It looks like you're confusing social policy with socialism. Just because one of your politicians wants to provide universal health care, it doesn't make him/her a socialist i.e. universal health care is a social policy that can be (and is) ran in capitalist nations.

Socialism is an economic form of government where the state takes control of the nation's economic production capacity (including private property). More importantly, the working classes become the state i.e. they control the nations economic capacity, with the aim being to smash the last vestiges of class structure and lay the foundations for communism (where the state is ultimately rendered unnecessary as class structure has been smashed and everyone lives in utopian bliss). It's fair to say neither John Kerry or Hilary Clinton have a desire to dismantle private property and put it in the hands of a new working class government paving the way towards communism.

Edited for spelling.

I know quite well what the definition of a socialist government is, but thanks for posting it anyway, my opinion of Hillary and John stands.

Theres nothing they would like better than to have everyone relying on the government to survive.

There's no more SOCIALIST act in recent memory than the Bush Administrations destruction of local control of local schools via the "No Child Gets Ahead" act they fought so hard for.

I never thought Bush was dangerous, just kind of incompetent, until I started to see just how dangerous "incompetent" can really be. I would vote for Representative Chuck Hagel for President, if the election was today. He is from my home state of Nebraska, and although a Republican, he is a lot more liberal than he appears at first glance (really). He is what I would call a Centrist, and pretty reasonable, and has great judgment, IMO.

He has also actually fought in a war. If our policy is going to continue to be such war-mongers (hopefully not), I think there should at least be someone in office who has "really been there", and Hagel knows what its really like to be in a fox hole and have bullets flying all around you. Which is why I think he would not be a war monger. I wish it was already 2008 and I could vote, but I guess I'll just have to wait it out. Hagel probably won't make it past the primary election and to the general election, but you never can tell what will happen...

The best thing about American culture, is that you would never see a bunch of Americans on a message board, trashing British culture to a bunch of Brits, etc ...

Then again, we have Dick Cheney, who trashes everyone ... so I guess that makes us even.

Some Eurotrash for you but don't ask me about British culture, I don't have a clue, rehashed guitar bands, sensationalist (really boring actually) visual art, soap box films, trite novels but there is the most fuckable Anna Blundy who makes up for all the other rubbish and comedy. Britain has the best comedy in the world and just about everyone buys it (Hmm, maybe not the US but what the hell).

Susan, that's one ace Chuck Hagel has in the hole, he's a veteran.
That's always good on the resume!
Now, where does he stand on the issues?
For me, if a candidate won't defend our borders and strictly enforce our immigration laws I won't even consider them.
I kind of like Mitt Romney but he doesn't have any military service so that's a problem.
Then there's James Gilchrist in the Constitution Party who started The Minutemen and was in the Marine Corps in Vietnam.
I like him too.
When I look at the polls I'm surprised at how poorly Mc Cain is doing. He's comming in 6th, or 7th in a lot of them.
But, he voted for that Kennedy/ Mc Cain amnesty bill last year and a lot of people are pissed at him for that!
All politicians should stay away from anything that Ted Kennedy is involved in!

A lot of people consider McCain to be a RINO, and it doesn't suprise me to see him trailing by such a large percentage.

He lost me with McCain/Feingold, not to mention his age is also a concern for many.

You are welcome to your opinion of Hilary and John.

However, calling them socialist does not make them such.

It would be like expecting a Pinto to fly because you call it an airplane.
