I am amazed that some people still say that the Holocaust didn't happen at all, or to a much smaller degree that what it did.
 
Does anyone here think that it didn't?  Are you able to say why you don't believe any of it.  It's just hard to believe that over 50 yrs later, it's still being discussed whether to recognize it or not.

I agree they are stupid, but am still amazed it's being played out on a national stage like it is.

You will always get people that deny it happened for their own reasons. Also it takes some people to see things for themselves before they are willing to believe that humans can be so cruel to one another. So to me it’s no mystery that people deny it occurred. Some weirdoes think September the 11th was a conspiracy orchestrated by the Israeli government.

In some parts of the world it is a crime to publicly deny it occurred and is punishable by ten years in prison. I tend to think this is wrong and people should be entitled to debate as long as their point of view is backed up by historical facts; which never happens in reality I suppose.

I think the worst part about it and why the debate still goes on today is that this evil occurred and no one outside of government knew about it until after the war. So it leaves people thinking, how could we not have known?

The sad reality is as more people that were alive from that period die the facts and events will undoubtedly get more and more distorted by the passage of time. One day in the future people will find it easier to believe it didn’t happen we shouldn’t let that day be today. So you always have to ask yourself is the debate really useful to anyone?

I agree with what you say until the last point SohCahToa. From my experience the further away from an event the more people are prepared to believe the truth because they don't have any emotional baggage to deal with.
Historians are getting much better at discovering the bias of past reporting. And new source evidence is always coming to light. However I do believe that the world has a duty to do more research now while people are still alive to give persoanl reports. The important thing is as you said the people in power in the world knew what was happening and turned a blind eye because it wasn't important enough for them to do anything about it. I am ashamed of that. But it isn't the last time it has happened. And I am pretty certain that similar things will happen again and again. That unfortuanately is the world in which we live and I don't know how to change it.

I took a course in highschool called "Genocide" which was mainly based on the Holocaust as well as the Jewish people in general..I sat down with two people who were THERE as children when the Holocaust took place....IT HAPPENED plain and simple...unfortunately so many lives were lost...

The problem: How to counter religious nationalism? It's bad for Jews. It's bad for Muslims.

And Zionism is religious nationalism. Have we ( as a planet ) outgrown Nationalism, especially in this age of global communication? Can there BE a diaspora when we have email and IM?

Is Zion a State of Mind, rather than the State of Israel?

Even after doing extensive reading on the Holocaust I cannot begin to imagine such horror...I think alot of people don't WANT to believe something so horrid could happen....how did we allow this to happen? So many countries, why did we just sit back and let so many innocent people die? It's hard to imagine ..

I believe that the Holocaust did, indeed occur. 

However, there are other things I believe in that some people casually brush-off or even laugh-off as "conspiracy theories."

I often find when probing such people that they have done very little research and have only a rudimentary understanding of the topic at hand. It becomes evident that they are simply relying on basic and often whitewashed information, spoon fed to them by a controlled mainstream media, that they were willing to swallow without question. 

Your blanket statement that people with conspiracy theories are stupid, is uninformed at best. And I'm being very generous with my terminology here.

I personally know well, several people who believe in various so-called conspiracy theories. I can assure you that they are anything but stupid. As a group, they are quite intelligent, and far better informed than the typical John & Jane Q. Public.

Let me ask you: Do you believe everything your government tells you?

A couple of months ago I had the amazing honor to spend a morning with David Faber, holocaust survivor and author of "Because of Romek," a autobiography of his experiences.  To hear first hand what he went through was horrendous.  I left his company so moved I was barely able to think.  I asked him what he thinks of those who say the holocaust does not exist.  He said when he lectures he periodically hears such remarks.  He tells them to take a trip to the graves and spend some time there, and then form an opinion.  Until then, it is just an opnion based on ignorance.
