OK...I will start then...my fave story is about a cat that is no longer with me. He was half wild bob cat...weighed in at about 45 pounds and could keep his back feet on the floor and touch my shoulders with his front paws.....granted I am not that tall...lol

Setting was...I was single and having my last back surgery, my cats were at my parents for about a year because I was not physically able to take care of them. My house was a drop house for a group of musicians....which was the only way I could stay there. I was coming home from the hosiptal and my mom was going to stay with me to help, dad was putting a railing on my steps as I was just starting to walk again. The cats were away from their home so long it was no longer their home. Sabbath go out and my dad got him....cats declawed will bite as quick as normal cats scratch.....Sabbath bite my dad's hand...and instead of just telling him to stop my dad dragging his hand away...not letting go of the cat...as I would be upset if anything happened to my cat. HE comes into the house with cat and hand dripping and covered with blood. One of the guys was there and rushed to help....he thought my dad had cut himself with the saw.........Dad says...no bethie's cat just bite me....cleaned it off....went to hosiptal..got 10 stitches. From then on....that cat ruled the house...LOL...all the guys were afraid of it....it would be laying on the sofa....stretched out...they would sit on the floor and not want to move it for fear of what it would do to them........silly men...afraid of my baby kitty.

I rescued my cat from the animal shelter, if I didn't take him home, he was scheduled to be put down in less than a week. He is a beautiful 2-3 year old 12 pound orange tabby named "Rusty". He is not independent like most cats, he perfers to be held "all" of the time..He loves alot of attention and gets alot of joy out of attacking my jackets or shirts that have strings on them--whenever i try to talk on the phone he gets in between me and the phone or just sits on my keyboard when I try to chat...he's a very well behaved cat and it's nice to have someone around....love him like crazy.

One of the few female cats I ever owned truly, truly loved me. I miss her. We first met when I was at my BFs house (later I married him). She trotted across the yard from a neighbor's and jumped up in my lap like she'd known me for years. When those neighbors decided to move, they decided to give her up. I took her. She had two sets of kittens while with me before I had her spayed, mostly because I couldn't bear to give any more kittens away. She always slept with me and when she was pregnant, she'd not go to sleep without my hand wrapped around her tummy. It was totally cool to feel the kittens move and she enjoyed the massage (as any pregnant woman would).

During those years, I was having a lot of pain due to pancreatitis. When I'd be home from work with it, I'd sleep propped up in the corner of the sectional sofa. She'd come and lay with me. (None of the other cats were quite this affectionate, BTW. They loved me, but she was different.). I was sick one day soon after she'd had her second litter of kittens. She had them in the closet where I'd fixed her a nice spot. The day that I was sick, she'd come stay with me a while, then go stay with the kittens a while...back and forth for hours.

Some time that afternoon, I hear mewing. Here she comes with a kitten in her mouth out to me. She actually jump up onto the sofa with it and layed it on my chest. Then, she went back to get another one that she placed on the floor in the corner of the couch. I put the one she'd layed with me with it and she agreed it was a good thing (she had a certain meow). She went and got the other two and added them to the pile. From there, it was simply a jump on or off the couch to switch motherly attention. I think it's one of the sweetest things EVER in my life.

She eventually died (she was white and she got hit one morning when the fog was thick as pea soup). We buried her in the backyard and I had a river rock engraved with her name on it. Since then, I've buried two more cats there and now, that's the center of my medicine wheel.

My guy is from the shelter and I've had him for almost a year. When I have bad dreams he lies next to me and pats my face until I wake up.

aaawwww... that is one of the sweetest stories I've ever heard about a cat.

I've had cats my whole life... can't think of any particular stories, I just love them... I had a cat when I was younger who would not have her kittens until I sat next to her and rubbed her head (basically, held her hand through the delivery).

My two cats have been adorned with the love I would put onto a child if I had one... they are just the greatest, sweetest companions! The maine coon is a total goof-ball even plays fetch and when he's really happy, tends to drool on you like a dog would... ok, totally gross, but, well, it's a sign of affection!

My Master was a little apprehensive about cats, wasn't used to them, but, my cats have turned his opinion around and they like Him too....

To me all animals are the best judge of character I think! I just don't trust people who say they don't like pets. My opinion of course.

Mine like to play "Life on the Serengeti". There are several different themes: Hunt to Kill (pounce and create a disturbance that could wake the neighbors), Near Miss (this is like "tag"), Elephant Stampede (how a 10 pound cat can make that much noise running across the house, I have no idea), Laughing Hyena (this includes anything they find amusing like knocking stuff off the counter) and, finally, Train the Tourguide (which is anything they have trained you to do like open the door or feed them).

There are other games that my 19 pound cat Lucky like to play. Fetch is one. He loves to fetch crumbled up paper. He also has a plastic fetish and will lick a plastic grocery bag for thirty minutes straight. Snow, the cat I wrote about before, had a shoe fetish. I still have a pair of dress shoes with her teeth marks. I refuse to have them repaired or throw them away. She also liked to lay "Hammock" which was where she'd come and climb into the hammock created by my pants when they were around my ankles as I sat upon "the throne".

My horse back riding instructor had a cat who would drool and knead the shit out of you with sharp claws when pleased, the happier he was the droolier and claw'ier he got.

*as I am sitting here trying to type with the maine coon on my lap drooling on my arm and head butting my hand* ... both cats love to do that kneading when they are happy, I call it "making bread"

I actually love animals (not just to eat)...had hayfever as a kid...and now as I have gotten older...My allergies have manifested themselves towards animal dander....It's awful. Definitely an outdoors prson and love wildlife as well as all animals...In order to live with or have a pet would require an inhaler or a bubble....Bummer. If someone has a cat,dog, guinea pig....I can tell, if in their proximity, because my throat will start to "itch."...It sucks!!!

ok, i could completely fill this thread with stories of the cats who have graced my life with their presence in it...but my all-time favorite cat was Mr. Cat...he was a stray who picked me up in the alley one day & refused to leave my side for the next 14 years...my friend who hated cats said he was a "dignified" cat, which is why he would never tell me his first name, just let me call him Mr. Cat...

one weekend day, i called him to come in the house & it was a very long time before he finally appeared & when he did he was limping so badly that i thought he had a spinal cord injury...turned out to be 2 broken metatarsals in his hind paw--did i mention that he was a Wuss?--when i took him to his regular vet the next day to get his foot set & a permanent cast on, the vet said he would have to anesthetize him to do the closed reduction...i said that as Mr. Cat was then around 18 years old, that wasn't ok with me & that if i told Mr. Cat what was to happen, he would allow the vet to do what he needed to do...after a long discussion, i finally got the vet to agree to try it my way & if it didn't work, he could then anesthetize him...i bent down & told Mr. Cat exactly what the vet would do & he put his head under my arm, the vet did the entire procedure & Mr. Cat didn't even flinch...

after that, the vet--who, btw, was Elmo Shropshire, the guy who sang "Grandma got run over by a reindeer"--would throw his arms around Mr. Cat & give him a great big hug every time i brought him in, which Mr. Cat graciously endured........

This wasn't exactly the "cat" i thought about when i read the topic -- Think i've been hanging around here too long?..lol..

but..

i haven't had a cat since my oldest was a tot because of his allergies. The doc said i could only keep one of em... (and it wasn't until he hit teenage years i questioned my decision..j/k..lol).

All those ago, we had 3 cats who owned us..and i adored them every one.. and i do miss them. The only reason i don't have one now that the tot is now fully grown and long gone from my home, is that my lease doesn't allow it. <sigh>
