How about "first you work for your reputation, then your reputation works for you"? It appears to me that in most "underground" "scenes"/"worlds" reputation is crucial to make contacts - if you are well known it'll be easier to approach people, and people may even approach you, because there will be a presumption of trust. I thnk it is important to make contacts, even contacts that may not be what you are looking for directly, to receive opportunities, which I would expect to become more valuable over time. I think the value of a contact is often determined by the value of their respective contacts, and the distribution of contacts makes up the entire "scene". For example, I think I'm just busting in here with 0 relevant contacts in this "scene", I think a technical term for this is "no one from nowhere". I think some ways to earn a reputation are: attending meetings/"munches"/conferences/fairs/etc - getting face time, very effective posting on forums* - as you can see, the forum measures an aspect of your reputation on the left here. For example, I think mine is "vanilla". I like "vanilla", it's a tasty ice-cream flavor. *in some "scenes" IRC is a great way to earn a reputation, but probably not here conversations on personal chat and instant messenger - this essentially means making a contact. I think after several successful conversations, the parties will have sized each other up, and filed each other as contacts, otherwise you have to try again with some one else. I think there is a limited amount of people in each area, so you have to be careful. meeting for activites - I think that's what most of you want taking pictures - this is a great way to earn a reputation for attractive women. I think women like to look at pictures of attractive women, and men like to look at pictures of attractive women. I think a hot picture here, posted in the profile, will cause a flood of messages from desperate losers. I think that putting up a picture for the purposes of "identification" is for suckers - it may be a "requirement" to talk to someone, but I don't think you'll get much reputation for it. Additionaly, if a woman requires a "picture" to talk to her, I think you need a really cool picture. For men - I think that to have any kind of effective picture in this "scene" you might want to try the following: a picture with an attractive woman, ideally in fetish clothing and/or tight bondage, a picture of you and your cool stuff, like a car, guns, "toys", or some other cool picture. Warning: I think a dick-picture, or "mug-shot", or "guy #97198541 standing upright" means "minus 1000 reputation points instantly, go to hell, do not pass go, do not collect any respect". I think this is true even for "exceptional male specimens", so photos are mostly for women. I think that if you take a picture with a woman you are in the clear though. What's better than one attractive woman in the photo? I think two attractive women. What's better than two attractive in the photo? ... taking pictures of "activities" - I think this is ultimate reputation builder, like instant proof you are legit knowing the "culture" - I think that most "underground societies" have a "culture", and if you can talk about it, many "members" will give you "respect points". I think "respect points" can be redeemed for building up the contact. contacting the "high-rollers" - I think in "underground societes" there are "sharks" lurking around, sometimes they stand out, sometimes they blend in, and they often have done all the things I listed above, and often play a crucial role in the "scene". I think often they even make money off the scene, in various ways. In a "scene" like this, I would expect the "high-rollers" to be the admins here, the owners of the site, the "pro-hos", the "original equipment manufacturers" and other people with valuable skills, organizers of various events, owners of "dungeons", etc. You haven't done any of the above and you wonder why you can't meet any one? Perhaps now you have a clue. But, please, consider this, do you really want to get involved? I think that if you are still not in it, let me warn you, you are very close to being in hell. I think you already knew this, I'm just working for my reputation, hehe. Please consider if you really want a reputation in this "scene", or maybe you should just walk away while you can. I think "alternative lifestyle" people are pretty easy to spot. I think this stuff rubs off on you, so don't be surprised if people talk about "it" around you.
