Yup, it's official.

Lam & Level, 7-5
caitlyn, 6-6 (Lam leads 2-1 head-to-head)

caitlyn -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/28/2006 9:17:53 PM)

I'm OK with missing the Rutgers game, bacause Aileen will be happy.

Looks like you were right about the Big East teams. Hopefully they will get better bowl opponents next season, because they seem to rate it. Based on how Rutgers killed K-State, I would have loved to see them play a better Big-12 team like Nebraska or Texas, because they are just too strong for a middle of the pack team from other conferences.

Of course, we ALL know that next year's BCS sleeper, will be RICE!!!

Lordandmaster -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/28/2006 10:42:38 PM)

I agree, K-State was a pointless matchup for them.  I think they would have killed Nebraska too, because Nebraska's pass defense sucks and Teel is a dangerous quarterback.  Texas would have been more of a challenge, but frankly I think they would have handily beaten any team in the Big 12 other than Oklahoma.

(I still can't get over the crappy bowl that Texas got this year.)

FOUR games up for grabs tomorrow:

Champs Sports: Level and caitlyn have Maryland, Lam has Purdue
Sun: Lam and caitlyn have Oregon State, Level has Missouri
Insight: Level and caitlyn have Texas Tech, Lam has Minnesota
Liberty: Lam and caitlyn have South Carolina, Level has Houston [Level, WTF???  You're a Texas homer, arencha.]

We all have Clemson over Kentucky.

A lot of that would depend on how healthy Colt McCoy and the Texas defensive backs are. Remember, when they were healthy Texas crushed Oklahoma, with Adrian Peterson, on a neutral field.

Texas just fell prey to a worn down and battered team, that had too many tough road games in a short stretch. That game they lost to K-State was the third road game in four weeks, all against bowl team. They had to play it with a quaterback that hadn't taken a snap in a meaningful game, and two freshman defensive backs.

All in all though, I think Texas got the bowl game they played themselves down to ... but on the flip side, the Alamo bowl is a pretty cool bowl game. San Antonio is a fun place.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/29/2006 10:15:20 AM)

I don't go for the "it was a tough stretch in the schedule" business.  Oklahoma, since we're talking about them, had a stretch where they played FOUR road games in FIVE weeks, and they won all five games.  (Two were against ranked opponents, namely Missouri and Texas A&M, and two others were against Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, which aren't patsies either.)

But any way you slice it, Texas deserves a more meaningful bowl game.  They're going to clobber Iowa.  Iowa doesn't even deserve a bowl game at all.

Oh, and yes, their win over Oklahoma was, in retrospect, the high-water mark of their season, but I'm pretty sure that if they played again right now, Oklahoma would win, even without Adrian Peterson.  Of course, I've picked a lot of games wrong over the last week and a half...

Well, under NO condition should you EVER feel sorry for Texas. I like them, because I live with an ex-Texas player ... but to be honest, they generally make me sick.

We play them every year and every year they kick the shit out of us. When we host ... we don't get to play them in our humble, but lovable stadium. We play in the Texan's stadium, so that 50K of their orange nutcase fans can attend.

Oh, and it gets worse. They are already loaded, and have another loaded class coming in ... but Mack Brown is planting the seeds for another championship. There is an ex-Texas quarterback named Todd Dodge that is/was the head coach at Southlake Carroll High School. They've won something like four straight state championships and I think they are considered the top High School team in the country. Last season they killed my old High School, Katy High, in the championship. Anyway, coach Dodge will be taking over as the new coach at North Texas. He has a son named Riley that's a Junior at Southlake and is just the best High School quarterback on Earth. He's track athlete fast and threw for 3K yards+ this season. Imagine a slightly smaller, MUCH faster Vince Young, that can throw the ball 70 yards at 17 years old. The big guy I live with knows Todd Dodge very, very well ... and guess where Riley Dodge is planning on going to college at the end of next season?

Looks like beating Rice 56-7 isn't good enough. Why not try for 70. [;)][;)]

Fuckin' Longhorns!

Lordandmaster -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/29/2006 1:27:05 PM)

And it looks like we're all going to be wrong about that...  The pigskin sure does bounce funny.

Yeah, and I'm starting to suck wind with the Missouri vs. Oregon State game too. Still time though. I think I caused bad karma for myself with my previous post. Chase Daniel, the Missouri quarterback, was actually the guy in front of Riley Dodge at Southlake Carroll ... so now he's showing off. [;)]

happypervert -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/29/2006 4:16:27 PM)

I think everyone misjudged Clemson (and I would have too) because they started the season really well, but they sure ended crappy losing to Maryland and Steve Superior. What I saw of that game today they self-destructed with turnovers and couldn't make a kick.

I just saw a funny play for Houston -- they were around the 10 yard line getting ready to score, and had a bad snap going back about 20 yards when the QB kicked it out of bounds, getting a penalty.

I saw a funny stat -- of the 12 bowl games before today, only 3 finished closer than 17 points. No blow outs today . . . yet.

happypervert -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/29/2006 9:19:37 PM)

WOW! The Gophers were up 35-7 over Texas Tech at halftime, and managed to lose in overtime. I wonder if that is a record for the greatest choke job in bowl history?

Lordandmaster -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/29/2006 10:48:46 PM)

It is, and I lost that fucking game.  (I kinda think overtime games shouldn't count, because college overtime is a crapshoot, but I'll take the loss like a man...)

The standings:

caitlyn, 10-7 (caitlyn leads Lam 3-2 head-to-head)
Level & Lam, 9-8

Caitlyn went 4-1 today!

Edited to add:
Only one game up for grabs tomorrow:

Chick-fil-A (I remember when this puppy used to be the Peach Bowl):
Lam and Level have Virginia Tech, caitlyn has Georgia.

We all picked Texas over Iowa and BC over Navy.

caitlyn -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/30/2006 10:35:46 AM)

Yeah, wouldn't you know that I missed the Tech'ies comeback. I went on a date with this guy that turned out to be a complete bore ... right wing, major money guy that really wanted you to know it ... and of all things, when I suggested we go to a club and have some drinks, he looked right at me with those law abiding eyes, and said, "Aren't you only twenty?"

I like college football better than any or the ten or so guys I've dated in the last two or three months. [;)]

It is clear they aren't normal guys -- they are girlie men.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/30/2006 7:48:32 PM)

I hope I don't get snookered by ANOTHER fucking second-half meltdown.  Virginia Tech was winning 21-3 at halftime, and now Georgia has scored 21 unanswered points in the second half.

Edited to add: Amazing.  Losing games like this is starting to get a little annoying.  Did Sean Glennon just have the worst fourth quarter in bowl history?  (Four turnovers, right?)

The updated standings:

caitlyn, 13-7 (leads Lam 4-2 head-to-head)
Lam & Level, 11-9

The only game tomorrow is up for grabs:
caitlyn has Nevada, Lam & Level have Miami

happypervert -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/30/2006 10:17:42 PM)

That was cool! Georgia pulled that onside kick in the third quarter, and VT fell apart after that.

I just hope thug U can lose in similarly dramatic fashion!

Lordandmaster -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/31/2006 1:49:32 AM)

This game is a perfect example of why points allowed is not a good indicator of a defense's quality.  I know cloudboy doesn't follow this thread, so I'm talking to the dark, but according to points allowed, you'd have to say VT's defense sucked last night--and it didn't.  The OFFENSE sucked.

caitlyn -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/31/2006 11:13:29 AM)

The forecast is 18 to 22 degrees at kickoff in the game tonight in Boise. It could even snow. I like Nevada's chances.

Just a quick thank you, Lam, for keeping track of this. Circumstances have kept me from following the games like I normally do, but I'm following the Collarme Three saga [:)].

Lordandmaster -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (12/31/2006 12:51:34 PM)

What's irritating about all this is that I've lost several games that I'd pick the same way AGAIN.  Anyway, it's all in fun.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NCAA Bowl Schedule (1/1/2007 1:58:40 AM)

A much-needed win for the L&L boys.
