On the Tyra Banks show tonight they are talking about casting spells.  It was hard to catch, but I think they are talking about Wicca.  Talk about the most ridiculous line of shit I have ever heard.  They are talking about sending "magical bitch slaps" to those that harm their family and stuff.  What a giant crock.  Ever since 1954 I guess.

Do any of you believe in any of this garbage?  I do believe in the supernatural, but I also believe Wiccans have about as much "magical power" as people have fortune teller capabilities.  I truly think the only "power" they have is in their heads.  But, if it gives them something to do on a Saturday night, power to them..  I do not mind laughing at them.  They look so stupid sitting up there bragging about their "powers".  HAH!!!  lol  [sm=lol.gif]

Yes.  Clearly.  Infinately more stupid than falling to one's knees and speaking to some magical mystical God expecting Him to help me win the lotto or find a wallet filled with just cash, so I can afford my rent.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people derive so much enjoyment from pissing on what other people believe.

Stephan

If I got this right, the only spells Wiccans cast is to communicate with the Divine?  ie prayer?  Then why the hell do they not just pray?  Why all the stupidity that goes along with it?  I am having trouble wrapping my brains around that.

No silly :)  I'm speaking just for myself and my own beliefs.

Each person has to follow their own path.  I have drawn protection spells when my ex was released from jail to keep him far away, is that what did it, I can never tell but it allowed me to focus and stay calm and not track down my freaking sister in law and just bitch slap her for posting his bail. I have also asked for favors from the gods and give something in return what the favor is granted.  Wyrd definetly can be bent to a person's will but it does take a great deal of energy to do so.

domiguy -> RE: Casting spells (1/30/2007 4:27:28 PM)

My story is incredibly similiar to "freyjasdottir's" and anything I would add would just diminish the beauty and truth of what was written...God Bless You.

My girlfriend was watching it and I could see the TV from the computer.  I was disgusted, that is all.  Ribbit.

sophia37 -> RE: Casting spells (1/30/2007 5:35:57 PM)

I think Sir Ken had a wonderful time watching TV from the sounds of it! Aint it fun to be offended? Hmm if you like to be offended, theres plenty of god TV out there. I get about 15 channels of it. So it goes over big with not just Sir Ken.

TruDomNZ -> RE: Casting spells (1/30/2007 5:41:26 PM)

Folks believe what they will to help get through life.  I have an innate belief in the system of law and order, yet you see how often that falls down!

Unfortunately we are taught at a young age not to be selfish.  What many people don't realise is that humans ARE selfish - that is how we survive.  So next time someone gives you a phone call, or invites you out, consider what it is that they want from you... it is an interesting exercise.  Hell, even Mother Teresa was selfish!  We all are!

Back to the topic: we all have a belief system, and that belief system can always be tested.  Sure, Christianity was invented by the Roman imperial rulers as an alternative to long-established Goddess-worship religions.  But really, who cares?  We all are selfish, we all act in ignorant self-interest, and we all believe in SOMETHING (esp. people who say they don't lol).

As for me, I believe that something will always happen, whether I'm there or not.  The only decision I need ever to make is whether I want to be there when it does.

So sayeth me.  (Feel free to set up effigies in my image in your personal shrines)

I think the main point you should realize here is that those people on TV are crackpots. I mean, if I thought the people who were on TV were true representatives I would think everyone who lived in a trailer was named Bobby-Jo and had bad teeth and lacked rudimentary education.

As to some people needing ceremonies and such to contact the divine... well, that's just the way they work. Some people can focus themselves without physical representations, some people need the full ceremony to get them in the mood. It varies from person to person and if it works for them, its valid for them.

Ribbit.

Who is Ribbit? Or what is ribbit?

angylec -> RE: Casting spells (1/30/2007 6:59:14 PM)

a spell is nothing more or less than a way of focusing your energy and will, and sending it out into the universe. although since we've all heard the truism be careful what you ask for...this is even more true with magick (the k is used to distinguish it from stage magic) because you are so focused on what is you want. it's always better to end any spell with the phrase "and with harm to none" or something similar.

LaMspeach -> RE: Casting spells (1/30/2007 7:44:53 PM)

I'm not to sure about all the wicca garbage BUT i  do know LaM can say a few magic words and cast  awsome spells.

Apologies on behalf of the English speakers Rule; "ribbit" is a sound attributed to a frog.

Alternatively, it could be part of a cooked lamb rack which has fallen loose, and is thus a rib bit.

Are you sure you want to cast this? It comes back three fold. hehehe

I am so glad i am surrounded by intellegent people, so this doesn't have to be a long ass post. The only things not touched on... Gardner is not the founder of Wicca. He just took an old religion that had been underground, and made it easier for everyone to be understand what was going on.

Spells....how fun. Why wouldn't anyone want to be a witch? You get to be alll powerful bitch slapper. LMAO I find it funny though that the show made it sound like a witch HAD to have these tools to cast spells. Not even close. I think everyone has heard the saying..."be careful what you wish for." Yep, spoken word is all it takes.
