ORIGINAL: LadyEllen What do the Brits (and others of course) here think of this situation in the BB house? To fill in for our US friends (though if you Google UK news it'll be there), there has been a celebrity Big Brother show running for the past few weeks. One of the housemates is a Bollywood actress from India, in there with the usual range of C list Brit celebrities (Z list on the world stage). The Brits have apparently been giving her a very hard time, treating her in a way that has provoked 20,000 complaints to the broadcasting regulator for racism and a question raised in Parliament about the whole thing. To me, its unsurprising. The Brit "celebrities" in the house, comprise very adequate representatives of the most ignorant and stupid elements of the Brit population. The problem though is, that I'd guess that up to 80% of the white Brit population would respond no differently in such a situation, and further that it is in the main this 80% from which the Big Brother audience is being drawn - and they are also the same sorts which look up to these sort of "celebrities". Now the actress in question, is as one might expect, quite a beautiful lady and, subjective though it might be on my side as one who has only caught glimpses of her and the programme, has the look and aura of intelligence and sophistication about her. I would bet that she is a far better person by every measure, than the ignorant "celebrities" who are giving her a hard time for being Indian. So, is this an example of the endemic racism in much of Brit society? or is it a case of jealousy from these Brit "celebrities" who know that she outclasses them in all ways? E LadyEllen the fact that you and the majority of people who are shouting out the racism card without actually of had viewed the show speaks volumes, and shows just how lazy a card it is to play whenever theres friction between people of different coloured skin. The only person in that house that has brought up any sort of racism issue is Jermaine jackson, as he only see's colour first. Shilpa mocked the English accent just as much as they've taken off her accent, yet that wasnt viewed as racist. Jermaine called Jacky white trash, yet that wasnt racist. Shilpa only eats what she cooks, thats not racist, Shipa said she would only be with a man of the same race, thats not racist. Jermaine only associates with the other person of colour, thats not racist. They get together and bitch about Jade and the other whites just as much as jade bitches about her, thats not racist.... so why is it that everything the white people in the house do is a clear act of racism?? It has nothing to do with the colour of her skin, they resent her because of her class, because she comes from a life of servents, this is nothing new, England has always been divided by class but because she happens to have different coloured skin its now a race issue? Thats just such a lazy card to play, and one sadly played all too often that it ruins the country and makes you inclined to be racist.
