I watched this great video on how we can use visualization and positive thinking in order to call what we want into existence. In other words it was about how we are all creators of our universe and everything in our lives, either good or bad. I was wondering what others think of this concept. It was an awesome video, put on by mainstream folks, and I am going to put a link in for it, but be warned.. it does cost $4.95, it was well worth it to me, but others may not want to buy it...

Still the concepts are things that most of us are familiar with, and that major religious systems of the world have touched on. I thought it would make a wonderful discussion, because I think that even atheists would acknowledge that our thoughts have intense power, and that since we are energy, and energy never dies but only changes, that this has some merit when looking at why prayer works, why psychic phenomena exists, and how we create our world.

Negative energy attracts negative things, positive energy attracts positive things... what do you all think?

I am a firm believer of this, as is my Master.  He uses positive visualization tools all the time with me.  Rather, he has me use it.  I have lot of thoughts on this subject but I'm multitasking too much at the moment to think them through clearly enough.  Lately though I have been more and more aware of energy - mine and that of those people and things around me.

Only $4.95 huh?  Such a bargain.  And likely the set of CD's is a great investment for only $59.95....  OK, enough of my opinions on the self-help industry.

I believe our minds are incredibly powerful in ways the sciences are presently unable to measure.  I believe there are ways that energy can be focused to produce remarkable results.  You still have to do the hard, everyday, crap work of making it happen.

     Attitude is everything.

To shorten things here, just say "Close your eyes, think happy thoughts, see yourself advance, and walk in that direction. After all, we are what we make ourselves."

Positive meditaion is free. It sucks that you had to pay $5.00 for it but atleast you're not speding thousnads of dollars on sessions in which others have been known to do.

i was told this years upon years ago.  Negative thinking brings negative energy and negative energy brings negative things....  its all a chain reaction.

Thoughts become words that become actions and so on.

aye and we used to joke about " letters words sentences"  Not that i remember what the meaning behind it is anymore.

This is a cool site, thanks!

BTW I do not think one needs to watch this video, I was just referencing it in regard to how people think the power of positive thinking has influenced their lives...

... Hopefully there will be more response about the message instead of the vehicle it was transported in.

juliaoceania, I agree with you, my mother taught me that all my life (from what I recall)....I have been know to be an extreme realist to the point where I become doubtful of certain results....yet when I have continued and persevered, by keeping a positive atittude, it has worked.

Totally agree, I just thought you would like the site as well since it expands on that. I've always been a big believer in positive thinking or/and visualization, that what we put out to the universe returns to us in a karmatic way. Thus when negative energy is given off it seems to attract negativity and negative people just as postive does.

I think everyone had encountered someone that just seems to exude a negative energy. They aren't pleasant to be around. Whereas being around a very positive person will bring about an aura of good feeling or contentment.

Most successful people when asked what they attributed their success to will reply with some form of it being the belief in themselves and the belief that they could achieve what they set out to do regardless of whatever odds were against them or how impossible it seemed.

Thoughts become things...

I've spent my entire life, even as a child, doing things everyone else told me couldn't be done.  I guess I'm one of those lucky few that believe in myself to fairly extreme levels.

My Mom, a single parent, subscribed to Psychology Today, had every self help book on the planet and I remember as a 9 year old (having read most of them, since she was so insistent that this stuff could change your life) thinking "I don't need books like 'I'm okay, you're a kumquat' to realize if I want something bad enough I have more than enough capacity".

As an adult, years later I thought "maybe I missed something, maybe I should grab a half dozen of those types of books and read them again".

I didn't miss anything.

Now, that said, I also discovered that, again as a child, I'd always remembered having to listen to all kinds of people, kids my age who were fearful of success, adults who wanted to temper my enthusiasm for a given thing so as not to end up being let down, tell me "it can't be done", or as the professor always said in Speed Racer..."We'll nevvvvver maaaaaaake it".

What I realized was, I was already doing as a kid what every self help book essentially does, which is telling you over and over again "don't listen to people insistent on your failure...do your own thing, keep plugging along, stumble, fall, scratch your knees and get up and try again...because you DO have the capacity and those who want to see you fail, don't want to see you fail so you'll be less than you can be...rather, so you'll be on par with them...so THEY'LL feel better about THEIR lack of success".

I'm told that Tony Robbins stuff is excellent (I'm sure there's others equally as good), but most of that 70's and early 80's crap is pretty much that....crap.

You can't go wrong with trying to be a most positive thinker.  You can get many free books on this
subject from the public library.

LTRsub, perhaps your mother raised you to be this way because she believed it herself? My father would read books like the ones that you listed, in addition to one called Self Image Psychology, that I read as a young teen. I applied these things to basketball, losing weight... later I applied it to getting a degree. My dad was a great believer of rearing kids to feel good about themselves, how lucky was I in an era where most fathers were afraid to show any emotion at all to have him?

This video covers some of those concepts, but it was more metaphysical than that in some ways. It talked about these things on a spiritual level. Most pop psyche books do not do that, the author tries to take credit.

Now that being said it does not take spending 5 bucks to have more gratitude, pay attention to what we are feeling and how that is related to what we are thinking, and to positively visualize the world we live in...

I think the most important concept this video covered was the law of attraction, and how we create our reality with our thoughts, and that is not exactly "Im ok you're ok"....smiles. It is a powerful concept to know we are powerful enough to imagine anything we want and have the ability within to achieve it, it is only our own beliefs that stand in the way.

I heard a saying once, " You are what you think", that's pretty much in line with what you're talking about on one level.

On another level, I think one negative to the "Power of positive thinking teachings" is, when someone begins to understand that their thoughts have power, they can condemn themselves to being more tightly bound to cause and effect. Their own desires become the ties that bind them to a consciousness of separation and division.

Think about this:

A planet where everyone believes in the power of positive thinking to manifest their desires. Each person putting energy behind every little desire they have. The power of thought goes out to create the world around each one. Can you even imagine the chaos that would create? Actually, when I come to think about it, thats exactly where the world is at now....and most people have no idea that their desires behind their thoughts are creating all kindsa things, imagine if they became conscious of the fact and really put some energy behind them...whoa...eeeeeeeeeeeeeek!

When someone begins to understand that thoughts have power, it can be a very fun and exciting time, puts you in demi-god status...but I think at that time you also come to a point of choice..."How will you direct and channel these thoughts?"

Two choices
1. Towards the fulfillment of personal ego and in so doing become just a stronger force that is chasing after their desires and adding to the already established problem here.

2. Putting a rein on your thoughts and directing them towards self-realisation on a more profound level. In other words, by surrendering your personal desires and being willing to become a channel for the universe to act through you. Happy to be a servant more than a god.

It's hard to write about these concepts in a few lines...

Anyways to sum it up. "In my mind" (lol)....its wonderful to point your mind in a positive direction, its not so wonderful to use the mind to "manifest the desires of your ego".

That's one of those feel-good pop-psycho sayings that people like to repeat, but I've never understood what it's supposed to mean.  I think I'm a superhero with the power to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Hello A/all,

From what I have read, the brain is a neural net processor which connects disparate neurons using an electrochemical pathway.  When certain thoughts occur, a pathway for these thoughts through the network is used to put the entire thing together.  What ends up happening, in the brain, is that a certain pathway that is used tends to have less resistence to having electrochemical transfers on it than one that is not used.  This has some general similarity to the way a used muscle group tends to get stronger and more facile the more it is used, but I digress.

A person who spends a lot of time studying an aspect of something like physics becomes more and more capable of thinking about it as time goes on, because the brain learns to adapt to the stress of connecting up the neurons involved, and establishes pathways allowing their brain to process these thoughts more quickly.

The problem with negative thinking, or the advantage of positive thinking, is that when the person is not mindful of their thoughts and allows their mind to "wander," the brain ends up having an idle state wherein it goes back to transferring electrochemical impulses along the pathways of least resistance.

Spend all your mindful time dwelling on the negative, your brain will spend all of it's idle time dwelling on the negative.  Spend all your mindful time focussing on the positive, your brain will spend all of it's idle time dwelling on the positive.

I am not suggesting that there is no such thing as a mental disorder, but in my experience a lot of the people I have known or met who claim to have a mental disorder like depression strike me as being psychologically lazy and unwilling to take the extra effort to teach their mind how to think in the positive.

As usual, this is just me and I could be wrong.

Sinergy

Hehe..yeah a good example of how chasing your desires just leads to..ah...misery  and perhaps a few broken bones... and about 10 years of counselling fees.
