quote:
Anyone know the plural of "consensus"? "Nexus"? "Caucus"? Well, Lam, if sissy's knowledge of Algonquin is correct, the plural of caucus is caucuses ... or are they those dwarf plants with the bright saffron and purple flowers that bloom in early spring in that mountainous area of southeast Europe laying between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea? [:D] Now nexus is a word to warm the cockles (oh, stop it ... y'all have such puerile minds!) of the hearts of those of us into bondage, since it is derived from the past participle of the Latin verb nectere meaning to tie or bind - hence the modern English word neck tie <giggles>. [sm=lol.gif] The official plural of nexus is either itself (nexus) or nexuses. Presumably one would use the word nexuses wherever one could use the phrase "points of connection", and one would use the word nexus wherever one would use the phrase "point of connections". Just a sissy thought ... [;)] Now sissy could not find any consensus for the plural of the word that every kinkster and pervert knows and loves as the term that originally put the "C" in "SSC". So sissy conducted a census. To tell the truth, he didn't stop at conducting just one census; sissy went one step further and conducted a number of censuses to find out if anyone else actually knew what the plural of consensus was. The outcome of these censuses was mixed ... there was no consensus amongst the results of these censuses. Some participants thought that the plural of consensus was consensuses ... but that was mostly because they knew they were participating in a series of censuses on this topic and they became confused. [:)] The two words are NOT related, so if you think that consensuses is the plural of consensus because it sounds right, then you might be the sort of person that thinks the plural of crocus is crocii ... and how anyone would believe that the plural of a bulbous plant can be a game played with mallets is completely beyond this sissy! These kind of people are totally evil, IsHO ... they fully intend to maliciously disrupt and confuse the English speaking world with their crocii nonsensus. Their petty spiteful minds are simply full of what is more commonly known as mallets aforethought! They should just stick to hanging around in bars croaking popular songs live to the prerecorded accompaniment of a musical entertainment system, in this sissy's opinion. [;)] But sissy now digresses as well as crossdresses. Other respondents to sissy's censuses on this topic thought that the plural of consensus was consenses ... which also sounds like it could be right, but as the example of crocii demonstrates, that's not a measure of anything when it comes to the fine art of deriving plurals. [:(] Yet another bunch of Yahoos thought that the plural of consensus was consensii ... sissy gives all of you out there reading this post his most sincere and solemn pledge that these particular people will be tracked down, dragged from their beds, and eliminated! Enough of their friggin' madness ... [:(] So sissy has come to the conclusion that there is NO valid plural form for the word consensus. But this makes sense (consense?) if one thinks about it. The whole point of working towards a consensus is to arrive at a joint, mutually agreed upon opinion ... so if you end up with a bunch of consensuses instead then you must be doing it all wrong! ROTFLsAO [:D][sm=lol.gif][:D] One final thought here ... is lewd, lustful, lecherous and lascivious sex with a prison inmate always consensual? [:D] So much for the vagaries, vagueness and changeabilities in the meanings of words. sissy Has no time for such vicissitudes ... oh, wait a minute here ... vicissitudes ... hmmm, that has kind of a nice ring to it, doesn't it? It sounds like it should be exactly the sort of thing that a sissy like lola ought to be into ... [;)] sissy maid lola [image]local://upfiles/21203/7550AAD373274EA8911F0BC3852D002C.jpg[/image]
