Of course Mr Bush is going to find this worrying, probably about as worrying as the chinese find Bushes low orbitting satellites. Both countries are doing what they feel they need to to deny access to any adversary hostile to them.
There is no  difference between them at all, both are protecting their interests.

Couldn't have put it better myself... lol

The Chinese economy is based on our economy.  Full-blown war with us is the last thing they want.  Take a look around yourself.  Chances are very good that something within five feet of you says "Made in China" (check your stapler and pen drawer).

What the Chinese do want, is Taiwan back.  Seems like they are closer to that capability.

I expect this story will wither and die like so many about China and space before it.  It's inconvenient to the Clinton Legacy.

Well, yes and no.  The US is only China's third major trading partner.  The UK is ahead.  However, if the US pulls out, it is most likely that the UK will pull out too.  No more trade to feed China's ravenous economy, no more money for the government.  No more money for the government, no more money to spend on their military technologies.

China is not going to make the first move against the US.  They WILL however defend North Korea and as soon as their navy is finished they WILL attack Taiwan.  That will hit the US where it hurts.  The US will move on China with UN backing.  The UK and Japan will move in as well.  Russia and NK will step in to defend China.  But the US will get their asses kicked because they will be fighting blind on foreign turf and they are already stretched out too thin as it is.

China is already a world financial superpower.  I spent some time doing a lot of research into the Chinese economy, reading boring white papers and reports and shit.  The US knows full well the dangers of tangling with them and their two million man army.  It is the same juggling act that the US was faced with with the USSR a few decades ago, except this time it is money, not nukes.

I'll refer you to a different post on the subject from another board:

Neither the US nor China want to go to war with each other, but it is very likely they will be dragged into a war for many reasons. First and foremost from a realist perspective, everytime there is a major shift in balance of power between states there is the potential for conflict either directly or by proxy. China's status as a global power in the next few decades and possibly as a superpower in the future will cause the greatest shift in power in human history, due to its large population. The prospect of a peaceful transition in power between the US and China is as likely as the Earth stopping and spinning backwards. Second, China's economy is growing FAST, and economies need energy to grow. Oil is a finite resource and other emerging economies with large populations such as India are creating a big "squeeze" for oil. If China does not secure enough oil its economy will "suffocate" and fall apart. With the US engaged in the Persian Gulf, and Russia having the Caspian Sea in its backyard, China is forced to lay claim to the oil reserves in the South China Sea to survive. According to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Seas, states can claim an exclusize economic zone 200 miles offshore. To claim an exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea, China claimed the Spratly Islands, which run across the South China Sea, and Taiwan. Therefore Taiwan is vital to China's survival, they do not want Taiwan merely as an ideological pursuit of unification. Even if Taiwan does not declare its independence, China will eventually be forced to seize Taiwan dragging the United States into war.
Throughout history, economic interdependence between countries has never prevented them from going to war with each other. Going to to war with another country does not necesarily mean going into total war and destroying its economy.

Okay now back to Tiger...

I dont want to go into another oil and war thing [which goes on and on and on...] but there is one possibility there. Another could be just plain out fear, fear is what drove the previous "competition" and it could just be the same here.

And then again as much as it may get Chinese Generals hard, it could just be as appealing to own us instead of sell us Nikes.

oh wait, those are made in Vietnam.

The UK and Japan will move in as well.
I actually think the UK will think twice about following the USA into anymore of their crap.

Rum you talk about this as if this is a war which could start tomorrow. I have not read much on this yet but even i know it is not going to happen right now. As i understand it most of your troops are in Iraq - what is Bush going to do? Pull them all out and have everyone question what they were doing there in the first place if they could be pulled out so easily?

Serously though I just said it's inevitable, I cant really say too much for sure when, it just feels like the two biggest kids in the yard continously circling each other, somethings gotta happen sometime soon.

How can it happen soon with all your military tied up elsewhere?

According to the news as i said earlier China is not ready to match America as a 'super power' yet and wont be for at least 40 years. I really dont think China is going to start a war with America.

If I rightly remember, you're off to the Air Scouts (yes, I'm allowed to use that term.  If you get a chance, slip the finger towards the 3708 BMTS for me).  I'd keep a closer eye on Korea than the desert.

And I'm of the opinion China would (quietly) let us take him down, if they don't wind up doing it for their own reasons.

well if you had read my post earlier you would know. I said Americas military is mainly involved in Iraq so technically if your absolute panic that China will start a war with you is right you will have to pull out of Iraq to a certain extent to protect yourselves and if you do that it will be instantly questioned what you were doing in Iraq if it is so easy to pull out now. Think man what you are saying.

And if youd read mine I said I dident even think it would happen tomarrow, but it seems inevitable, China is already a massive and formidable an adversary that we've ever faced. And you seem to think Bush will be in power forever.

As for Iraq...well, we already are being questioned now arent we?

So your point is...if China starts some shit...the biggest thing close to a superpower next to us according to your news...then it means that we will have to use our troops...

...and?

Edit: Oh...and exactly how would our forces being half a world away actually serve as motivation for China NOT to start shit?

China has destroyed an old satelite in a test,. Is this the start of a new cold war or are they sending Bush a message that the US can't call all the shots, especially since Bush has laid out his position....

Last August, Mr Bush laid out an even more robust vision of America's role in space, asserting Washington's right to deny access to any adversary hostile to US interests, and some arms control experts have accused the administration of conducting secret research on laser weapons to disable and destroy enemy satellites.

Not to poke fun at you, Meatcleaver, but when I read articles like that I really have to laugh. The way they've compartmentalized their society/ thinking, they have no chance of ever catching up. I'm quite sure we have spaced-based technology in a back room somewhere that's forty years advanced of theirs. Had it not been for slick Willie and John Podesta's authorizing technology transfers / sale of Lorel's satellite components and guidance systems, they'd be sixty years behind.

Really.....it's funny to read threats in quotations from them when they're still lobbying both Google and Yahoo to censor content on the internet from their own citizenry.

You said soon and im afraid 40 odd years isnt soon to me.

And you seem to think Bush will be in power forever.
No i really dont but he is in power now. Well kind of !!

As for Iraq...well, we already are being questioned now arent we?
Yes and with damn good reason. It would only be worse though if troops are pulled out of Iraq to deal with China now.

So your point is...if China starts some shit...the biggest thing close to a superpower next to us according to your news...then it means that we will have to use our troops...

...and?
No my point is you are over reacting. Nothing is going to happen. China is not going to start a war with you they are not ready. Bush could pull troops from Iraq to use against China but i think the hassle he would get would not be worth it.
Might i suggest that you put down the bottle - get some black coffee and actually read and take in what i'm saying.

Anti-satelite weapons might lead to space based weapons platforms to defend satelites then it's just a short step to space based weapons that can hit targets on earth... something every country has been avoiding for a long time...  I'm just rambling.
