Personally, it does not bother me one bit. Some were trained to speak in a certain way when using the written word.

/shrug

It's their choice.

i used "slash speak" as a search phrase and pulled up 18 threads, the most recent in May of this year.

The bottom line is S/some P/pl use it and O/others seem to have an irrational dislike for it.

i happen to use it and like it.  Feel free to block my posts, but honestly, i don't think there's one original comment to be made on the subject, and N/no O/one ever changes T/their mind, as far as i can tell.

I can't stand it.  Whenever people type like that it's a bunch of stutter nonsense.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: D/does A/anyone E/else T/think T/this? (11/9/2006 8:19:03 PM)

To each their own.  Slash typing is no different than any other method of communication, its how certain peple are comfortable expressing their thoughts.  Its not significantly different than speaking in third person, capitalizing some names and not others or even using gender neutral pronouns all the time.  Its not like its every word, its only those refering to people, and those that cold be either Dominant or submissive in nature.  Live and let type.

Legman1 -> RE: D/does A/anyone E/else T/think T/this? (11/9/2006 8:20:02 PM)

It's not about grammar. It's an exercise in self-discipline which many subs need and a way to honour the D/s.
Where's the tolerance.

mnottertail -> RE: D/does A/anyone E/else T/think T/this? (11/9/2006 8:22:18 PM)

It ain't so much a matter of tolerance, when I get my dick sucked by abcs, I dont wanna hear big bird or mister rogers, K?

I don't think a dislike of it is "irrational" at all.  It is improper grammar.  How is disliking it "irrational?"

LOL

And what does it really prove?

i met a 'dom' once that this was the only way he ever wrote.  Turned out he wasn't dom at all and learned it in some online group or chatrooom (not sure which).

It is C/cyber C/crap  [:-]

juliaoceania -> RE: D/does A/anyone E/else T/think T/this? (11/9/2006 8:34:56 PM)

I do not have an opinion one way or another, I do not do it, no one demands that I do it.

MzTlaz -> RE: D/does A/anyone E/else T/think T/this? (11/9/2006 8:37:43 PM)

I think if someone gets really upset over me NOT doing the slashy thing it tells me that I probably wouldn't get along with them.  I can understand the cyber players using it in the chat rooms because, I guess, it's the only way to show respect in that medium....but I don't think any real time Dominant I ever met and then corresponded with has used the slashy stuff.....well, not the ones I respect anyway...lol!

MMshappysub -> RE: D/does A/anyone E/else T/think T/this? (11/9/2006 8:40:34 PM)

This all goes back to showing your Dominant respect. Always putting Him first and not yourself.

Many of us hold a quite rational dislike for it, thanks.

lunamor -> RE: D/does A/anyone E/else T/think T/this? (11/9/2006 8:50:26 PM)

The slash is useful and meaningful when I refer to s/he (instead of he/she), but that's got nothing to do with domination or submission.

Although my slave uses the slash when he sends me messages, I personally don't think it 'honours' anything: still, I indulge him because using it is significant to him.

I doubt it "goes back" to any time before there were chatrooms, and I think any dom who needs something as trivial as a capitalized letter to feel respected is downright petty.
