That's just the Catholic Church subliminally damning you.

Is that what it is, Aileen? Having never been into a Catholic church, I didn't recognize the sensation.

LaM - when you go into production with a talking Borat doll, let me knkow, I want one!

Aileen, yes, I think it was kind of subliminal.
Listen to it again,... I heard; "AILEEN, TOTAL ORGASM DENIAL FOR YOU TONIGHT, YOU NAUGHTY GIRL!"

And right after that; "AILEEN, ROPES TIGHT ENOUGH?"

Going way out on a limb here.......

Isn't Jesus CHRIST the reason for CHRISTmas???

Actually the natal mass (Christ Mass) was assigned arbitrarily to Dec 25 by the Catholic Church, as the actual date of his birth was and is unknown. Dec 25 was the date of the Solstice, until corrections in the calendar moved it to the 21st (where the longest night normally). The Christ Mass was supposed to be a somber ceremony to replace the pagan revels of Midwinter or Solstice but the feasting, gifting and general merriment could not be suppressed. The holiday we celebrate now is a fusion, with the new, Christian veneer applied to the time honoured midwinter party.

Or in short; NO.

A Calif. co. offered to donate 4,000 "Talking Jesus Dolls" to the Marines' "Toys for Tots" program but was rebuffed on religious grounds.
The Marines spokesman said; "We don't want to have these dolls get into the hands of Muslim or Jewish children mistakenly." (paraphrase)
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Muslims or Jews celebrate "Christmas."

Well now, that was pretty stupid to turn them down.

No freaking imagination.

All they had to do is accept the dolls, put small tie-die headbands on them, stick a peace sign on the robes, and rename them 60's Hippie Stoned On Acid dolls.

I am fully aware of that. But the Christmas that we know today is the celebration of the birth of Christ...regardless of the date....Christ being the operative word. Granted there are some who don't celebrate the day in memory of that event....but the vast majority of people aren't putting up Solstice trees or getting Solstice presents....or even for that matter know what the Solstice is.

They did say mistakenly so their not going to give the toys to the Jewish or Muslim kids.

Also giving them talk Jesus would be an insult to them It would be like giving a christian family that is deeply into religion a copy of the Quarm ( however it is spelt ) as the christian family would think they trying to spread their faith onto them.

Who’s this WE, Erin?

The vast majority of my friends celebrate solstice but, being respectful of other's religious beliefs, we also recognise Christmas and Hanukkah (all the more reason to celebrate). We are happy to share the season, why must Christians insist on monopolising it? By all means join the fun but please don’t piss in the eggnog.

Popeye, do you have a link please? I can’t find the article.

You are correct, Jews and Muslims do not celbrate Christmas. However, note that they do celebrate there own winter holidays which include gifts/toys for children.

It's a tough call for the Marine Corp to make but is understanable. They're only showing what the power of giving can do without forcing a religion or belief on anyone. When the Toys for Tots program gives toys to children in poverty, there are no strings attached. The action is to brighten the kids day and not to question faith.

Also know that Toys for Tots is not just a Christmas thing. It's also yearly doing what it can for natural disasters, house fires, etc...  Christmas and the rest of the holiday season is only a Big Month but not the only month in which people can donate.

I like the Dominatrix Barbie doll myself. She could have the Jesus doll with a collar and leash around his neck and if she could talk she'd say "Who's your Daddy now?"

I wonder what a talking Jesus doll would do in a Toy Story movie? Could he heal the other toys? Would Sid crusify him? Crusifictin seems to be something I think alot of toy beating bullies would do.

I know Jewish and Muslim people with whom I exchange Christmas gifts every year.

An alternative meaning to the holiday, which is mirrored in the story of Jesus's birth (the "Light of the World") is the concept of dwelling in darkness during this time of year and faith in the eventual return of "the light". It's all good, IMHO.

The Muslim faith accepts the New Testament as a Holy Book along with the Torah and the Koran.
If they'd have donated the damn Moses or Esther dolls there would be no controversy
!

As of 2001, the religious demographics of the U.S. are:

79.5% Christian
5.2% "Other"
15.0% Atheist.

I suspect the "we" Erin is talking about is that 79%.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States#Religious_affiliation

However an ARIS study showed that the 2001 number is 77%.
http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_prac2.htm

Hmm, although PEW research shows that number to be 82%
http://www.adherents.com/rel_USA.html

So I think it's safe to say when we say "we" celebrate Christmas as a holiday which symbolizes the birth of Christ, we are referring to the majority of the U.S. populace.

Some of us do not view Christmas as a "Jesus" holiday because the Catholics adopted the winter solstice as the "Birthday of Jesus". The reason why? To stop other cultures from worpshipping in a pagan type way. Jesus was most likely born between october and november. I have no problem with people using this as a Christian holiday, but most of the symbols are pagan, and I celebrate it as a pagan holiday that has nothing to do with Jesus...

And if I had gotten one of these Jesus dolls I would have trashed it, how offensive it is to put someone as sage as Jesus in an action figure... it really is ridiculous.

I am really surprised that atheists weigh in at 15%, I never would've guessed it that high.

I was surprised that only 5% consider themselves "other", I guess I must know each one personally

Seriously, just because people identify themselves as Christian does not mean they are the type of Christian that believes all other religions suck. I called myself a Christian for years because I really dig what Jesus said and did, but I do not call myself that anymore. I think that percentage would be far lower if you asked people what church they belonged to.

Hello A/all,

Talking dolls can be perverted to the dark side.  I once knew a guy who was the voice of the Talking Mickey Mouse doll, as well as a sound expert.

Instead of payment, he got about 50 of these dolls from Uncle Walt.

Then he downloaded words of evil into their little Mickey heads.

(pull the string, Mickey's voice comes out)

"Fuck off, kids, Im in charge now."

(pull)

"Minnie gives good head"

(pull)

"Ive got cancer!"

(pull)

"Uncle Walts dead!"

...

It was too funny.

Imagine the perversions one could subject Talking Jesus to?

Sinergy
