greetings I have been here for some time and recently I am experience as others here a lack of common politeness. Okay, someone post a profile and gets responses. Now, I can understand that if a message is vuglar and rude you do not want to reply. However, if a message is a simple introduction of a person who is responding to your profile and you are not interested, don't you think a simple "Thank you but No Thank you" reply would be approiate? I wish you well Nosathro

Yes and no. Of course, it's easy to simply reply "Thanks, but no thanks" and I think a lot do try; however, it sometimes happens that those you've replied to find that "no thanks" reply as an invitation to "chat". Also, if it's apparent from the email that the person who contacted you either didn't read your profile or simply ignored it, then, why should I feel obligated to say no thanks? I've (pretty much) already said it in my profile.

I do not think that anyone that emails me is owed a response unless they are emailing me to comment on the forums. My profile specifically states that I will only respond to those sorts of emails, so I fail to understand how I am being rude to anyone by not responding to them after they specifically ignored my profile.

OK..OK...I agree that there is absolutely NO obligation, but my mom always told me that if someone takes the time to X (whatever the hell X is), you should take the time to Y. Blame my mom!

Newp. Nobody owes you your definition of courtesy. If you're disappointed perhaps it's because you expect your own standard of conduct from strangers (who have not necessarily agreed to your standard). Everybody's got their reasons why they do or don't respond. All of them are valid (for them). If you're interested in finding out why many don't respond then feel free to search the archives here - there's a new thread asking the same question a couple of times a week and no shortage of folks willing to state their piece about it. Lots of info there if you're interested.

The problem is different people keep walking by with their horses, who die in the lousy weather here. They get pissy about it, and proceed to pick the meat from it - again. We've seen it a few dozen times already, so it's old news to us, but it doesn't prevent the new buzzards from tearing the new horse. Then again, by posting on this, aren't we feasting as well? (wipes the stray letters from my chin.)

greeting LuckyAlbatross Let me qualify this. If someone put up a profile and in that profile states they are looking for someone. Those who do responded to it, outside of vulgar comments, the person placing the profile out of courtesy should respond to the email even if is to say "No Thank". Do you respond to junk mail credit card companies, even though you may want a credit card that you specifically requested? If you ignore the offers for junk credit cards, are you being rude?

The first times I used to answer politely.....but then as time passes and I keep getting..stupid emails...e.g. from guys that really think you're looking for a dom even though you state yourself as LESBIAN and especially when they start bragging about how intelligent they are and how, after they've read your profile, have figured out that we're really compatible.. then I really start cutting out on the polite part and send them ..what you might call rude replies but most of the time then I either have simply stopped answering the most stupid ones or tell them politely the reasons for why it's not going to happen..

I try to respond to everyone....thus is why this window is open a lot....LOL But...if they send me some form, cut and paste email...why should I put any effort to write them a response...they didn't care enough to send me anything personally. Sometimes I get like 3 or 4 emails from the same person sending the same exact email every few months...they have no idea who they mass mailed to...they are merely fishing. So sending them a response doesn't remove you from their list....you'll get the same email in a month or two unless you finally just block them
