LOL, this is the equivalent of the independant woman thread in the Gorean Forum...

Funny how everyone thinks alike out here in the end.

Oh My goodness,
I expected one or two more posts after work today ... but WOW!

Lorelei said it best, please go back and read her posts.  As for the flame/bait/bashing controversy - both "sides" have done that.

So let it end here.  My cup overfloweth with knowledge about Gorean followers.

Kindest Regards,
~Kara

P.S. I did notice a mutual, feel sorry for us party, on the gorean forums that suggested that, like lesbians, all a dominant woman really wants and needs is that one, good man. I was a well mannered lady (my grandma and great aunt would be proud) and left without explaining the foolishness of their words to them. I guess there are just some people that refuse to think outside their own box. Thank god I am not one of them.

Well, OK, if we're going to do this, lets go.  As you might imagine, I read the Gorean section a lot.  I don't recall any recent pity party in which it was asserted that both dominant women and lesbians could be reformed if they just had the right man.  Got a link?

Benji, my post had nothing to do with LaTigresse telling you to kiss her ass.

LaT may tell you all day long in every thread on CM to kiss her ass.

In fact, I look forward to reading all about it.

Best Mod post ever.

greetings Master Ron,

some of them even send insults in personal email and show their actions to be nothing like they adjectives they choose to use to describe themselves.

its a waste of bandwidth

Wishing you well

Not quite Ron. I did not tell benji to kiss my ass WITH permission from Mod 12 (even though the permission was after the fact), on that other thread.

And yet they wonder why negative feelings towards them exist.

Just once I would like to see a gorean male use a nice bit of intelligent conversation and mature humour rather than get their back up and give the appearance of a bunch of thick headed, sword wielding, weird talking, buffoons.

Oh wait, we did see that until he got sick of the bs and left.

Which Gorean men, exactly, came here with a sword?  Buffoon is a flame, so I'll ignore that for what it is.  Are you saying that I presented myself as thick-headed and wierd talking?  If not me, who?

What would happen if a male submissive (myself for example) were to engage in battle with a "Master" and defeat him? Would the "Master" then become my bitch?

Honest question here, what would happen?

He would first be turned over the the Mistresses to be feminized and taught how to lisp and flounce as to be a proper bitch to you.

So, I'm guessing that if I said you'd be the first one kneeling and licking my boots after you'd been put under the whip a time or two, that would pass for sparkling, witty argument?  Nice.

In your haste to get defensive you have misread my post or perhaps my wording and/or punctuation is at fault. You see I am fully comfortable admitting when I have erred. It was not my intention that anyone suggested in that particular thread that lesbians were mentioned, it is rather a lesbian joke that I used as comparison. "All a lesbian needs is that one good man" I was using that to refer to someone saying that all a dominant woman needs is that one good man to turn her into a slave or submissive.

Do you understand now or do I need to explain even more succinctly?

Folks, I've been staying away from this thread for the most part, because the OP did not address me.  Since it's been opened up as an open exchange of ideas, I'll be joining in now.  I haven't read a lot of the thread, but I'll go back through and add my comments where I think I might have something to add.

No, that's cool.  Which recent thread was it where we asserted that all a dominant woman needed to be "reformed" was a good man?

I live on a real planet called Earth. I don't really care about what happens in a galaxy far, far away.

I guess the (snide, to my reading) implication here is that we do.  Convenient, but not true.  We don't believe that we live on the fictional planet Gor any more than Noyes believed that Onieda was the fictional Utopia. The Gor books, throughout, draw explicit comparisons between the fictional world that came out of Dr. Lange's head and the real world that we live in here and invite the reader to examine not only male/female sexual roles, but the meanings of abstract concepts like success, personal responsiblity, honor, and respect.  Those of us who call ourselves Gorean prefer much of the values and culture presented in the books to what we find in the popular culture around us, and we have adapted those abstract concepts, values, and ideas to our lifes here and now.

If you honestly thought we were an alien cult whose members believe that they are from another planet, I hope I've disabused you of that notion.

Back to the topic at hand...

I did find this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4996410.stm  It discusses the UK case last year and points out that: "The group, called Kaotians, follow the Chronicles of Gor novels which depict a society where women are dominated."  More to the point that the group was on off-shoot of Goreans (for what it is worth).

I would also like to add that I plan on reading some of the Gor books for myself.  While I have no plans on trading in my flogger or tawse (sweet sweet tawse) for a kajari collar...I am hoping to see what I can conclude on my own.   My heavy academic background in social groups does lead me to wonder about some of the clear 'cultish' tenancies (I have seen articles on this as they relate to the 2nd life 'world' in addition to what I have seen here and on other sites/venues).  However, all and all...what's yours is yours and what's mine in mine...I would never want to convice someone to think my way through groups such as this, only have a real discussion of the issues (funny how this is now a problem on another forum I am the OP of)...am I a hopless romantic for wanting it so...?

I would probably end up in the world of Gor at a young age considering how unaccepting and anti-female that world is. Also it is not real and should not be recreated completly in real life which thank goodness for equality and consentual laws to prevent.

It's not my place to try to convert you, but Goreans really aren't anti-female.  Women are well accepted, and have an important place among us.  We just reject the notion that men and women are interchangable and indistinguishable in their inate drives and abilities.

The Nicolas Cage version of the "The Wicker Man" was in my opinion was disdainful copy of the orginial with Christpher Lee.  Oh and neither had anything to do with Gor.

I wish you well

This may have been asked before...

How do you Ladies feel about the fictitious planet of Gor where women are considered less than men, and submissive men are considered less than nothing?

Hmmm......

Well....I'm not a lady but after watching Nicolas Cage be tricked and then burned alive in ''The Wicker Man'', I have both a healthy and new-found respect for the Goreans.

It was a joke, Bubba. And yes the movie was crappy.

I'm glad that you're going to find out for yourself.  Cult is a hotbutton word, of course.  Given your background, I'm sure you know that various experts on cults have different criteria for determining if a group is a cult.  One of the most succinct is from the Cult Information Centre, so I'll quote it here:

A group is a cult if it displays these five characteristics:

1. It uses psychological coercion to recruit, indoctrinate and retain its members
2. It forms an elitist totalitarian society.
3. Its founder leader is self-appointed, dogmatic, messianic, not accountable and has charisma.
4. It believes 'the end justifies the means' in order to solicit funds recruit people.
5. Its wealth does not benefit its members or society.

Goreans in general certainly do not meet these criteria.  We are not in the least evangelical, and tend to be neutral at best toward newcommers until they have proven that they are serious.  We are also far more likely to invite someone to leave than beg them or coerce them to stay.  A few small groups of Goreans live under the rule of a clan leader, but most Gorean free men are accountable only to themselves.  Again, there are no groups that I know of who solicit donations or actively recruit people in an evangelical fashion, and there isn't a single Gorean that I know of who has managed to amass and hoard wealth from his "followers".

If there is anything more that you'd like to know or discuss, I'll answer as best I can.

Yes, I am quite aware of the criteria, which is why I used the phrase 'cultish tendancies'; I am fully aware that there are many aspects of Gorian culture which fall outside of being a classic 'cult'.
