quote:
ORIGINAL: MstrssPassion I live on a real planet called Earth. I don't really care about what happens in a galaxy far, far away. I guess the (snide, to my reading) implication here is that we do. Convenient, but not true. We don't believe that we live on the fictional planet Gor any more than Noyes believed that Onieda was the fictional Utopia. The Gor books, throughout, draw explicit comparisons between the fictional world that came out of Dr. Lange's head and the real world that we live in here and invite the reader to examine not only male/female sexual roles, but the meanings of abstract concepts like success, personal responsiblity, honor, and respect. Those of us who call ourselves Gorean prefer much of the values and culture presented in the books to what we find in the popular culture around us, and we have adapted those abstract concepts, values, and ideas to our lifes here and now. If you honestly thought we were an alien cult whose members believe that they are from another planet, I hope I've disabused you of that notion.
