favorite horror movie? don't really have one - too many in my DVD collection to pick just one favorite however as long the movie gory and bloody - nothing hasn't scared me yet.

enjoyed the Saw movies very much (Saw 3 is coming out soon to DVD) but there's a Saw 4 coming

I also like the old, old version of Texas Chainsaw Massacare. I don't remember what year but it was the oooooold one. Also, House of Wax was good ONLY because Paris died in it. :D

I saw one back in the seventies (the original, I think), omg, scared the beejeebies outta me I tell ya PLUS I was living in TX at the time too!

I also liked the original "Night Of The Living Dead" & "Dawn Of The Dead" too.

Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre has some interesting performances from Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey before they became famous - McConaughey in particular brings a convincing Texas shitkicker attitude to the Vilmer role that borders on riveting at times.

Otherwise, it's about one the stupidest movies ever made, pure shlock.

Stuff that I've found very good of late:

Night Watch (get the dubbed version so you don't have to watch the subtitles, you'll hardly notice the dubbing).  I'm waiting for it's sequel, Day Watch, with baited breath.  I believe it's a Russian film.  It's very good.

I recently saw the director's cut of The Devil's Rejects and I must say that I've now seen more of Captain Spaulding than anyone could ever want to see.  I honestly believe I've been mildly traumatized.  Good work Rob Zombie!

Not really a horror movie but very visually surreal is a movie called Mirror Mask.  The story is a bit slow and the content is pretty dark but it's a visually stunning piece.  It's the kind of thing you might have playing without the sound on while listening to some "music to trip by."

High Tension is a pretty good slasher flick with an outstanding mindfuck buried somewhere inside.  I can't say where or what or it'll spoil it.

I recently saw Final Destination 3 and was pleased with the surprises and squick factor.  I was expecting a tired-ass #3, but found it engaging and I actually turned my head away a time or two.

There's the old standards:  Hellraiser (although I must be honest - I didn't like #2); Nightmare; Alien; The Ring (I didn't like #2); Saw; Hostel; Dawn of the Dead (I like the new one); Sean of the Dead (hey, it's got zombies - even if it's funny as hell it's still a horror flick, right?); Exorcist; Carrie; the original Omen.  I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.

As for older movies the one that comes to my mind most is an old Robert Mitchum flick called The Night of the Hunter.  That movie scared me as a kid and I still find it a tension filled, menacing movie.  It's in black and white.  I believe it was filmed in 1955.

My pet posted her favorites. Now here are a few of mine:

Severed - Outdoor zombie gnawfest.

Alien - Face huggers, snapping jaws, and a sweaty Sigourney Weaver.

Jeepers Creepers - The damn thing won't die!

Silence of the Lambs - It puts the lotion on it's skin, or else it gets the hose again.

The Relic- Fun and mayhem in a museum.

The Thing (1982 version) - Alien parasite on ice. Incredible dog blossom scene.

Wrong Turn - Like a redneck family reunion.

Re-Animator - One scene brings a whole new meaning to the term " giving head ".

Gingersnaps - Goth chicks gone wild.

Phantasm - Creepy long fingers, creepy tall guy, creepy short guys, and a variation of dodgeball.

The original House of Wax was much better IMO
Anything with Vincent Price really

It by Stephen King has a creepy fucking clown and giant spiders ugh

Audition was awesome. The sick little smile on her face is just chilling. *shudders*

I'll mention House on Haunted Hill (remake) since noone else has.  Mostly for that one scene with the woman walking around with the camera.

That was Rutger Hauer at his best, IMO. I'm not even sure I want to bother watching the remake.

He was pretty good in Flesh and Bone too, but that is really getting away from the horror genre.

Would that be Flesh and Blood? The one where he plays a medieval Mercenary? That is a pretty good movie, the horror of medieval reality.

Nobody mentioned The Shining - heeereee's Johnny! I'd love to see that re-released in I-Max, the opening shot is awsome, that's one movie that should be seen in a theatre.

The location for that one is not too far from where I live.
