HMMM - I usually associate the word 'goddess' to a young woman who thinks too highly of herself - and has much to learn about the lifestyle, herself, and the world.........

Vendaval -> RE: Goddess (11/8/2006 5:41:26 PM)

The more common use of the term became popular with the success of Roseanne Barr's show.
She was known as the "Domestic Goddess".
In current pop culture, the term is used to show respect or adoration.
A woman's friends or co-workers might refer to her as a "Culinary
Goddess" or a "Psychology Goddess".

It is not a term I use myself, except in prayer, ritual and research.

A lot of younger women use I am a Goddess.  What is your impression when you see this?

So what?  I am.

Seriously, though, it depends on the person saying it.  For most people, regardless of age, I smile and nod when I hear those particular words.  However, there have been a few (again regardless of age) that I could honestly agree when they make that statement.

Thanks for that link. :)

Geee..I was a Goddess and didn't even know it!

MsSonnetMarwood -> RE: Goddess (11/9/2006 5:17:34 AM)

I always find it a little disturbing when subs insist on calling me Goddess or that I am a Goddess.  It always makes me feel like they aren't able to connect with me as a human being - which if you're wanting a relationship you NEED to be able to do.   It's something about being put too much up on a pedestal.

Sissypinky -> RE: Goddess (11/9/2006 7:27:13 PM)

If she is a woman of grace and superior charm, beautiful in spirit, placid, kind and noble hearted, that to me is a goddess.  Young or old.

BlkTallFullfig -> RE: Goddess (11/9/2006 7:55:35 PM)

In my reading about the lifestyle, it hasn't as much to do with healthy egos (or unhealthy as it is suggested), as it does with a style of dominance, but you of course needn't agree with the literature or style if it doesn't suit you.

It's the same as saying "I'm a master" to anyone else.   I mean I would laugh if a man introduced himself to me that way, but I can respect him as a lifestyler who is a master to another.   M

CandleInTheWind -> RE: Goddess (11/9/2006 8:38:46 PM)

My first impression, with a very young woman,  is how much more tribute she expects to receive with the title, Goddess.

Honestly, I don't see the title Goddess as being any more arrogant than the title of Master, Mistress, Lord, Lady, Sir, Ma'am or any other honourific that dominants feel comfortable being called.

orfunboi -> RE: Goddess (11/10/2006 4:07:00 AM)

i really doubt your emails have much to do with this thread, you only joined CM a couple weeks ago and will still be recieving the emails from being new. As far as them calling you Goddess, you state in your profile how much you are against this title and my guess is they are just trying to push your buttons. Maybe even get you to post about it, who knows why people email the kinda crap they do. Just ignore the nasties and chat with the others.

spankmepink11 -> RE: Goddess (11/10/2006 4:35:30 AM)

At  Thanksgiving, my friends and family refer to me as the "pie goddess" just because it's not unusual for me to make 15-20 pies  (from scratch...no canned or premade  stuff) to accomodate the orders of my friends and family.   The also know that they must "tribute" me with a side dish in return for a few pies.   [;)]

LaTigresse -> RE: Goddess (11/10/2006 6:59:12 AM)

Ohhhhhhhh, a pie goddess! Wanna come to my house for turkey day???

I thought this was an interesting definition of "Goddess".  You'll find it about half way down the page.

Ahhh but it is easy to see how easily someone could have taken this out of context & applied it to a lifestyle context.

The Old Guard referred to is not about the commonly known Old Guard (gay leathermen) It was about Old Guard Paganism & further research shows that the term of Old Guard Paganism was started as a joke. Two links to the same story.

Just another supported case of how things can be taken out of context & catch on just because it was found on the internet.

How do you know that is what she is refering to?

orfunboi -> RE: Goddess (11/10/2006 3:08:40 PM)

ok, this whole quote thing confused me, so i did a little research on the whole matter. It seems the quote on the Albany page was a mistake made by her slave. It was missed in editing and has been there ever since. It is very old. The definition should have read...

The term Goddess comes from Hindu, African, Native American and Indian cultures, meaning a diety to be worshiped, adored and guided by.

In my opinion, it totally fits.

Actually, I didn't take anything out of context.  In fact, I provided a link to the entire article so that the specific definition could be viewed in its entirety, in context.

In the words of orfunboi, how is it that you know what the author meant when she wrote it?

LotusSong -> RE: Goddess (11/10/2006 3:45:53 PM)

How often do we see a man using God as his title.  (now they may act like it, but they aren't as embolden to use it).

Sissypinky -> RE: Goddess (11/10/2006 4:22:09 PM)

We see  plenty of men using God as their title Ma'am .  Search under "Lord".  In regards to young women for most of them its quite simply a style of domination.  Amazons, Mistress, Goddess, Nursemaid, MommyDom, etc...  are various forms of domination.  The title Goddess has been around for a long time in our community. You take it to literally.
