subdreamerboy -> RE: How geeky/nerdy are you? (2/12/2007 10:45:58 PM)

played D&D, Wheel of Time RPG, currently have characters on World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI, graduated with a degree in microbiology, lived on the honors floor of the science college, read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy, trekkie (i've seen every episode of TNG, most many times) and like star wars too, love renfests (go to all three major ones here in michigan every year), and i'm also a computer geek...  probably more... and I'm the most NORMAL of my friends....

There is hope, geeks and nerds of the world.

Once, I too was hung up on strange shaped dice and to hit tables, science fiction and fantasy....I sank to the bottom, reenacting English Civil War battles with the clothes, musket and sword, watching Star Wars over and over until I could have played any part in the film...... for goodness sakes I even wrote my own science fiction, and was excited at the prospect of the Judge Dredd movie.

It is possible to recover. I did, and just look at me now - now, I'm cool!

You have to make a decision, right here, right now. All these RPGs and so on have taken over your life, and it will only get worse. If you dont break this habit, then you will one day find yourself with a large beard, thick glasses and bad breath, no longer able to converse with ordinary people, and working on a helpdesk. Is this what you wanted for your life?

Its not easy, escaping the cycle of Star Gate Atlantis and World of Warcraft. It takes courage and determination. But it can be done. So, how can you, like me, be freed?

The answer is simple. It was staring me in the face all the while, but caught up in dice rolls and damage tables even I couldnt see it at first. Then, one day, a stranger, much like I am to you, handed me a small packet that changed my life and got me on the path to being cool.

Yes my friends, Marlboro is the answer. Dont worry about the coughing and spluttering when you start, or the sick feeling; these are natural - you have a lot of that sci-fi and fantasy stuff clogging up your system and it has to come out of you, its all part of the programme. Keep at it, stay strong, light up another. Before long, you'll find your system is being purged of geekiness and within a month or so, even the worst forms of nerdiness will begin to vanish. Any time you feel the need to watch Star Trek, take another cigarette - dont give in to the temptation, and within a year you will be clean. I promise. And within eighteen months, you'll start to become cool.  Honestly.

The best looking boys are taken, the best looking girls are staying inside.

Sadly my geekdom seems to be steadily declining.  That or everyone here is a geek and the geeky things I love seem to be so ... less geeky.  (The turning point may be when my father tried to give me star trek lessons, saying I'd "never achieve true geekdom until I liked either Star Trek or Dragon Ball Z.")

...I have a life too...actually, I'm a gamer so I have many lives, but it's not the same thing:P

i love this!!! i almost lost my coffee on the keyboard!

i am not how geeky i would be considered but i love documentaries, biographies, history channel and Sudoku.

on the computer i play Majhong...

fantasy wise - i am into scifi; mystical and ethereal stuff like Lord of the Rings, but i don't do role-playing things so i guess i am a passive geek?

as far as computer skills and technical shit - i have often surprised myself at some of the things i can accomplish...but that may be my determination to succeed and not admit failure till the last possible moment!

I was a teen in the eighties and mighty geeky, I played D&D (we had a lunch hour club as well at Junior High) LARP of Masquerade I was goth before it was fashionable (my parents were called whent he teacher saw the ring in my nose) and I would race home to watch the After School Special on CBS. Not to mention Startrek and MASH.    I did have some cool moment in the Drama club and to this day I still take fencing (not so much in the last year)    Ermm my husband and I make it a point to go to the  midnight releasese of the Harry Potter books (we don't have kids) I dressed up for the last two.... Moaning Myrtle and Prof. Snape. I have to say tho there were more adults there than kids
