Couldn't one say the same thing about Christianity or Judaism?

Y'know, Sinergy, I've bitten my tongue several times in this thread to keep it civil.  Did you miss the part where I mentioned a 60% pay cut?  I'm not informed enough to be over in the Unions thread but I can spot trends.  Almost all the guys I was working with when it hit us lost those nice cars they driving, a couple wound up bankrupt.  Change is inevitable.  Replacing ya'll would cause some disruptions, but after a couple months, a chimp can carry luggage.

Actually I had to sit and seethe as I heard all manner of inappropriate discourse in anthropology courses that were open to all majors... just because one is getting an advanced degree does not mean one is intelligent, knowledgeable, and not racist.

Many of my classes were just us anthro folk, and I did not agree with all of them, but none of them were racist.

I have had professors that were right wing (not in anthro, we are all a bunch of Marxists.. ha ha). And I respected their classes, was allowed to state my opinions, and earned my As and their respect.

When you get to ANT-430 Human Morphology, you sorta understand what it all means about being the same under the skin, where at best, "racial categories" only broadly describe a statistical sample of bone measurements. I am not overly interested in debating your ability to keep it civil.  When I have made a cogent point you have attacked juliaoceania's position.

Whatever.  She is a big girl.  Intelligent.  With a wonderful education and experience in debating her opinion.

True, a chimp can carry luggage.

I make 300 dollars with taxes carrying luggage and take home 400 dollars in tips for one days work.

On the other hand, the CEO of Walmart, a renowned union basher, earned 10,000 times more than the average employee of Walmart last year.

Your posts make it seem like you think the CEO of Walmart deserves to earn 34 million dollars a year, while the single mother working the cash register to sell stuff made in China to undercut US jobs, applying for federal aid and medicaid, deserves to only make as much as Walmart is willing to pay her.

I find it hilarious that Walmart wanted to purchase American President Lines and it was stopped in court because the courts ruled it was not in the best interest of the United States economy because Walmart went into the negotiations stating up front that they would not allow union workers.  This would cripple the US economy.

I personally see the gross inequity here, and while I accept the fact that you are entitled to your opinion, I personally find myself astonished the life can exist in a mind that small.

Peace, out.

One could say the same about any religion.  Then again, you didn't prompt discussion about any of the others. But if you really want to be PC about it all, take a few days in Quaker country, a few days in Israel, then walk down the streets in Iraq, Syria, Iran - pick one. Hell, go to Saudi - at least they pretend to like us. Tell me where you least feel the brotherly love.

Kind of like people who deny humanity's impact on the environment. Invite them to any major city in America to drink from the river water for a few months. Tell them you'll discuss environmental impacts with them when it's over provided they're still alive.

. . . a few days in northern Ireland (though it seems to have calmed down lately) or at an abortion clinic that's being picketed . . .

If I ever go steady at a company, it will probably be APL.

I like working there.

Just me, probably wrong, but there you go.

Jesus H. Christ, Sinergy, and you talk about me reading into things...  Maybe drink some water, deep breaths or take a walk?  Aren't those the platitudes you were spouting a bit earlier for dealing with that adrenal response?  Or are all those tidbits of how one should conduct oneself just for people you want to belittle?  There is a word for that you know.

final thought... speaking from experience with a Muslim in my life that I love...

You got called names last night? Really? Well, calling a Muslim a terrorist simply because he is Muslim is the worst kind of name you could call him.

Pick anything from your background that they could use a slam against and use it against yourself, now, x's that by 100... that's how it feels to be an immigrant from a Muslim country who is now an American citizen, who lost a friend who worked in the Twin Towers of New York, to be called a "terrorist"

I'm Irish... call me a drunk, whatever, it hurts because of my family, but not even close.

I'm Catholic... can come up with all kinds of ones there, but, I won't

The list goes on...

Just my 2 cents.

Certainly an erudite and cogent response to my asking you for empirical information to support your opinion.

Enjoy your naptime.

This is a great thread. Not only do we have a list of things we can't talk about without it turning into flames ... we can't even talk about why we can't talk about them, without it turning into flames.

Enlightened self-interest here. Next time the wheel turns, I'm coming back as a bonobo ( If we don't fucking exterminate them first... ) so I'm interested in that branch back about 5-3 million years ago where the pan split from the homo and things got cooking.

I'm pretty sure we took the wrong branch.

I have posted what Peyton Quinn wrote before, to whit "Either you are in control of yourself, or somebody else is."

A person who allows themselves to be drawn into these sorts of conflicts is allowing the other person to have control of their emotional space.

The problem, WyrdRich, is that too many people wear their hearts and emotions and opinions as a chip on their shoulders, and go through life waiting for somebody to knock it off.
Just me, etc.

Good topic though.

Thanks for the reply, Zensee.  Hehehehe, a lot of Keith's work is a bit scattered.  My guess would be that he wanted topics far ranging enough to ensure that everybody would get a reaction to at least one of them.  In the early '90's, suggesting that AIDS had been cooked up in a military lab got the same kind of response from the "good Americans" that the claims of 9/11 as an inside job gets today.
