An otherwise good sentence can be ruined by a weak, vague phrase at the end, in a way.

Place pronouns as close as possible, especially in long sentences, as of 10 or more words, but especially so in longer sentences, to their antecedents.

It's alarming how frequently I see resumes and cover letters with sentences like this one:

I'm a very good editor, and I have a good eye for detail's.

Numbers between one and ten should be written out, those larger than 11 put in numbers. But if you have to use both, don't mix formats!

OK, OK--I can't resist one more....

Clauses starting with "which" or "who," which are often used by writers who are careless about their sentence construction, are wordy, often just adding unnecessary subjects followed by the verb "are"; just cut them and say the same thing.

all rules, without exception, have exceptions!

by william dickens, or charles shakespeare, i forget which!

it is also difficult to capitalise if you only have one finger!
