It just amazes me that so many people don't take the time to make sure their profiles look like they are SOMEWHAT edgumacated <wink>; if someone presents him/herself looking like they cannot express themselves in their native language (was that grammatically correct???) who would want to initiate a conversation with them? Of course I'm only talking about English speaking people, the errors the furrners make is usually quite charming LMAO... oops, "foreigners"!
cello

...And sometimes we leave errors there to give you perfectionists a rise, LOL; really though, some days I see a small error, I make an effort and refuse to obsess about it, and try to leave it if it's not a big deal...
I'm kidding for the most part, but there is an obvious error in my profile (misspelled girLfriend), but last time I updated it, it was a week before it showed up again, so I decided I can live with the misspelled word. As for correct punctuation, fohgettabout it... Best I hope for is to type as fast as I'm thinking so that the reader gets what passed through my brain, because more than once I've read my post a day later, and said "say what?", and editted.. If it isn't here, it must be there, unfortunately there are a few exceptions. And it must be their problem if it should be assigned to THE Idiot Rescue team. As we all know that they are, well, they're simply beyond hope.

I learned this silly little ditty when I was young and it springs to mind once in while, might help, might hinder... do with it what you will.

Woman, without her, man is a savage!
Woman, without her man, is a savage!

Oh, and as far as the poll goes, I am lazy, I am blonde, and I am a theatre major, not a theater major... there is a difference [:)].

Craftsman -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (6/22/2005 8:58:36 PM)

In reference to your post about grammer.

The last option should be spelled "Zieg Heil." From a German you are learning this. Attention pay and accordingly in life proceed!!

Akt-churly, aye did like dis pole. Ewer spelling wuz berry berry off-full, butt aye liked it anaconda playing wiff wurds is phun. <grin>

Lordandmaster -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (6/22/2005 9:57:04 PM)

If you think "Sieg Heil" is spelled "Zieg Heil" (which would mean something like "Hail the goat" in dialect), then you can't be German.

Gauge -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (6/22/2005 11:04:28 PM)

I guess what irritates me the most is when people throw their hands up in the air and say, "Who cares about proper language usage?"

I am no saint, I am sure that I make errors but I do not profess to be an English Major either. I can tolerate some things when it comes to grammar and spelling if it is clear that someone is really trying and not just being a lazy twit.

I will use Internet shorthand when chatting e.g. BRB, or LOL but I will do my best to spell out everything else the way it is supposed to be done. It is a huge turn-off when I see that someone uses u or 2 for you and to.

So, while I am not a grammar or spelling Nazi I would say that I am careful not to make a complete ass out of myself.

k8 -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (7/1/2005 2:27:27 PM)

The one thing I just can't stand is when people T/type L/like T/this. Misspellings, bad grammar, AOL shorthand, l33t sp34k...I can deal with any of that, but N/not T/this!

Bbare45 -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (7/11/2005 3:38:39 PM)

I agree with Darth. When I read a post and the writer uses there for they're or their, it drives me batso.

Must have something to do with being raised by an English teacher for a Mom and a Marine DI / Debate coach for a Dad.

Though I do enjoy twisting my Mother a bit with my phrase "Used to be I couldn't spell gradiate, now I are one"

Get's me 'The LOOK' every time!

zaynab -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (7/23/2005 5:25:46 PM)

"i" before "e", except after "c"
but i cant remember that when i spell words like wierd... weird... ?

IronBear -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (7/26/2005 7:53:30 AM)

I used to really upset a number of my US friends with some of my spelling until I reminded them that depending on which computer I’m using, they’re set to either UK English OR Australian English and thus the “errors” which people were having friendly hissy-fits about were in fact correct. Generally I compose posts in word and then cut and post. Knowing I have a very minor form of dyslexia, which presents itself when posting into wee box thingies, made me start using word, besides which I can then use the Dragon voice recognition system which I use for my studies and thesis.

I still love using terms like “Edumication” and “Tanfastic” [8|][:-][sm=lol.gif]

Lordandmaster -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (7/26/2005 9:40:57 AM)

I meant to say, you're right, that has to be the stupidest spelling rule. Just look at all the exceptions I can think of right off the top of my head:

sleigh
neigh
weigh (and words like weight, weighing, etc.)
rein
reign
skein
deign
weir
weird
heinous
protein
lutein (and there has to be dozens of -ein words)
feisty
either
neither

And that's not counting words like reinvent, reinvest, etc.

Edited to add: Just thought of yet another one--caffeine.

Edited to add again: And another--heist.

zaynab -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (7/30/2005 1:07:46 PM)

Lordandmaster, the words you wrote in that list do follow that rule.. "i" before "e" except after "c".... none of those words have a "c" before the vowels.. are you messing with my head? lol

zaynab -> RE: SPELLING AND GRAMMMARRRRRR Forum Nazis ! (7/30/2005 1:09:47 PM)

what about accenting a particular word in a sentence.... can change the entire meaning of the sentence....

"I" think you're right.

I "think" you're right.

I think "you're" right.
