CelticPrince -> what is a slave???? (11/25/2006 1:11:28 PM)

I have been on this path for over two decades and have experienced it all, errrrr except for being a submissive,

Strolling throught profiles when I have time, I see a huge number of submissives that call themselves "slaves"

To those I ask if you might define in print, as long as you refer to yourselves as such,, just what is a slave compared to a submissive, collared or not.

You answers are going to differ from each person, you are aware of that are you not? [8D]

FOR MYSELF and MYSELF only, I did not call myself a slave until I became Masters property. I just have the personal belief ( please notice I said that this was  a personal belief only ) that one is not a slave unless they are owned by another. You also have to understand that even though I do not consider myself Gorean, I do hold with many of their views in regards to slaves/submissives.

In that same train of thought, In my own mind, there is a world of difference between submissives and slaves; all of which has been covered before, and of which I am unwilling to dredge back up.

Just my own view on things though.

Kalira,

Thanks for your input and I do expect some variation, but there should be some commonality running throught the descriptions.

And hopefully it may cause some to rethink their self description of being a "salve"

If I were to be any type of salve in the world, I guess I would choose bag balm.

Ahh, but see, this is where the line will be drawn. The question that many are going to raise to this is " Why should we re-think our description of ourself if we are happy with it already"

It really comes down to what makes each person happy in the end; not what others really think about them.

Lakira,

while there is some foundation to your thoughts, the difference between a expected profile by a Dom/Domme may well cause a premature disconnect.

~fast reply....

~before i enjoyed my very first date...i already knew that i desired to naturally defer to the men in my life...i already knew that i longed to have someone i could serve, and obey, and someone who would not feel intimidated to correct me...so i just went with what felt right for me within my intimate relationships ever since...and i naturally attracted dominant men...when i was first introduced to this life-style...i really didn't fit, and still don't fit any particilar label, but slave is the closest one i feel drawn to use, if i must.  So for myself, the slave in me, is one who feels deeply satisfied when her man is pleased and content with the entire person she is.  ~smile

I'm surprised that no one has whipped out his Webster's yet.

LadyClaudiaVan -> RE: what is a slave???? (11/25/2006 4:18:16 PM)

submissives can negotiate terms and conditions
slaves can not (for the most part)

Very true, however, it still holds. A good example is a person who has been a slave in the past, and is once again looking for that type of relationship. So, they put 'slave' in their profile. However, they meet a prospective partner who has differing ideas of what 'slave' is; and comes to the conclusion that the person they are talking to is not really a slave.

The same could be said the other way around for those who list submissive.

All relationships are based on the idividuals involved; not on how a group perceives them to be.

Fast reply.. In My view and in short. A slave has less limitations in her servitude, no hesitation in her service. While the two are parrallel in many ways a slave will go the extra mile in making sure the Dominant is pleased. Personally, I view slaves as the highest form of submission, point blank. Adding further and in My opinion, a slave is a slave with or without a Master, she always retains a slaves heart, it's who and what she is.

slavejali -> RE: what is a slave???? (11/25/2006 5:51:51 PM)

A slave is someone who is incacapable of making their own decisions, walks around like a robot, has so little self confidence that you hardly hear a squeak out of them, lacks original thought, passion, intelligence and creativity...oh yeah and is basically a doormat [:)]

Wait...I'm a slave....ummm ...Hold on a sec, I am going to have to rethink this (thats a pretty hard thing to do considering it's hard for me to think by myself...)

Seriously though, I think its generally a preference for terms. Sure I love submission, I love really giving over to my owner/partner/whatever in a seriously intense way..and just perhaps its because I am so full of myself ..err I mean...am so confident and at home with myself that I can.

Basically I think a slave is a submissive, cause thats exactly what a slave is doing "submitting". After that thought the terms slave or submissive can only mean preference, in reality.

Here's a little something for your head, Katie:
1972 I believe:

What is a youth;
impetuous fire?
what is a maid;
Ice and desire......
yet the world lives on.........................

I don't know if I would agree with you. I am identify as a submissive (though I suppose I might identify as a slave if my dominant were more interested in having a slave) but I feel I often go the extra for him. I always make sure his favorite treats are around, by which I mean, beer, candy and the ingredients to his favorite dishes. Whenever he thinks something is sexy, I snap it up. For our anniversary I bought him a sword and then looked all over until I found someone who would engrave it. I don't do chores on my knees but he is almost always on my mind and a good deal of what I do is to make him happy.

Perhaps you have another idea of what going the extra mile is?

mnottertail -> RE: what is a slave???? (11/25/2006 6:11:12 PM)

A rose will bloom,
it then will fade;
so does a yoot,
so do-o-o-oes the fairest maid...........
