My apologies-
I first heard it from my Grandfather, who was from Knock.

No problem, that's Northern Ireland and the modern celts are generally good at sharing with other celts. So I'm never one to knock Knock.

Who's there?

I don't know where you live (didn't check) but kilts have been "all the rage" in the northeast for at least a couple of years now. There is one brand in particular called Utilikilt that are popular. I really don't know what it is because I see doms and ONLY doms wearing them. I think it might be a socially acceptable way for a dominant male to wear a skirt. But maybe I will be enlightened through reading the other responses.

edited to correct my own typos and spelling. I'm so ocd about these things.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to say I think Captain Tight Pants looks better in tight pants.

It's a trend- just like any fashion trend.

It's also can be a good look for fat people versus regular pants.

And kinky people tend to want to wear things which "distinguish" them from everyone else.

And there's a lot of sci-fi/fantasy/renn faire/bdsm crossover and kilts are quite trendy and proflic in each of those cultures.

I am over 50% Scot, and there were members of my family that would only wear the tartan at family reunions, along with a few that learned the bagpipes.... I think some of them would be offended that the tartan and the kilt had become fashion statements, and others would just be amused.

I am a little dismayed at it myself- but it's like whitekids with dredlocks- not matter how you explain it, some people are never going to understand the wrong-headed cultural imperialism of their ethnic strip-mining.

I can't really imagine FirmHandKY in a kilt, but I've never seen a man who didn't look hot in one.  As for why they might be popular with doms, I always hoped it was for ease of access...

Ahem... figured.  I meant, I always figured it was for ease of access.

A lot of people wear kilts. Utilikilt is a huge seller when they go to events. Theirs are made out of the same material as Dockers. They also have a leather kilt *swoon*

I have a very good friend who is a Dominant man and he wears a kilt often. He happens to be Scottish and therefore he will wear real kilts at times and at times he will wear the Utili-Kilts. Utili-Kilts are premade, no wrapping involved, often having buttons or zippers instead of the traditional 7 to 9 yards of material wrapped around and held in place with the traditional type belt.

My friend has been wearing his Kilts for something like 20 years. With the advent of the Utili-Kilt which is less costly and easier to wear, more and more men are wearing them. I personally believe that there are two reasons for this.
First: the response they get from the ladies.
Second: it is a recent fad.

I personally love watching a man in a kilt, though I have to say that those Buchanan kilts with the blaring yellow and black plaid is a little hard to watch. But as I have told my friend before the fad began and he was getting guff from others as to what he "should as a dominant" be wearing... It isn't what you wear that makes you dominant, it is Who you are and How you behave. A dominant will be a dominant weather wearing leather pants, a kilt, a tu-tu, chaps, a dress, a school girl outfit, or nothing at all.

Just my opinion,
Czarli

I am Scottish on my paternal grandmother's side.  The Tartan I wear and I share a last name.

Since I have no immediate plans to take over the leadership of that clan, I suppose nobody is really going to care.

Sinergy

p.s.  On a related note, I am going to get a kilt of her tartan.  Just because.  Screw sexist patriarchal customs from people who play bagpipes and throw trees.

Utilikilt is all the rage in the Alternative/Gothic/Fetish sub-culture
in California.  Men wear the cloths ones when the weather is warm;
the open access provdes better air circulation and less sweating,
so I am told.  Many of the BRC Rangers wear khaki colored kilts
at Burning Man.  For fetish events, you will often find men in
the black leather Utilitikilt.  As far as personal asthetic goes,
if the fellow has nicely toned legs it is all good, just wear a pair
of appropriately matching  footwear for the occasion.

~Fast Reply~

I love a man in a kilt! I want to buy Valyraen one but I'm not sure he would wear it. He thinks they are too drafty...

So I am at the Lair.  And this Domme sitting next to me asks that question.

I say "You are welcome to check."

She does.

You will have to ask her.

Domina- I can offer no argument to you on that regard, except to say that naked is better :)

Re: cultural arrangements, I'm sure there are a few real world slaves in the world who find it as best amusing and at worst horrific the way we bandy about our own fun collars.  We've all got our "thing" that we feel cherished and close to and hate to see it "lost in the crowd."

As sexy as I think Vin is, he just doesn't have the moxy to carry off the kilt.  His look just says, "Umm, OK, I'm standing here in a DRESS?"  **sigh**

A guy has to have an awful lot of balls to make a kilt look good!  But damn, it's worth it when they can!
