I have met so many people that were very attractive on the outside, sit down to talk to them, and discover they were

1)narcissistic
2)As dumb as a box of rocks
3)interested in things like hunting, football, or or cars to the exclusion of everything else

All of these things would ruin any sort of attractiveness they possessed in my eyes.

On the other hand, I have on more than one occasion met someone that did not knock my socks off to start with, but their personality was such that I became intensely attracted.

this is so very true for me as well.
actually i find that i usually assume beautiful people are one of the three listed above or just cruel. so, i find if i meet a beautiful person  "in real life" i tend to not even give them a chance. most of my relationships have been with people i met online. so of course its the personality  ( inner beauty ) i desire first. ( at least the personality they protray)
my current mate i knew for 3 years before a relationship devloped. i find him to be a very attractive man, but after i learned more of who he is.. his talents.. thats when i truly started getting interested.

I was in my local bar this evening and a group of young Danish women came in for a drink and I doubt if there was one bloke in the bar bothered about their inner beauty. They were shaped in all the right places and all wore beautiful smiles. They were quite chatty and funny too but if they were harredons but were happy to put their butts around I doubt any hot blooded male would have said no. Unfortunately I'm too realistic to test the water because they were probably friendly towards me because I reminded them of their father or uncle or something..

Having read enough of the answers to your post, I have to say "yada yada yada" and "blah fucking blah"....however....

I was married once to a woman who should have won every beauty contest, had she ever entered them.

She actually didn't know how beautiful she was.  Women are like that.  It's funny...there are some who know...and act as if they don't...there are far more who don't know...and there isn't a man who doesn't truly question why.

With, but for a few exceptions...men will never be as beautiful as women.  Even the most homely...they exceed most men.  They have Gods gift...and then there's makeup.

Even Oprah, with enough makeup, looks stunning.

Women do have the advantage.

I was once attracted to a womans outer beauty, and over time (through marriage) found that beauty is never least found through the extremities.  I, like most men, am attracted to a woman for all the attributes that a woman possesses...but, at 48, I can assure you...a womans beauty is best expressed through her heart...and as well, through her mind.

Those are the women I find most attractive.

Those are the women who can hold me.

She, above all women...is the most seductive.

(And she alone would make Cleopatra pale).

Everyone wants there to be some attraction.  But if there isn't anything else there but physical attraction its not enough for me.  Its not even enough for me for "just sex."

there has to be something about him to capture my attention physically , I like eyes mouth hands and shoulders just me, then a sense of himself, honesty, intelligence, I dont mind discussing football for hours I love the sport, baskeball different story , by listening to a man talk about what he loves you can get a rare insight as to who he is because he lets his guard down. Looks are not really important because  beauty fades but  a true heart last forever.

honestly, I need both....of course I like to be physically attracted first...but sometimes it doesn't work out that way.  So I've trained myself not to jump the gun.

I've dated those that I thought were totally "hot"...then.....they talked....lol  And little by little they became very unattractive to me.

I've dated those that most would consider not even remotely attractive...but after talking to them, we laugh and have fun and I start to notice attractive things about them.

I've learned you can miss out on some gems by not looking deep enough

When I was younger I tended to prefer the "pretty boys" and the
"bad boys" that again were "nice looking".
I am not going to write a book, but I will say that many of the most
attractive people tend to be high "maintenance".
You will indeed pay a price if you become involved with them, usually.
At this point being over 40, having good health and being physically
fit mean more to me.
I expect good hygiene also.
I am much more concerned with the inner person, that means about 80% to me.
If the person needs "help" I can help them lose weight, get a makeover, exercise, etc.
Cosmetic surgery has come a long way.
But an ugly inner spirit I can't help.
So my vote is for the inner beauty.

For me there has to be a physical attraction/chemistry to start with. And my idea of that is not exactly what may be found on the cover of GQ .
"Inner beauty", to me has become a new catch phrase. i find i like the term less and less the more it is used.
But ...when the whole package is on mark, i have been known to call many a man beautiful - it encompasses everything :-)

Yada yada yada  And  blah fucking blah,

A Woman's beauty is expressed by giving a shit about her appearance...Her favorite "sexual position" is not head first in the refrigerator.

Then I will take the time to find out what her brain and her heart have to say....

out.

I agree wholeheartedly that beauty is only skin deep, it is also in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes the inner beauty shines through, BUT when initially meeting someone I feel there has to be a spark of something because I believe we all have 'types' we are attracted to. Chatting to people on a forum such as this is good as one can sometimes get a feel for a person, but if when one sees a photo and there isn't that 'certain something'.... it does not stop the friendship but it posssibly stops it developing further.

outer beauty = superfacial, wrinkles, cracks and fades with time no matter how many botox injections you get

inner beauty  is the direct opposite.

i look for inner beauty because it does not fade away over a period of time.

Basing a relationship on the shape of someone's head should be left to teenagers.

Hey...I'm a guy....I love looking at beautiful women....but I'll still take one with brains any day (so long as she doesn't firmly believe that butter and sour cream are two of the four food groups).

Both are important, inner is more enduring, physical by itself is
rather boring.

Being the biological animal I am, I seek only enough outer beauty to find a physical connection with. Thus meeting my biological needs that I have inherited over generations. I do not need Barbie to be happy. But I am also an intelligent animal by the grace of God, thus the inner beauty of a person is what keeps me from moving onward to the next.

Or it could be her scorn. Naw a quick spanking or two will remind her of her place. Winks.
