ORIGINAL: demistress Mellian: Interesting commentary (if totally rude, self righteous and ignorant, and unfortunately EXACTLY the attitudes that I'm so used to with your community) , but I wonder, if you had a brain scan and analysis done, and a nuerologist was asked to identify the gender of your brain, what would they say? You are aware that there are differences in the brain that do directly correlate to the growth of whatever you ended up with between your legs, and GENERALLY (not always) TS actually does have a brain that matches their BIRTH gender. It depends which brain structures one is refering too and also which studies one puts faith in. Some studies show that there are very real brain structure differences between natal average males and females, gay men, and trans women. There is one study that tries to prove the other studies wrong, citing that the hormones change the brain structure that is being studied. More specifically the studies are all looking at a region of the brain known as the BSTc region of the hypothalamus. It's believed by some that it is responsible for a persons sexual and gender identity. The BSTc of transsexual corpses that were studied were shown to be more like natal females, so it was assumed that this accounted for the "Woman trapped in a mans body" phenomenon. Partial masculination might also account for a crossdressing impulse. As well as this there is a researcher who published an article in Nature. Her research centered around the inhibition of a prostaglandin that enabled testosterone to be absorbed by the fetal brain during development. She used a very powerful blocker for this prostaglandin, however she felt that something as simple as aspirin taken during pregnancy at just the right time might cause the development of femminized males. On the flip side if the prosteglandin allowed too much testostene into the brain of a developing female fetus, their brain could become masculinized. This was all done with experiments on rats. When the right conditions were created she could get male rats to behave in more female typical ways (typical for female rats), and females to behave in more typicaly male ways. Both of these theories have been based on natal development while the child is in utero. It has to do with a window of tine during development in which certain chemicals are released to masculize the brain of the male child. If that window of opportunity is missed then that aspect of the brain is left unmasculinized. Now there is some other more distinct parts of the brain that differ between the sexes. For instance the corpus callosum is denser and shorter in females than in males. This is assumed to account for a higher efficiency in thought processes in women compared with men. It's assumed this might account for why many women are much more intuitive about the feelings of others since there is a faster recognition of what is going on. More nerve fibers better data transmission at a faster rate. Estrogen also helps augment the thought process. If I remember correctly women have a greater neuron density than males as well. Anyhow that only covers the realm of neurobiology. It's not accounting for social conditioning, individual psychology, upbringing, and personal experiences as co-factors in whether a trans woman is a femminine person, an average female, or just a man in a dress. quote:
Lady Ellen, I'm sorry that happened to you, and he was a coward, but frankly, you set yourself up for it. Your profile is not very clear about it at all for those of us NOT TS or TS-experienced, and expecting someone to read through all your (or my, or any other regular poster's posts) and actually remember ALL that they read is silly. Personally, if I thought I was meeting with a natural born unaltered female woman, and it turned out they had hidden their birth gender from me, I would have been extremely pissed at being misled, and I would have gotten up and left as well, but of course I would have been clear about why. Not because the person was TS but because they couldn't be open and up front about it. I have met with a # of TS (pre and post) and CDs, but I do expect to be told clearly and concisely that they are TS, just like I expect to be told clearly and concisely what age, what marital status, what family status, what limits, etc. etc. So that I can make an informed decision about our likely comptibility. In some ways though not being too forthright helps keep the tranny chasers at bay. Also this is a very public web space. It can be very easily googled, listing as female reduces the ease of somone finding us from outside of CM. People who are not signed up members can browse without joining first. So the amount of traffic that comes in from tranny fans looking for another tranny girl to have a quickie with before the guy runs back to his wife and children is considerably higher. Hence listing ourselves as female can reduce the number of those guys cruising for a pre-op/non-op girl. It's not neccessarily about misleading people. It's about protecting ourselves sometimes. Also there are guys that the minute they see the trans lable they come running looking for easy sex. They don't read the profile, they don't need to, their only intention is to get a quickie so he won't have to get to know her enough anyway. By leaving the details about being trans until the last it forces the individual to read and understand something about the lady he's interested in. Disclosure is actually a really hot potato in the trans world. Some girls won't, some are totally out, some discretely wait for the right time to bring it up. Usually if he's showing more than a desire for a quickie.
