even to the point of female supremacy, but having had a few years behind me, I can place that within an acceptable paradigm for myself that is more about individualism than blanket proclamations that so often seem to put the horse way before the cart. So often, when a woman calls herself a goddess, I find myself intrigued into finding out why she has designated herself so, and it's not a journey of deconstructivism I travel after that but one of understanding and seeing how that fits within something I can participate, and if not, I make no effort to push the behavior into any type of condemnation because I've learned a long time ago that there are enough problems in my own fantasy/reality paradigms that I have no room to cast doubt on someone else's.

I like your mature take. [:)]

A lot of younger women use [the phrase] "I am a Goddess." What is your impression when you see this?

When a female describes herself as a Goddess, I believe she means that she is adored for her beauty and allure; that she embraces the ideal of reaching the feminine divine within herself as much as mortally possible though virtue of mind, body and spirit. I do not think many are suggesting they have literally descended from a mantle of celestial deities.

Eloquently said.

I think it shows extreme confidence.Or in many cases, extreme overconfidence. There are a number of women on CM that I consider a Goddess, but not because of looks, or age, but the way they present themselves in their profiles, or more importantly in there posts. I think any woman I would enter into a TPE with, is  a Goddess in my eyes.

I second that.

darchChylde -> RE: Goddess (11/8/2006 3:39:29 PM)

as i am of the opinion that a deity is only as strong as the faith of its followers, i feel that the term God or Goddess is one to be bestowed upon you, not a term you use to describe yourself (unless of course, you can truly back it up with a miracle or a good smiting)

i personally call Ma'am "my Goddess" during or after an particularly intense scene or even discussion, because during those times She is my entire world and there is nothing of importance outside of Her... by the way, She has performed a few "miracles" with me

RayvenGoddess -> RE: Goddess (11/8/2006 3:56:05 PM)

Obviously, I have the word goddess in my screen name.  I am under no illusion that I am one.  I needed an interesting, eye-cathing screen name that said something about me (plus something I would remember easily).  I wanted it to connect or at least allude to the fact that I am a Pagan.  One of my old  nick-names was Raven.  RavenGoddess seemed too literal; so I mispelled it on purpose to put in an air of not taking myself too serriously.  When I talk to people I don't really know on this website (doms and subs), I address myself with the title of "Miss".  If I know them well, they know my real name.  Only after a long time of conversation would I let someone actually call me "Mistress" or "Goddess", and that would only be because that is what I have finally become to them.  It is all relative to the relationship and the situation.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Goddess (11/8/2006 4:02:40 PM)

I view it about the same as I do Mistress and such.  Its a title, and if your subs are attracted to that titling, the more power to you.  Angel used to call me Goddess when we first started speaking. If you have a sub or slave that worships the ground you wak on, or if thats what you are looking for, I supose its rather fitting.
Personally, though, I look at any profile that declares what you are rather than who you are a bit strangely.  If you think I need to be convinced, than maybe theres a reason.  It smacks of lack of confidence that someone wil know what they are upon meeting but rather they have to be informed ahead of time.

DV

NINASHARP -> RE: Goddess (11/8/2006 5:08:54 PM)

fast reply,

I usually associate the word Goddess with someone who practices Wicca, or is Wiccan. As in the "Covenant of the Goddess."
