Does riding motorcycles and shooting handguns make me a geek?

Diane

farglebargle -> RE: Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/1/2007 3:44:46 PM)

No, that's a Biker.

Building motorcycles and shooting off black powder cannon is geeky.

fergus -> RE: Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/1/2007 5:08:20 PM)

I have to go with fargle.  Do you ride a harley and like shooting mordern arms?  probably not geeky.

Did you re-build an indian and do WWI reenactments?  much more geeky ;)

Myself, I am a flintlock geek :)  Built my own .54 cal hawken, and have a nice long rifle.  Cap and ball pistols as well.

But Diane, don't feel left out.  We geeks love everyone ... ESPECIALLY those who love, or want to BE geeky :D

silly people! geeks use swords, long bows, and flails not firearms!

fergus -> RE: Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/1/2007 5:16:50 PM)

ho ho, you have never fired a matchlock.  Would be more successful to wait til the person charges and beat them with it as if it were a large club (less dangerous to yourself that way).

Everquest: Anguished geared 75 cleric
World of Warcraft: 69 Troll Priest, 60 NE Hunter, 60 NE druid, 58 Human Mage (need I go on?)

I'm a systems analyst.  I sit in front of the computer to work, and I do it again when I get home to do email, write, read, chat and play games.

I have 3 old hard drives on my desk as we speak /wink

I read fantasy fiction exclusively and I am especially fond of anything dealing with King Arthur and that era.

How'd I do?

fergus -> RE: Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/1/2007 6:51:00 PM)

Not too bad, DEFFINATLEY a geek.  More specifically in the 'nerd' catagory :)

But, how can you read exclusively fantasy, and ALSO Arthurian tales?  The latter is mythology, not fantasy.

Vendaval -> RE: Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/1/2007 6:51:53 PM)

I remember reading a great quote by Steven Spielberg, I believe,
about being the skinny kid with glasses getting his face pushed into
the water fountain at school.  [8|]

My taste in books and films is definately for the fantasy, science fiction
and spy thrillers.  Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR, C.S. Lewis books,
Masquerade, AD&D, animae, hentai, Renaissance Faires, The
Rocky Horror Picture Show, comic books, La Femme Nikita,
"24", film noir and so on all figure prominently in my life.

fergus -> RE: Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/1/2007 6:56:38 PM)

Vendaval, you already know that you are one of my favorite geeky kinkster ;)

Or is that kinky geekster?

Dude... totally. That ticked me off!

SirRober -> RE: Return of the son of Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/1/2007 9:28:46 PM)

Is I a geek or not???

I work in the IT field doing network monitoring, and I create chain maille... usually armor for a ren-faire and  floggers, or what-not???

Lorelei115 -> RE: Return of the son of Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/1/2007 9:52:21 PM)

Yup, I'd say you qualify. [:D]

etherealtonic -> RE: Return of the son of Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/1/2007 9:59:51 PM)

I'm a network administrator by profession and frequently host and attend LAN parties.
I use Linux,Windows, and FreeBSD.
I got moved into college courses during my sophomore year because I was ahead of my highschool's computer courses.
I spend my free time reading about microbiology and biochemistry (outside of what is already more than a substantial amount of studying).
I have a major addiction to anime (not porn or anything, just regular anime series)
I have watched EVERY episode of Scrubs in order, in a period of about 4 days.
I have various computer books cluttering my desk, not because I'm in a class, but because I intend on reading them for entertainment.
I have various electronical components sitting on my desk for no apparent reason.
And, because I play guitar and feel I am not where I should be skill-wise, I spend time doing full setups on my collection.
I've frequently argued the difference between geek and nerd.

I also use an old, dead stick of RAM as a fob on my keyring.

Wow. I feel pretty geeky now.

Feh, join the 17th Century already.

Well... "geeks" are circus performers who typically perform stunts like biting the heads off chickens.

"Dorks" are whale penises.

And "nerds" are a tasty crunchy candy.

Look it up. *laugh*

Hee hee. I love you for saying that. Each time my sister refers to me using any of the words above I quote (darn near verbatim) those definitions!

I am involved with (to varying degrees):

Table Top RPGs
MMORPGs
Video Games
Sci-Fi/Fantasy television
Sci-Fi/Fantasy movies
Sci-Fi/Fantasy books
Jigsaw Puzzles
Online Computer Games
PC Games
RenFaire
Magic: The Gathering card game
Hentai is Love and Anime is Foreplay

Hmm... how about... I collect things like... ohhh, knives. Shiny, pretty fantasy looking knives. Seven so far... and I'm naming them as I get to know them more. Gwendolyn is my favorite thus far.

Lastly, I read dictionaries, thesauruses and the Taber's Medical Dictionary for fun! My mother has a copy of Taber's that was bound upside down and backwards. And the anomaly thrills me to no end.

Does the membership card come in the mail? And do Lorelei and I get our own islands? [:D]

Aubre -> RE: Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/2/2007 8:30:19 AM)

I learned how to read at age 3 and started school a year early.
I'm a Unix sysasmin with Solaris and Linux systems. I've been using Linux since 1994. I configured my first X server by hand (i.e. manually editing the config file).
I submitted a driver change to the Linux kernel (depreciated a long time ago) to make my sound card work.
I my favorite "word processor" is vi.
I used to play DnD and an old RPG called Traveller, and a pen and paper Star Wars game.
I played Everquest and now I play WoW, I have a level 70 Night Elf Druid.
I have a Wii. I've read all the Harry Potter, Beauty Series among others. I watch Bones and House.
I play Sudoku on my cell phone.

farglebargle -> RE: Geeky Kinksters Unite! (3/2/2007 8:40:21 AM)

Traveller isn't old. If Traveller is old, that means I'm old.

Oh, shit.

Depends on who you talk to /wink.

I consider fantasy anything that's in the sci-fi/fantasy section of the book store and isn't related to the future and rocket ships lol.  I've found all or most of my Arthurian legend books in that section.

Personally, I don't think it's either, I think of it as history and biography *smile*
