i haven't heard that argument before. While perhaps healthier than being a lardass like me, "heroin chic" models that makes you want to play their ribs like a xylophone aren't especially healthy either. i prefer the theory that conceptions of beauty follow that which is unusual, or that which is associated with the rich and idle. When the commoners had to scrap for food, and worked in the fields all day, the beauties were soft, pale, and plump. When food was readily available, and the average person worked inside all day, the ideal of beauty became tan and lean, because they had the spare time to tan and work out. Since the average woman is significantly shorter than the average male, most models are freakishly tall. It's all about the perverse drive to get what you can't have.

Very much so. There are several forgers who weren't recognized at the time they were working, thinking they were faking the period they were trying to paint and a few decades after their death being recognized because the forgers couldn't escape the fashionable prejudices of the their time.

I think that shows how imbred fashion can be so someone not trying to escape their contemporary time period, I would imagine, would accentuated the prejudices of their time even more.

The women themselves are a rare breed.. The breasts themselves are generally in the proper position. Unless she's laying on her back, then they tend to have a bit of distance between them I suppose.

Have you ever worked in the fields all day?  A rubenesque woman did not have to work in the field and could sit around all day long eating cake, never get any color in her skin from the sun, doing nothing but putting on weight.  Hence she was considered beautiful by the people of her time.

Status: offline 		No, he means "cochonnerie," even if he doesn't know how to spell it; it's French and should be in any online French dictionary, and should be in OED too.

(Edited to add: It's not in OED.  Anyway, it's derived from the word "cochon," meaning "pig," and refers to any grotesque, obscene, pig-like thing or action.  It's like the Spanish word "porqueria," or the German word "Schweinerei.")

I was thinking along the same lines as whoever just asked about pickles when I said "cornichonery."

OTOH, as I'm coming up on 50, it's a tad shameful to be so fond of physical attributes - after all, my own body seems to have turned traitor.  My waistline bugs me a lot - it's passing the 34" mark, and I really don't like that much.  Time for situps?  I cringe at the thought, but - it looks to be that time.

lol, just my odd habit of adlib. derived from the french word for pig: "cochon" ...add "ery" as english suffix indicating "in the state of being like or acting as".
sigh, will i need to draw you guys a picture?

...I mean, with words like "qat" and "raj" and even "aa" popping up in Websters, i had to stop taking them seriously and making my own, multi-lingual derivatives. "avant-garde" involves being ahead of one's time as often as not, and how do you think these dictionary dorks come up with new words anyway? I needed a tongue-in-cheek word to give a backhanded inference, and made one that had, I can now see, the desired effect. I'm sure Webster's and OED will catch up in a year or 2, and then you will see it listed under "C" and realize, maybe even after I'm dead, that I really was a visionary.

damn skeptics.

Peut etre on pourrait verifier avec Chloelicious? Elle s'habite en Belge, et la Francais est sa langue maternelle.

Mais, ma preference est pour les mots Anglais - nous utilisons deja beaucoup des mots Francais, et si nous regardons nos amis Allemands et leur langue, ils ont deja un mot que nous pourrions adapter - Schweinerei, ou en Anglais adapte "swinery", qui se fonctionnerait bien a decrire les idees de "filthy" parce qu'on l'utilisait le mot pour un lieu ou on cultive les cochons, et aussi "dirty trick".
