Just wondering here...

If you go into the kitchen and make yourself a sandwich...do you

eat the sandwich and then clean up and put away
or
put everything away, clean up and then eat the sandwich..

I clean up and put away, and then eat the sandwich (I am just so cruel to myself, sometimes!).
It's probably because I am an oldest child, too, hehe...

Actuallly, I think it's because I was raised by an extreme neat-nik of a mother (which isn't altogether a bad thing, really, in retrospect anyway).

P.S. I was presuming a sandwich with cold-cuts or things that didn't need cooking.

In my house...

if it is a 'middle of the day' (or night), "snack" clean up first.

If we are all eating...say lunch, clean up is after.

I eat hot sandwiches (and most hot meals) immediately.  I put things away with cold meals.

As a cook, I learned to put things away, rinse, and wash the items I use, as I am cooking.  While the pasta is cooking, I am scrubbing the food processor.  When the pasta is finished, I give the bowl a quick rinse (while the pasta is being rinsed) and a wipe down with a sponge and put it away (it's sanitary, considering the water's been boiling in it for a great deal of time.)

The busier you are in the kitchen, cleaning, as you cook, the more time you have to relax after you eat.  I also rinse dishes as soon as I finish eating, to make the ultimate clean up far less taxing.

Stephan

I'm pretty much the same way as Stephann.

Hot means i eat first, then clean up. Cold meals i clean up, then eat.

And i almost always wash the dishes as i'm making whatever it is i'm making. Makes for a much more stress free meal.

I eat the sandwich from my hands to save using a plate, if there is any other 'mess' in all honesty it sits there until I get around to it.
I've learnt to prioritize my energy & dishes have fallen to the bottom. There is guilt yeah but I'm beginning to be okay with a messy house.

I usually put the mayonnaise and pickles away, since they need refrigerated.  Then, eat the sandwich, and come back, put the peanut butter away, throw the knife and plate into the sink

The kitchen is for cooking? Go figure !! I always thought it was just an extra room to shag in.

OMG I am such a slob!

I just clean the mess when I feel like it. Short of spoiling the food anyway. I am okay with a few dishes in the sink.

I'm ok with a few in the sink as well.
I'm also all for paper towels, plates, cups and plasticware. Anything that needs to be refridgerated goes back in the fridge before I eat though.

I usually clean up as I go along.  I really detest the emotional letdown of cleaning up after a nice meal.
