So, I was browsing profiles this morning (This is gonna be a great story!) and I noticed something.  Very few subs are doormats, and very few Doms want a doormat.

Is the "I'm no doormat," and "I don't want a doormat" thing a cliche?  Or is it a necessary disclaimer to prevent small area rugs from invading your home?

Has anyone met a doormat in BDSM, or wants to meet one?

Yours,

benji

I thought I had met a doormat once.. but upon closer examination.. it was a doorstop.

You bet... Doormats for stepping... dogs are for kicking!!!!

Oh what a life... step on my door mat and wipe my feet clean and kick that damn dog as I walk into my castle.

I have a doormat with my name on it, does that sort of kind of count? I would gladly be a complete and total doormat for the right feet. =)

That's an excellent definition of doormat.  Mine is a little different, but I'm thinking yours added to mine says it better.

A doormat is someone who can't stop worrying about what everyone around her (or he) wants, including those she doesn't belong to.  All this anxiety to please everyone means the owner has to compete with the unfocused desire to please anyone and everyone, which is really really bad when you want to control someone.

I tend to call that co-dependent.

:) I like that.

Sometimes, once in a while, my "_____" who is not a frequent dormat, wants to be a foot stool, as I read or something.  once in a while -  - I'd say probably about once a month.  And as he put in: "sometimes you feel like a foot stool, sometimes you dont.

I'm always kind of saddened to see culturally acceptable forms of bigotry.

If a sub is from the middle east and wears a turban and likes heroin, does that make them an "afghan"?

That would be stereotyping.  Biggotry would be "I hate those fucking turban wearing, heroin dealing afgans, and I'll be damned if I'd ever live within 10 miles of one".  See the difference? Biggotry is hate or intolerance of another group.  Stereotyping  can lead to biggotry,  or it can express biggotry, but they aren't the same thing.  I doubt this post was motivated by, or intended to inspire biggotry.  It was an attempt to be funny.

benji...would you be my door man?  then after I enter the door, would you happily spread out on my floor and create of yourself a lovely oval 8 X 10 in shades of pink in my living room so I might lay down and relax after a hard day of nursing?

I know people who like to play at being doormats.

As for the "I'm not a doormat" statements, I usually consider it a gauge of someone who's been in the scene a little while, but not long enough to realize they are not what they are treated as and that they don't have to justify their preferences to anybody.
