Rules of geek/nerd-ery include:

D&D, Ren fairs, SCA, LARPing, Stark Trek, anything by H.P. Lovecraft, etc.

Basically I want to see who's the biggest geek out've all our forum users. Winners decided by posts.

Here I go:

I played D&D since 8th grade. I have a picture of me in costume at a Ren. Faire when I was a wee one. I've LARPed in the past and have bruises to prove it.

And... I suck as a geek. [:(]

Have played RPG's for nearly 27 years now. Was a member of the AV club, photo club, computer club (this was back in the eearly 80's, so even knowing how to do anything with a computer automatical made you a geek), in high school the speach team captin kept trying to get me to join.

Oh, don't forget about no dates till after graduating from high school. I was a friend to most of the girls, but not the guy they wanted to date, lol.

Edit: In fact I am heading out to midevil fight class that the park district runs. The group leader is working on absorbing enough of the small groups. So in a couple of years he can take his army and fight against the SCA armies at war.

Yes, I am a geek.

in high school, it was: Student Council, Model UN, school newspaper, drama, Spanish and French, pre-law, Catholic Youth Ministry, Girl's Chorus

in college, it's Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc - Lambda Alpha chapter, Pan Hellenic (Greek frat/sorority governing council - was Vice-Prez and Prez), dorm Secretary, English, Black Baptist Student Union, Chicago Club, Student Council

currently, member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Comer's Children's Hospital Parent's Board

I don't think that sounds anything like geeky...more like preppy.

You sound like someone with a life...I have a life too...actually, I'm a gamer so I have many lives, but it's not the same thing:P

Must be a generational thing..that sounds like the opposite of geeky to me.

Geeky to me (I was born in '83) is  LARP, RPGs, D&D, SCA, Renn Faire, Video Gaming, MMORPG/WoW/EQ/NWN, reading Fantasy, LOTR, Anime, hentai, CosPlay etc.

RPGS and D&D were around in th 80's I believe. But it was 1st ed. and it sucked:P

Don't even get us old-time gamers going on what edition DnD is on. When you say 1st edition, do you mean 1st edition ADnD? ODnD? Basic DnD? what about the pre DnD that was published in the small white box?

If you think 1st edition was ADnD and that sucked. Then get a hold of basic DnD or worse yet the white box edition.

Oh just as a quick note, on several of the DnD web sites. People who have only played 3.x DnD are wanting the game to de-elvove back to Basic DnD (except with more rules for minitures).

I don't really know much about 1st ed other than it must have sucked because it didn't have D20 system. Didn't AD&D have THACO? I much prefer D20. But then again, it's what I started with. I like 3rd and 3.5.

We just officially lost all ungeeky people I think with this conversation:P

HEY! It was all we had!
 
I really can't claim geek status for my time playing D&D, as it was when I was in the USMC. My squad had a game that ran for about three years- and as I think of it, may still be running.
 
We also, for a while, played a RPG called 'traveller' which was a scifi game.
 
I did rennfaires/SCA for a few years, too...

I belive we did loose them.
Ya THAC0 (To Hit AC 0) was a table used in all the pre 3.x edition. since AC decreased as you got better (AC 0 is equlivent to AC 20 now).  It was a hard shift to switch from 20 years of that thinking to what 3.x uses.

I'm a Trekkie simmer lol all the PBeM sims, im in three at the moment, spanning the generations, all except f or TOS and ST-E. In two around ST after FC and Nemesis, and the other is around the motion pic, i watch all sci fi lol
