I understand that a spokesperson is a person who speaks on behalf of others, and not necessarily a part of the cause. I want someone who is passionate about the cause, and has been passionate. Not someone that jumps on a cause to suit his own personal agenda. That is what see Al Gore doing.
That is just my opinion.

Your right, it is your opinion. Its sad you would form an opinion before doing any research. Its quite clear you have done no research because your opinion is completely incorrect.

Such a sad species we are.

In the research that I did, I did not notice that. Sorry.
Thanks for pointing it out so kindly!

Question: If he has been an environmental activist for 3 decades, why hadn't he made changes until just recently?

Is he really passionate about helping the world change or is he in it for fame (which it looks like to me)?
I would really like to know.
~poe

This is not about fame. I think it is kind of shamefull that you would think someone trying to inform people about the state of our planet is truly only seeking fame. For many years he has been involved in environmental issues.

"According to a 27 February 2007 article in The Concord Monitor, "Gore was one of the first politicians to grasp the seriousness of climate change and to call for a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouses gases. He held the first congressional hearings on the subject in the late 1970s.""

What a sad shame it is that the 'liberal elite' think they are so much smarter than anyone who doesn't agree that they simply include links to Wiki definitions of dates and a description of a magazine, rather than some sort of hard evidence.

But then, what do expect from people who think Gore is more than a whore.

Much as I hate to state the obvious, an opinion can never be incorrect in itself, an opion is persons own thoughts on a subject, they maybe unfounded but they cannot be incorrect

The first two defintions of opinion from dictionary.com

1.
a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.

2.
a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.

An opinion needs no research at all, something you would know if you had researched what an opinion actually is!

And the worst thing they could have done was to get that "U.N." involved in it.

An example is the fact that as the Canadian government found out from a recent study by their climatoligists, polar bears are in fact increasing in numbers. Not dying off as Al Gore and other nuts would have you believe.

That's interesting, and I'd like to read more. What's your source please?

That's a good question, Poe, but I think it's important to bear in mind that we don't know, at least based on the thread, what eco-changes he's made in his life. All we know is a little about his electricity usage.

As well, what about Bush's "Beyond Kyoto" ecological initatives to reduce carbon usages? Bet ya ain't even heard of those, have you?

Did some quick Googling and learned that the agreement is called the Asia-Pacific Partnership for Clean Development and Climate.

Also found an interesting quote from John McCain, who's hardly a liberal Bush-basher: "The [Asia-Pacific] pact amounts to nothing more than a nice little public-relations ploy. It has almost no meaning. They aren't even committing money to the effort, much less enacting rules to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions." (Source: Muckraker)

Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate

Fact Sheet

While it doesn't have mandatory emission requirments like the Kyoto treaty, it is a plan and forum to work within a voluntary, free-enterprises framework to reduce carbon emissions.

Some thoughts:

1.  McCain isn't exactly a Bush friend either, and talking trash about it gives him brownie points with the more "green" oriented members of the voting population, with little downside from the other side.  A political "cheap shot" in other words.

2.  Kyoto is both ineffective and basically a dead issue.  Something is better than nothing, isn't it?

3.  The Partnership is designed to work within the framework of national interests, and international abilities, in a free-market approach.  Such an approach is much more likely to work in the long run than Kyoto - which only has the appearance of "teeth" without the reality.

In other words, I think the Partnership has a higher likelihood of actually doing something, vice Kyoto.

I have no idea of the impact that we have as it pertains to "global warming"....But to suggest that we cannot have an impact on the climate just seems to be a little short sighted...We dump our crap in the ocean....a seemingly infinite space and now there are advisories not  to eat tuna...I realize that these two topics are not quite directly related...but again it might not be directly affecting our clmate but it will defintely take its toll on all things that live on this planet., and it will not be something that will be considered as having a  positive affect.
