Nice post Lady E. A wonderful insight and gives a slightly different insight from the way many of us Pagans/Wiccans would think!

To borrow (fairly snugly) from The Great Ones...

Nobody hides from the quality control police!

Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless mockery.... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless mockery...and an almost fanatical devotion to John Norman.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again.

The Knights Templar (The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon) were rounded up on Oct 13, 1307 by King Phillip IV (Phillip the Fair) and Pope Clement V.

Fergus, you are dead on. I think anti-Christian pagans are by far more hateful and ignorant than the object of their revulsion.

forgive me ma'am but i think you will find that the concept of Demons are alot older that the Chritian religion, true you have chritian developed Demons in various grimoires but they have been around in many many civilisations alot longer that 2000 years.

 Very true. Heck, the word demon is from greek and the evil possessing entity dates back to the zoroastrian faith if not earlier.

bludemonn -> RE: Heathen/pagan roll call (3/2/2007 2:12:44 PM)

Religion = Belief and therefore flawed terribly because many followers have to work hard to keep faith.

Being a demon we have NO restraint, no master, no goddess no hell, no owner we are eclectic we do because we simply can. Its a matter of physics in a way, many many people follow a belief system because they require a way of life, a book or meaning to follow, i feel people label eachother in order to be a part of something 'secret' or against the grain.

bludemonn -> RE: Heathen/pagan roll call (3/2/2007 2:15:12 PM)

yes the name 'demon' may have origin but the essence behind the word dosent really have a date, it's as far back as time itself, people from different civilisations interpret 'demon' as different, some find them friendly some giave them the tag of 'evil' like the Christians who 'demonised' alot of the pagan gods/goddesses

No forgiveness Blu. What I said was "Demons are Christian inventions, arising from Middle Eastern dualistic ideas", clearly indicating current cultural understanding of the concept and referring to the origin of demon in Middle Eastern dualistic ideas. I would have mentioned Zoraster, but to be fair I thought that those aware of Zorastrianism would take that comment as sufficient reference, whilst such a mention would have been wasted in the absence of a lengthy explanation, to those unaware of that particular religion.

The issue really, the difference between Middle Eastern duality systems where there is good and evil, and the Asatru system in particular, is that we do not ascribe evil as such to those we call Etins, (who would be the comparitive figures in our mythology), but rather ignorance. Equally, our Gods and Goddesses are not good in the sense of doing good deeds at all times - in fact Odin in particular and Freyja also, are known for stirring up trouble, but all for the ultimate good because they act with awareness. Our duality then, could be said to be that between ignorance and awareness, but that gives an entirely different character to Asatru.
