That first name was way too tempting for my copy of Google.  It just reached out from its cage, snatched it, swallowed it, and spit out "women directors/producers of silent films."

Women pioneers in developing film-making equipment.  For example: Guy-Blaché first used a sound boom - a mike on a fishing rod.

(The) F Troop
F. (Scott) Fitzgerald

That's all I got. Hope it's right.  I've had a quartet burning a hole in my pocket for a couple of days now.

There's really supposed to be 5 on the list, but in keeping with the theme of quartets, I've removed the 4th one and then scrambled them.  Hehehehe, evil, evil grin.

I was looking for the answer of four of the first five.

If you need a hint--something Lance said in his last post gave me the idea for the quartet.

Well, Walt Whitman wrote O Captain, My Captain, so i thought maybe they all wrote music, films, or plays with "Captain" in them.  But i can't find any.

So back to the research.

You are very close.

We are indeed talking about a poem, a play, a film, and music. And the "Captain" is what you're looking for.

Oh, of course - O Captain! My Captain! was about Abraham Lincoln!

Aaron Copland - A Lioncoln Portrait for narrator and orchestra
D. W. Griffith - Abraham Lincoln a sound film
Walt Whitman - O Captain! My Captain! a poem
Robert E. Sherwood - Abe Lincoln in Illinois
a play
