Excellent quartet, MM!

mnottertail -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/19/2010 2:08:14 PM)

dc, glad you stopped by, take it for me, you know I am not good at coming up with this.

Tim, I would have had it right away, but not knowing mulberries, I took if for cocao, which admittedly I know nothing about in its natural state as well.

Musicmystery -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/19/2010 2:12:23 PM)

Thanks, dc.

Ron, I figured people would probably right-click on the photo for the tagged name. It's tough to obfuscate in the information age!

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/19/2010 2:20:31 PM)

NEW QUARTET (on behalf of ron):

E
U
I
O

Bonus points if you get the odd one out.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/19/2010 2:37:35 PM)

A for the Americas
E for Europe
I for the Indian Sub-Continent
O for Oceania
U for Australia as in Down-Under

Lance LIKES geographical answers even if they're wrong. LOL!

Musicmystery -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/19/2010 2:43:59 PM)

Isn't Australia considered part of Oceania?

And what happened to Asia and Antarctica?

Or Africa?

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/20/2010 5:37:20 AM)

I'm off to work, then might meet some friends. So it may be a while before I'm back.

Meantime, a hint: Look down.

Musicmystery -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/20/2010 6:33:47 AM)

Well, eiou is the Zeneize word for oil....

But EIOU stands for Extended Unknown Input Observer.

E is the odd one one out--an UIO is an observer which estimates the exact state of a linear system with unknown input disturbance.

If you ask me to explain it, I'm fucked. Something to do with systems and algorithms.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/20/2010 7:22:17 AM)

A is Abode of mortals (as opposed to Heaven or  Hell)
E is for Earth
I is In between Heaven and Hell
O is Orb (maybe O is Over Hell)
U is Under Heaven

Musicmystery -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/20/2010 10:17:20 AM)

Well, OK! That makes far more sense.

[:D]

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/20/2010 3:12:59 PM)

This is embarrassingly simple.

Big hint: Q and W are in the same group.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/20/2010 5:08:03 PM)

All on the top line of the keyboard?

E is all alone thus it be the odd one out.

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/20/2010 5:30:25 PM)

You got it, SL4! Your turn to post.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/20/2010 5:55:52 PM)

Grrrrreat Tony the tiger sez:

Measure for Measure
The Merry Wives of Windsor
Two Gentlemen of Verona
Troilus and Cressida

All Shakespeare's plays but what obvious theme links them???

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/22/2010 7:11:50 AM)

They are all "problem plays."  Neither comedy nor tragedy, they (with a few others) are sometimes called the "dark comedies."

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/22/2010 7:26:21 AM)

I'll accept this answer as correct Lance

My sources tell me they are all comedies however I accept some may be open to dispute by academics and so are referred to as 'problem plays'.

Well done your turn.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/22/2010 2:49:22 PM)

My info was from Wikipedia entry for "Measure to Measure."

And here we go with a unique quartet:

Helen Hayes
Rita Moreno
Audrey Hepburn
Whoopi Goldberg

Yes, you might find two more names that you think could be on this list, but there IS something that makes this a totally unique quartet.

mnottertail -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/22/2010 2:50:44 PM)

all played nuns?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (1/22/2010 2:52:27 PM)

Well, lots more than 6 women have played nuns, so no, that's not even close........
