This is an interesting question to me, because as a male dominant seeking female submissives, I've never gotten this question in the way you ladies are talking about it.  I wonder if it is a male submissive "thing"?  Usually I'm the one who brings up what I might do to a submissive I'm talking with, after some meaningful contact, and if I do bring it up it is to see if there is some "kink compatiblity", as crouchingtigress says.

Is it a male "do-me" sub phenomena?  Do you, as a domme, get the "what would you do to me?" from women too?  I'm curious.

I get that too... and I do use the "it depends on my mood" thing... but the question I really hate is.. "how r u going to disapline me?"..... Why? Are you planning on acting out?

I tend to have little emotional reaction to that question.
First I tell them that they would have to pass the initial
interview and communicate with me in person.

To me I take it one of two ways:  He is either looking for wank material or is weighing his options on whether or not he wants to disobey and face the punishment.  Either reason is not acceptable to me.  It can be frustrating and I generally brush off the question pretty quickly.  Anyone who continues in that vein will likely find that they have no me to continue asking.

It depends on who you are and what you want, doesn't it?  i myself am a very physical creature by nature, and under that umbrella comes sexuality.  Such a thing is very important to anyone i'd consider getting into a serious romantic relationship with.  Of course, i always avoid the "WWYD" statements, i prefer round-about ways, we all end up talking about our pasts sooner or later, right?  When you get into those, you can keep conversations going for hours if you're sexually compatible with someone.  Just her reactions to the things she's telling me, how long she dwells on a particular experience or fantasy, that usually gives me enough of an idea to know where we'd be headed.  "WWYD" seems very low class to me, i guess =\ Then again at least they're direct, i suppose my methods are a bit more manipulative. =\

Everyone has to find out one way or the other whether or not they are compatible with one another.  There is a fine line between getting that information and trying to manipulate the situation or relationship to determine whether or not you want to follow particular rules or to try to get what you want.  I am all for open and honest communication and the process of discovery when in the beginning stages of a relationship.  However, there is a difference, at least to me, in "your general process and philosophy on this relationion is acceptable and ok with me" and "hmmm, she says I will get spanked for doing this.  I'm ok with that so I am going to do it regardless of her instructions." 

Then, there's simply the wank material stuff which is usually pretty transparent and I don't even go there.

Well, punishments aren't supposed to be enjoyed.  There are those who would purposely disobey if they felt that the consequences for doing so would be acceptable to them.  Which skews the entire relationship IMO.

It's not the punishment activity itself that's enjoyed, if it is, it's not punishment =P One enjoys the idea someone cares about you so they'll guide you, or gets the thrill from knowing they belong to this person, or some other reason i can't think of at the moment ^_^

And, in the effort to not let this stray too far from the OP...

I just wish I'd read this a long time ago.
I thought I was unique in not knowing what I would want to do with a submissive until I knew them extremely well and even if I knew telling them would spoil it for me.
Also my ideas and preferences change as I develop in a relationship with a submissive.
I suppose this might be a way to tell a bottom from a submissive.
Or someone with a fetish or more instead of a submissive.
If someone disappears on me because I don't tell them then I know they were not really interested in me.
Does it annoy me?
It used to really hurt me.

Soon as I get this question I know it's over...I have never played anyone who has asked me this question.

My boys that I have kept have found a more diplomatic was of finding out if we are compatible or not.  Usually they ask what I like to do. And they counter with they have or have not done that. For some reason most of the boys I get want either hard core CBT or hard ‘leave me bruised’ paddlings. Thank you crouchingtigress.  It appears you've said everything that needed to be said.  I'm quite surprised to see it had no impact, despite it being posted by a Dominant Woman who has earned a great deal of respect among the members here as a result of her frequently very insightful and helpful posts on the boards here at CM. [&:]
