Level - You're welcome, do keep us posted here, I'll be checking just to make sure you're doing ok, the links have me paranoid...I'm just saying it bluntly since I know that probably wasn't obvious given my calm, cool reaction Lol  Hope it's quick & painless a recovery as possible.  Thanks too for your kind words, will do my best not to let it spoil the plans that took what feels like forever to finally make [:D]

marieT - God I hope they're not in NJ [:(]  I think with our relatively cold climate, we're ok, aparently these spiders only live in warm places (this is my current understanding, hope to be right [:o])

Najackc - Thanks a bunch for all the details, I do feel settled now and will go ahead with the plans.  We will be staying in a resort in Qld. and doing some of the outdoorsy adventures but I believe they're all in areas that are only psuedo-natural and made for tourists...will double check that now for sure lol  You've definitely calmed the fears a great deal, so myself and my entire clan who are coming with thank you immensely.  Not sure I could personally live with knowing I had one of those in *my* luggage, but a few travelling with us are brave at heart and I'll be happy to have them foster the little bastards for you and get them shipped without ever seeing them if we happen across any, though I'll be praying to disappoint you, sorry [X(] lol  Thanks again [:D]

Hey,
I havent read the whole thread yet, and I really hope you dont have any problems with the bite. I can tell you though that if gets all yucky the scars, oh they are not pretty. My scar is prolly 2" around right at the base of my back. It was soo great while it was healing. Eww. I can go into details if you want, but I will refrain. It still grosses me out. I never figured my bottom would literally rot. hehe.. Ok so maybe I only amuse myself.

hoping it stays well
Lee

Thank you, Lee. So far, so good. A nurse told me they had an unmentionable there a couple weeks ago, and she had one right where she sat, poor thing. I keep that in mind and try to be grateful. [:)]

grins.... hmmmm so you will be staying at a resort in Queensland huh? Then you have nothing at all to worry about girlfriend....... apart from the sharks, sting rays, blue bottles possibly, there are some cool spiders over there, lizards - they just look weird, they won't bite you I don't think, bats if you go in any caves maybe, ummm what else... smiles, just wear a full body armour and you should be fine!!!!

grins helpfully

Thank you, wanders. I do understand the ick factor. [:D]

Now you're talking! lol.....

Why? Those things creep me out more than tarantulas.

Level,

I didnt read the whole thread but last year the Owner was bit by a brown recluse. A couple days later I had to drive him to the er , he had a raging fever and they took quite a big chunk out of his upper arm (where he was bit) a couple inches deep. He still has a scar but it looks like he was shot in the arm.

Please seek medical treatment if you haven't already.

Level -> RE: Brown recluse spider (12/8/2006 4:22:15 PM)

They stay outside, for one thing lol, and they seem to keep to themselves. But yeah, if you make the corner and come face to face with one (or a dozen), they can make your ass clench.

I've seen the doctor, and I think all is going to be well, kisshou [;)].  I'm going to take my bandage off shortly, and give it a good cleaning.

kisshou -> RE: Brown recluse spider (12/8/2006 4:28:56 PM)

Level,

I am really glad you are doing okay because just reading your post bought back tremendous fear and anxiety for me.

The Owner was bitten at work , now they call him spiderman  hehehe

I don't see the problem with banana spiders... check out http://www.shadygrovetrainingcenter.com/Wildlife/bannana_spider_photo_gallery.htm%00 ... they have kinda nice mating habits [:D]. And they're smallish.

Tarantulas on the other hand.... *shudders* I had one on the wall stalking my shadow as I was on the loo... no other bathroom around for a half-hour drive... not fun. It took me weeks before I'd stop looking all around a bathroom. Mind you, that's not as bad as waking up with one on your chest. That baby was BIG! Seriously big. When I threw him (her?) onto the floor and woke everyone up, the guy who squashed him had a size 14 shoe (and the body to match). The shoe didn't cover the spider (width wise) - and it took about 5 whacks to kill it. Freaky nasty buggers. I still wouldn't mind one for a pet, but he'd be in a cage, not running loose around my house. *grins* Now what kink of weirdo does that make me?

sweetnurseBBW -> RE: Brown recluse spider (12/8/2006 6:27:39 PM)

We have those big wolf spiders here. Those things make me feel faint. I hate all spiders though.

LeMis -> RE: Brown recluse spider (12/8/2006 10:15:06 PM)

Hope you're doing well...  [:)]

hmmmm.... are you going to post pics of the spider bite?  [;)]

Alas, but no, I was only kidding.  You cannot really smuggle wildlife out of Australia.  At least not without getting into serious trouble.  So don't do that.  *sigh*  No inland taipans or tiger snakes in my Christmas stocking this year.

timeoutgurlie -> RE: Brown recluse spider (12/9/2006 6:05:43 AM)

wanders - Thanks for the comfort then a quick slap of paranoia lol [:D]

Najak - I actually have an acquaintance who works at a local airport, and was told, much to my horror, that for the right price there are those whol *will* accomodate.  He refused because he avlues his job and playing byt the rules, but was told later by a coworker that the spiders *had* gone through.  Made my skin crawl for days [:(]  But hopefully that person was like yourself and wanted them strictly for "good" purposes.  In all honesty I was hoping to never see any, so your stocking would stay empty, but the thought was there lol [:D]

All spiders must die in my world. [:D]

I watched " Once Upon A Time In Mexio" yesterday.  In this movie, Johnny Depp plays a largely psychotic CIA agent.  At one point, he tells Antonia Banderas that the pork he is eating is the best he has ever had, and when lunch is finished he is going to go in and shoot the cook.  He claims he does this to restore the balance.

The sentence about all spiders dying reminds me of his matter of fact explanation of why the chef must die.

Do you have any idea how overrun the world would be with bugs and crawly things if we got rid of spiders?

I catch them in a glass, take them outside, and set them free to slaughter bugs without having to fear boot heels, vacuum cleaners, or pine sol.

Seems to me that spiders are here to do a job, and it is not my place to take that away from them.

Just me, etc.

Sinergy
