Pink would never work for me! Nor would the browns and all that. Brown of any sort does not look good on me - regardless whether it's clothes, shoes or nail polish. I wear a LOT of red. I have red hair. I wear red lipstick. Pink would clash. But I do try to be spontaneous and carefree regarding my choices in nail polish colors (sorry, no black and purple, that's a bit TOO carefree and spontaneous to me - not to mention that it hits about a 10 in my "omg that's so ugly - go wash that ink off your hands!!" scoreboard) So, in the interests of spontaneity and such, I wear "I'm not really a waitress red" by OPI. Sometimes I change it up by choosing "Peruby Ruby" by OPI, and every now and then, I wear "Red Ribbons" by OPI. If I'm not wearing any of those, I have my nails done in a french manicure. Oh yea, I should say that my spontaneity follows the lines of the seasons. I'm not really a waitress in the fall and winter, Peruby Ruby in the spring and summer, and Red Ribbons just cause I want something "different." The french..well, that's for when I'm a bit tired of the red - doesn't happen very often. The difference between gaudy, trashy and just plain nice though is the length and shape of the nails, and shape is largely an age thing. Most young women end up squaring off their nails. We're talking very young women. Some older women do as well, but I find that more often than not, those who are a bit older tend to steer clear of very long nails (we have lives that include doing the wash, and long nails break easily when lifting jeans out of the washer) and they steer clear of the squared off versions of nail styles. Mine are of medium length. They do extend past the tips of my fingers but not so much as to be a hinderance when doing household chores. They are oval shaped. Oval is a difficult shape to achieve, so most nail techs hate doing those. I've been going to my nail person now for 8 years. I am more her friend these days than I am her client. My nails are as real as I can pay for. Even so, I receive many compliments on my nails and am asked often how I get them to grow so nicely. So, I'd say they look natural. Besides... red nails on fair skin, wrapped around darker skin is just plain breathtaking to me. I like the color combinations. All those paler colors just wouldn't be so pretty. juliet
