Pay attention to syntax, or your sentences may be awful pretty.

Speaking of syntax, how about this classic from "Blame it on Rio":

I invited my girl to visit me. I sent her a postcard everyday, with a single word on each card. I wrote: "Found a virgin paradise, it's yours, Matthew." Naturally, they were delivered in the wrong order. The message she got was: "Found a virgin, it's paradise, yours Matthew."

Since the beginning of time, people have opened their writing with broad, absurdly inaccurate claims.

To write good, don't confuse adjectives and adverbs.

Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.

Parenthetical words however must be enclosed in commas.

Joe and myself don't use reflexive pronouns to escape deciding which subjective or objective personal pronoun, I or me, to use.

[Another pet peeve particularly annoying to "myself"]

One should avoid one's tendency to write technically correct, but tediously vague sentences, lest one lose one's readers through one's blatant pretentiousness, shouldn't one?

Avoid excessive subordination, since such a string of dependent clauses will ultimately prove confusing, even though modifiers are generally fine if clearly marked with commas, because readers will get lost in the list of what modifies what, although they could probably figure it out eventually, which is something readers should not have to do.
