Status: offline 		I personaly think this is frigan awsome! I've worn a kilt many times at ren faires and such but those are made of wool.( and quite hot I might add). These are great!Im going to have to get several.I dont think its because im a dom that I want one, mostly its because I dont give a tinkers damn what other poeple think!Oh and I worked with a scotsman of 3 years and he was quite miffed at the fact that we use thier tartans(or as we call it plaid).He belived the manufactures should have to pay the clan a royalty.Ah for f**ks sake

Status: offline 		I was introduced to this thread by my sub, Barefootgal - I guess she knows I'll have opinions!

As a Scot, I wear the kilt, as she mentioned, at occasions formal or not so much. I don't wear it to show off (although the comments are nice!), or to say "look at me, look at me", just as a respectful nod to my culture.

I can't speak for all Scots, but most don't give a crap about the utilikilt being any kind of cultural hi-jacking. The utilikilt has as little to do with the ancient tradition as tartan bondage pants did on Sid Vicious. I find those that mind about "sacrilege" tend to be ex-pats and generations removed from the old sod.

The same types that blather on about tradition and then wear ridiculous animal head sporrans that no actual Scot would be seen dead in!

As long as it's worn at the correct length (not like a catholic schoolgirl!) and you have at least a little meat on your bones, most guys look good in a kilt, I find.

Someone mentioned drafts and being cold. I can honestly say that I have never been cold wearing a kilt - quite the opposite in fact. It's a dilemma some days about how to tackle the sweat running down the thighs!

I loved the line from Alan Cumming when he was on a late nite chat show and asked what was worn under his kilt. His reply?

"A cock ring"!

Things kilts are not great for- Rock climbing.

Hey, maybe Mal just got tired of the tight pants. Its hard being Captain, you know.
the topic is doms in kilts.... Mr Fillion is in a kilt.. therefore, its implied hes a dom.. will have to go re-watch him interacting with Inara..

OK, that's the first time I've seen a leather kilt not look a tad silly, which says a lot about vin because that's not a very well styled kilt. It's too shiny and no pleats in front but stil looks good. I think it's the right kilt length, the right length socks, the shirt, and of course the physique.

Status: offline 		The thought of my partner in a kilt is delicious. Easy access for my hands, not to mention he could bend me over and have his way without any time taken to unbuckle and drop trou - and no worries about the absurdity of pants around ankles and bare ass out to the world.

Kilts are just so practical. At the right party, what could be more delicious than seeing a sub's backside protruding from a man's kilt, her head out of sight under the kilt, and his expression of delight! Kilts just make lots of sense to me, for a Dom. Yum!

Status: offline 		IMO it's not a kilt if it wasn't laid out and rolled on. The best looking kilts are the ones that have 9 yards of wool that have to be carefully gathered before they are put on, whether it's the male version or the female one.

Status: offline 		It's the whole Manly thing about a Kilt ,, I have had mine for over 10 years now and i love it ,, and well i think the "ladies" enjoy it as well.. ya get the feeling of power adn pride ,, cuz REAL MEN WEAR KILTS,, oh yeah if anything was worn under it it would be a skirt and not a kilt,, but as for me nothing is worn under mine,, everyhing works just fine,,

Status: offline 		I wear a kilt as well.  Historically the kilt was only worn by the Highland Men, women were not allowed to wear them.  The Head of the Clan was absolute in his rule, he could hang anyone who he felt had offended him, is word was law.  So yes a kilt could be symbolic of a Male Dom.  Also I notied that the type of kilt other than the utilkilt was mentioned.  I wear the "Great Kilt" (Feileadh Mor) in other words the Whole nine yards.  Many wear the "Wee kilt" (Feile Beag) it is much like the utilkilt.

Status: offline 		Clan Tartan came into use around the 17th Century.  Many Scots were employed in the English Army..they were seperated into Regiments each having a different weave pattern.  Currently only the Black Watch is the only kilt wearing Regiment of the English Army.  Scotish women of a Clan wore a Serapes a sort of scraf with the Clans Tartan on it.
If anyone is interested here is a link to a very good Scottish clothing site.  I have used them.

Some very good points, and always a delight to have interest in my homeland. However, some corrections need to be made (if anyone still cares at this point!).

There is no "English Army", nor has there been since the 18th century - it is the British Army and contains Scots, Welsh, English and Northern Irish.

In 2006 there was a merger of all seven Scottish batallions, including the Black Watch, in into one Scottish Regiment, the Royal Regiment of Scotland. All wear the kilt for ceremonial and regimental occasions, although not in battle conditions!

The tartan worn is called Government Tartan, and since the Black Watch was the regiment which was most closely associated with it, it became known as Black Watch Tartan.

And, yes, ladies, even soldiers wear nothing underneath - as you can see from this picture...

Status: offline 		my Master wears a kilt, and looks HOT in it. There are about a dozen who wear them to the club and events here in DC all the time. Most look pretty hot and sexy in them. (one wears it way to short and looks a little silly in it). 

we are Irish and Scottish and so it also feel natural, we attend Highland games and the SCA our personas are Scottish so it all fits for us.

Mostly they are comfortable and sexy as all get out.

Sir has both a formal black leather kilt and also a wool tartan (colored) kilt.
