Ok, here is the problems I see with the story, not necessesarily with the DM's but with the owners/hosts of the Dungeon. Like were they aware that they had a newbie?  If I were owner or manager of a Dungeon that is something I would check out everytime I open the doors, if for no other reason to try and avert harm to my customers.  Another thing, considering she was a newbie she should of had protectors/mentors people that are experienced in not only bdsm but also those who know who to trust and who not to trust in the community. Now when I 1st entered the community, I was fortunate to have a guy who introduced to alot of good people, including friends that became my protectors and mentor.  Technically what the DM did was right.

Ew ew, please, if someones had TRIED to give me a protector/mentor as a newbie, I would have been very uncomfortable and awkward.  You give a newbie a tour and some cookies- not a guard.

As far as "who to trust"- who says the hosts of the party are trusthworthy?  Who says they will have good judgement?  No thank you- I'll decide for MYSELF who to trust, and I think we should force every novice to do the same.

Plenty of "well respected leaders" in the community have just as many people who will regale you with stories of their abuse and idiocy.  A reputation in the scene is rarely worth the breath used to talk about it.
