THEIR,
THE'RE,

YOUR
and
YOU'RE

Of the above, THE'RE is not even a word ! it is a conjunction of THEY ARE

Typos can happen, misspellings can happen, but good gawd ! this one irks me EVERYWHERE I GO !

please make a note of it. [:D]

I am too, I will go back and edit posts if I see that I made a spelling error.
Although, I don't pretend to have perfect grammar (or even perfect spelling), but I really do have an excuse. I have a mental disability that prevent me from properly learning language. The way I see it though, if I do this well with a mental disablity no one else has any excuse [:D]

Well . . . I'm only concerned with my own grammer and spelling. Everyone else is on their own. If I had wanted to be an English teacher I would have become one.

However, it does stick out like a sore thumb for me. But knowing I'm not perfect and have my own moments (the brain is always ahead of the fingers) . . . I keep my mouth shut.

It took some time but i've learned to accept (not except) everyone's grammar and spelling mistakes. As long as i can read the post or chat then no problem.[:)]

Conjunction: joining two sentences by and, by or or.
Contraction: Joining two words to make one word did not = didn't

I'm a self-admitted grammar nazi and homonym errors make drive me 'round the bend.

I'm also a big believer in the truism that every spelling/grammar flame contains a spelling/grammar error. Your post would be a case in point. The're ?

I admit that I don't run my posts through spell check, because in general my spelling is pretty good. However, I do have a tendency to type too fast at times, and I can certainly understand how typos happen. An honest mistake is one thing, but the inability to punctuate a simple paragraph makes me nuts. Doesn't *anyone* remember where a semi-colon goes?

Hilarious book! It's on my list to add to my permanent collection because the copy I read was part of a bookring so I had to pass it on. This book is a grammar pedant's dream!

PS: People often write to me and ask whether or not I'm an intellectual. After I correct their spelling and grammar mistakes I write back and say "Yes, I am." Or, as Plato might say, "Yes, he is."

I try to do my very best when communicating. I endeavor to spell everything correctly. I try to punctuate correctly.

I've been typing long enough that I very rarely need to spell check a word.

I tend to go over my post once before hitting send and once after my reply has been posted.

I immediately correct any typo I spot. I proofread in my head when reading other people's replies/posts. I do become annoyed when people use "u" as the word you... "ur" in place of your or you're. I don't think typing "gr8" is indicative of intelligence, but I also understand that it may just be a matter of being lazy.

I don't go out of my way to correct someone in a public forum, such as these boards. But if someone approaches me and wants to talk one-on-one I expect them to type while adhering to certain criteria. I will not spend my time seething with frustration, trying to decipher what a person may be trying to say when I could be speaking to someone willing to put his/her best foot forward.

To each his/her own -- unless that person wishes for me to offer them my time and patience.

isn't the *contraction* of 'they' and 'are' done like this: "they're"???
