What bugs me more than people who are doing it, is people who are getting it wrong- it shouldn't be "this girl thanks her master", it should be "the girl thanks it's master"- the point is depersonalisation.

topcat, maybe you were tired when you posted, but you did not get the grammar right either.

I wonder if they killed off the other 124 duplicates to become the one.

obey1 -> RE: Slaves referring to themselves as "this one" (2/14/2007 10:36:33 PM)

In my experience I have not encountered alot of people that use terminology because they have to and they are awkward about it.

A kajira is "this one".  She knows she is kajira.  "this one bows"
A girl may write "the girl".  She has reached that understanding. "the girl bows"

Grammatically there are disconnects.  "this girl" does not meet the standard.  It is colloquial.  "this girl bows"

Most of what you are seeing comes from IRC leftovers.

Who cares?  Does that make you high and mighty or something, cause you spotted bad grammar?  Big fuckin deal.

Obsidiansnamaste -> RE: Slaves referring to themselves as "this one" (2/15/2007 5:15:01 AM)

i can not speak for why other slaves do it. i am directed to speak in "slave speech" or third person by my Owner, with Him ONLY.

For me, internally, i find it especially useful in remembering my place in reference to Him. It leands an air of deference to my speech that pleases Him and keeps me focused.

M. Obey1-

How so? I thought ' it's ' was the proper impersonal pronoun- did I get the apostrophe wrong?

I've seen on other sites that deal more with just Masters and slaves where both spectrums often refer to the slave as "it". It does exactly what it is intended to do..make that slave a piece of property. I could much more readily respond in this manner as in: it thanks you Master versus doing "puppy training" where your only voice is a bark, whimper or growl.

It is often from what I have seen a mere case of just how deep do you really want to go, and what needs to be implemented in order to get there.

Master0fMARs -> RE: Slaves referring to themselves as "this one" (2/15/2007 6:10:43 AM)

The 1st ever I encountered reference to one's self in the 3'd person, was in the Gurdjeivian related books by Ouspensky, Nichol, and others.  The object there was to help the individual remember one's self, where by shedding the poly-personality confusion of those who are not awakened.  The function of this for the slave to Me is the same, he/she is reminded of their status, and one could hope perhaps shed of the trappings of the world until achieving a higher state of development as a human.  Austerity and simple living, sexual tantra, are all tools of a developing being.  If we as a civilization can ever hope to escape the dilemma of our existence, live harmoniously, development into more complex beings is the only hope W/we have.  For Me this reference is refreshing and completely acceptable.

viperess -> RE: Slaves referring to themselves as "this one" (2/15/2007 6:30:46 AM)

Greetings,
Thank You MasterOfMARs as i could not remember which books 3rd person speach i had been shown about it a few years back. i knew i had in the Books of Gor but was not sure where else. So many seem to think it is more an online thing but i was first introduced to speak that way about 23 years ago and had not used a computer at that time. i understand why it is done and can not really understand why other slaves complain about it when they see others use it as most only do so because it is the wish of their Master. i only now have to if we are at a formal gathering because otherwise it drives my Master crazy...then again..no i will be good today.
Respectfully

Now see, this makes sense to me.

But what i've always wondered (and this is asked of anybody who uses it on here)....how do you speak in public?  i mean, at work, you surely don't refer to yourself that way to your boss or colleagues, etc....or do you?  Or when you call someone on the phone...do you say "Hi, it's this one" (or this girl, whatever)?  Or how about just in general dialogue?

And if not, do you feel it detracts at all from your identity as a slave not to do so?  Always wondered about this.

For me..this pretty much is the goal of my path. Think someone else to mentioned earlier it was a way to move away from society, and this world the way it is. Choosing that commitment of becoming a Owned slave was the start down this road. At present the need for the 3rd person or objectivity tools hasn't been required to keep me advancing or remain focussed on Master 1st and foremost always. At some point it may.

Thankyou for providing this

Well Wishes

It helps me to think of all words with an apostrophe as a contraction.  So I mentally will say the words separate to see if it fits so "it's = it is"

I've not known someone to use that speech in all contexts.  However, as I said in my OR- I've occasionally used third person speech for as long as I can recall.  It wasn't until I got into the "corporate world" that people started to consider me weird for it.

As an everyday constant thing, specially if the slave was a mother, I can see how it would be awkward at times.  But again, if the slave is good with it, graceful, I think it could be managed fairly well.

there have been a few isolated occasions that Master has deemed the use of third person speech inappropriate. e.g. business dinners that were casual enough to include "spouses and significant others" and get togethers with certain relatives that are unaware of our M/s relationship. other than that it is expected at all times, private or public.

this slave does not have an employer to answer to, a PTA meeting to attend, nor does she spend much time on the phone talking about herself with folks who are unaware of her relationship.

example:
"Hello, Maid Service."
"Hi, this is Mrs. Merc(or beth)"
"How can we help you, today?"
instead of
"I need the maids to come on Wednesday instead of Thursday this week"
this slave would say
"Would it be possible for the maids to come Wednesday instead of Thursday this week?"

employing third person speech as a tool does not necessarily mean just replacing all of the "I"'s in your sentences with a replacement of "this one" or "this girl" or "this slave".  it certainly hasn't been from at least one perspective.

one of the long-term effects of employing this for almost 4 years has been an increase in LISTENING to others and talking about others and a decrease of talk that is focused on this slave which has lead to a decrease of thoughts focused solely on this slave.

...I usually don't read the posts that are written like that except for a select few that I am convinced are not just living in some weird fantasy land. Merc and beth would be in that group...Orig:LaTigresse

thank you for your kind words!!!

Sorry LA, I couldn't resist that tiny bit of *leg-pulling*.......It's two words here......lol

There are some other expressions that we don't use in the UK that sound curious, too.....one is, *It was so fun* .....We'd say *It was so much fun* or *It was fun*. Also the worder *funner* ..........we'd say *funnier*

Apologies for the hideous hijack OP.
